We got the veggie combo. So flavorful without being too salty or oily. 10/10 will come back. Even my picky toddler loved the red lentils.

Now when it comes to a family combo size (that's what they mean) and, it was absolutely amazingly delicious. Of course it was piping hot and, the presentation was beautiful. Lamb was so good and tender with a right amount of spice (what we asked for) 2 beef dishes slight differences in taste (1 spicy and the other mild). Veggies are well seasoned with flavor and, truly complement the meal. Service~She was an absolutely beautiful and, it was a pleasure to meet such a humbling young lady. She knew the menu and, we were able to make a change with no issue (I don't care for beets). She continued to check on us and, she made sure we had everything what we needed! Ambiance~Delightful Family Owned Business (I had thank the cooks), restroom for customers, and, It's located on MLK (busy street)! It's a parking lot but, limited parking due to other businesses (plenty of street parking)! I would highly recommend giving this restaurant a try (I guarantee you will come again sooner than later)!!!

I judge an Ethiopian restaurant by their berbere. I make my own. I am disappointed in this one. My…read morestandard is Jarra's, Portland's first Ethiopian restaurant to my knowledge. Lalibela used a sour paprika, and the other spices such as ginger and cinnamon are not perceptible. In my Ethiopian restaurant experience, I have never had a sour berbere before. The derek tips were very, very dry, toward jerky. With a dry-spiced dish, you have to get the meat cooked to a moist tender state, almost braised, then combine it with the spices and oil at the last moment. More rosemary would be welcome. The Lalibela Special I ordered lists salad, but it was absent in my order. It's easy enough to make salad at home. The injera was fine. The collards were quite tasty, even sweet, so +1 for that. I woud agree with the other reviewer that incense is never appropriate in a restaurant. Much of taste is smell, and strong non-menu-related smells work against the food experience. Incense entered the air while I was waiting for my order. You never know if another party is going to request coffee with it while you are there, so prepare your senses. I understand that is traditional in Ethiopia around roasting coffee in restaurants. Maybe they need an outdoor patio or a separate room for it? The staff was nice and my take away order was fast. I think this completes my Portland collection, other cities beckon! https://www.yelp.com/collection/S6aAlFKE7m1h14Lmf1_EDw/Ethiopian-Food-Yum

Sometimes this could be a good thing, but in this case they have significantly reduced their offerings, and the items available are not as flavorful or served correctly either. We went as a group of six adults and 1 toddler, and were not offered or suggested on comfortable seating options given that the food is all served family style and in one single platter. We ended up having to move tables and chairs around on our own to ensure each member of our party had access to the dish. Now coming to the food itself, we ordered the enjoni special but were only given 5 of the eight veggies as per the menu listing, and when we asked our waiter, he brought out three more items but not the ones we were missing but rather repeats of the same. Perhaps this wouldn't be as big of a complaint if all the items were actually flavorful as they used to be previously, but instead most of the veggies were exceptionally bland. I really would love for these things to be improved and fixed as I would hate to have to avoid a place that we had such fond memories of! The reason for 2 stars instead of just one is that they do have halal meat, and atleast those were properly flavorful!
