Consider signing your child up for Nashville Baseball Academy. They actually do care about your child's progress and not just your money.

The worst experience of my son's baseball career. The "team" is all about the owner and him getting your money. Stay away - far away.

They are slated to go to Dublin, Ireland in June of 2008 to participate in the Bingham Cup. They are a predominately gay rugby ream, and they are a member of the International Gay Rugby Association. It will be interesting to watch this team as they begin competing more and more, this summer should bring some good matches, so check their calendar.

But that's rugby for you. I know the team would love to have you come out for a game. They've got a home pitch now at Foster Ave. They just went to Dublin for the Bingham Cup and won the Bingham Plate Division. That's quite a large accomplishment, so congratulate them if you see any of the players. Yes, it's a predominantly gay team. Everyone, regardless of age, skill level, or orientation is welcome to come play. They are always looking for new players and will teach you everything you need to know. If you've ever been curious about playing, give it a try. They Grizzlies only had one home game this spring. Hopefully the fall will bring more chances to see them play. Go Griz!

I hadn't been to a roller derby match before, but they provide a pamphlet that explains the rules and objects of the match. I was up to speed and following along in no time! And I had a great time! It was great to watch women playing a sport that showcases their strength and fight. And to see little girls with their parents watching a women's sport was really inspiring. It's quite inexpensive, and there are beers and junk food you expect at sporting events (pretzels and nacho cheese and chips and hot dogs)! A great time overall. I know I'll be back for a match next season!

Now that its at the Municipal Auditorium its even more awesome. Gone are the painful bleachers, replaced with nice comfortable seats. Concession stands that are easy to get to, and a nice big arena for the girls to do their stuff! Its not without its downsides though.. Paying to park is a bummer, since its downtown. Also, having to pay Ticketmaster almost doubles the prices for a game. The solution to the ticket price is to buy at the box office or from one of the vendors (like Ben and Jerry's) that sell tickets before the game. When the games were at the fairgrounds, sell outs were possible. At Municipal I'm not sure how likely it is. Keep in mind though, it IS quite popular and there is usually a pretty decent turnout. The volume level is quite high, equal to a rock concert in my opinion so if you have sensitive ears, earplugs are recommended. Highly recommended!

The Nashville Kangaroos have a national reputation in the United States Australian Football League as a team that plays "hard but clean." Australian football is played without pads or helmets, but there are several basic rules for player safety. The Nashville Kangaroos take pride in playing by these rules - for example, avoiding tackles above the shoulders. Want to watch? Ask, and someone will explain the game. Their home fields are at Elmington Park at 3500 West End Ave. You can see their games here during the season at Elmington Park when they host out of town teams for competition. The game Footy is some kind of hybrid between American Football, Soccer, and Rugby. The way the do the scoring is related to soccer, and football with a certain number of points assigned based on whether the ball is kicked over a goal post or whether it is carried across the line. I don't completely understand the rules yet, but it is a lot of fun to watch. The game is very fast paced, and I really like the way the do the scoring for the game. Each goal has a score keeper and the score keeper has two flags. Based on the score the flag bearer does some choreographed moves to indicate the score. He wears a white coat and hat and waves the flags in a very formal way. It is enough fun for me just to go and watch the flags wave. Also, the men that seem to gravitate to this sport are quiet buff. So if nothing else you can get the girlfriends together to watch some fit men run around. They aren't wearing any heavy padding to obscure your view. Watching Footy is a nice way to spend a summer afternoon, you can get some sunshine and culture all in one fell swoop.

3.5 This is a hard…read morepark to review. Please don't allow the star rating to deter you from coming here, if you have reason to do so. I think my issue lies in the difference between my reasons for going to parks and the reason why Una Park exists... if such a thing makes sense. You don't come here by accident. By both location and function, there are only specific reasons to venture here. I have no idea what neighborhood this is. I want to say the park is outside of Nashville proper, belonging to the borg of greater Davidson County. I suppose that, in time, realtors will give it a snazzy name but for now, I'm lost if there is one. It's off Murfreesboro Pike past the airport heading towards Bell Road. Does that help? In any event, once you cross over Old M-boro Road and drive deeper into a residential area, you'll find it. This is a newer construction and obvious use of taxpayer funds. This was county land that locals, I assume, used to hike and/or ignore to their heart's content. Now, Una Park is a very impressive athletic destination. Large hills give way to sweeping sky views and multiple fields for all sorts of sporting interests. I noted 2-3 large baseball fields, a football field, a soccer field (that could be used for football), decent parking facilities (though not enough for all the different fields), concession stands, a pavilion, a small (new) playground, and a skate park. With the abundance of flood lights and team banners, Una Park is, obviously, ground zero for local sports teams and once spring hits, I'm sure it will be packed with families cheering on their young athletes. So, if you fall into this specific demo, Una Park is a 5-star park without a doubt. For the rest of us, however, Una Park isn't quite as welcoming. I like to come to parks to engage with green spaces, look at mature trees and flowers and get lost in my thoughts for a bit. Una Park doesn't offer much of any of this. This is a park of (local) utility rather than design. This isn't a 'park' in the sense of Radnor or Shelby. You don't come here to get away from city madness or take pictures. You come here to root on your athlete-scholar. That's fine and well but it's a bit too specific for my needs/interests at this time. If this is your bag, however, I'm sure you;ll love it. For what it is, it's very well done.

The park itself was softly established in the 1960s, without much fanfare. Itself not far from the city of Murfreesboro, the park was home to sporting events between Nashville and Murfreesboro in the 1970's, 1980's, and 1990's. Metro Nashville pumped some money into the park in 2007, re-establishing the park at the time. It currently has a playground, baseball field, football field, and skate park over 24 acres. It has paved pathways between and around the various fields, and it took us about half an hour to walk about .8mile around the park.
