I really enjoyed my time at Retreat at West Creek. Jacob, Sam and the entire maintenance team is awesome. I saw posts about bugs but I never really had a problem that was out of the ordinary. People though do need to remember that although you are minutes away from short pump, you are in the middle of the woods. The woods have bugs so I think some of the comments are a little much. read more

We lived here for 15 months and chose to move as renewing our lease would increase our rent substantially. Pros: maintenance is very friendly and fast to respond to any issues, residents are very nice, there are a lot of retirees so the neighborhood is fairly quiet, the office has activities each month that sometimes can involve snacks which is always a plus, the gym/pool/and pet spa are kept clean Cons: nobody cleans up their poop in the dog park and it is EVERYWHERE-nothing is really done about it, the walls and ceilings/floors are paper thin and you can hear everything them, the business room doesn't stay open after hours so you don't have access to the printer, computers, or wrapping station once the office closes. We had to ask for an itemized bill as they sent us $9 of our $250 security deposit with no explanation. I have rented many times in the past and have ALWAYS received my full security deposit returned to me. This is the first time I didn't get my full refund from any rental property as I'm very clean and always leave the apartment cleaner than when I moved in. When moving out, you have the option to pay a fee and have your apartment cleaned, have just the carpet cleaned, or do it yourself. We decided to clean it ourselves. We were then charged $145 to express clean our one bedroom apartment because "due to the condition of the carpet we had to use one of our contractors to have it professionally cleaned." I believe the option to just have the carpet cleaned was around $45. There were no stains on the carpet, and no damage, just normal wear and tear that came from living there for a year and a half. When we moved in, the carpet was obviously not new either. After trying to contact the office twice, I finally reached an off site worker who said they would relay the message to her a call back which I never received. I then called the office again and was finally able to reach someone, who couldn't answer our question as to why we were charged such a high rate. The next day we received an email from one of the other office ladies who sent our move our inspection form. We emailed a few times back and forth then she stopped responding when asked why our fee was so much higher than quoted on our move our day for the 'professional carpet cleaning'. I have reached back out via email and phone and yet again have not received a response or an answer when calling. I have attached pictures of what the carpet (with normal wear and tear) and apartment looked like freshly mopped and cleaned when we moved out, so if you choose to live here, you can see what they will charge you for. We had a fairly decent experience living here but unfortunately the move out process has really ruined the whole experience for us and I don't think we would suggest living at the retreat at west creek to anyone, hopefully other MAA communities are better. read more

Me and my fiancé lived here for about two years until they raised rent for a place with subpar amenities. Even after moving out, when calling for requests, they do not call back when asked. There are MUCH better communities in Richmond and the Short Pump area, look elsewhere. read more

Was promised after move in that the balcony floor would be cleaned and repaired. Didn't happen. Tons of construction traffic through the only street into the complex. No sound control whatsoever. I also forgot to mention that the washing machine and the dryer are not the same set nor size. so when i run a wash ,it takes two loads in the dryer because it's not the correct match. Been living here for 4 miserable months. The complex is being constructed by "lowest bidder" Just a few issues I have documentation showing sound proofing material is used between apartments however the material used between floors is just standard run of the "filler" with the main area of apartments being "wood" flooring much closer to plastic you can hear every step you upstairs neighbor takes. A rental agent was even shocked when she was in my apt ad another agent was upstairs. Currently, I have what appears to be an orphanage above with So I have to place this at top of list dog. Secondly, I have a two bedroom end unit. Any time temp falls below 30 the master bath temperature never gets above 63 which is not just chilly but falls below the state required minimum for Oct - may. One could withhold portion of rent. I am disabled so am limited on just packing up In order to deal with issue 1 noise I met with manager, Brian and told him I wanted to move to next new building on top floor he pulled out his paperwork and actually wrote something I assume my name on the apartment layout sheet. I stopped by the office at least twice over the following month and commented to other apt employees of my move. Yesterday an employee told me final inspections were Friday so Today I stopped by to confirm move dates and was told by manager brian, after he was thumbing thru paperwork that the unit we had agreed on was rented and the whole deal about flipping thru paperwork whilst knowing all the time truly displays a level of "skumbagnes" as he replied "I only said I would get in touch" this was the low point As for the "built by the lowest bidder" in order to fix my issue of open air flow at all doors I have solved issue with front door with thin layer of foam covered with duck tape as the air flow was only at bottom. However, the air flow at door to porch could only be addressed by duck tapping bottom and 3 feet up so as to not be able use door/porch til spring In conclusion, I being somewhat of a photo buff I have taken the opportunity of documenting with 1000th of pics every detail of the construction of these units and surely am waiting for explanations of the above issues as well as many more. One at top of list is they offer small storage units in attached building's for a fee which I have pictures they use the high quality sound proofing insulation for storage units whist in between floors of apartments they use something more on the line of low quality toilet paper Just beware I pay more 1600 when all is added which is more than my last mortgage on 400000 house. Surely the saddest fact is that this is just the first project here in the land of my relatives, (I am a nuckols) that will eventually stretch all the way to Patterson Ave. The only hope is that they will have a hard time finding such "shady" managers to run their new projects and surely the county of Goochland will eventually come to their senses and put and end to such low class construction and shady management in such a beautiful and once a truly class county in all of this country My father always told me " a fool and his money soon do part" and believe me it is never so true every time I write a check to the retreat at west creek. read more

This one of the best apartment complex I have ever lived in. The place is beautiful and has a rustic atmosphere like you are at a mountain retreat. My 10-mo lease has ended. So, I felt compelled to write an honest review. Overall, I've had a comfortable stay here with no hassles. Pros: * My top floor apartment faced Wilkes Ridge Parkway. I had no noise issues. * Clean. NO rodents, litter or bugs in my unit or any of the common areas that I've seen. * Beautiful community surrounded by trees. If you're a nature lover like me, this will appeal to you. * Online payment system (cards accepted) * Quiet neighborhood, off the beaten path of Broad street. * Resident events every month. * Interstate access to 64 * Lots of amenities nearby - groceries, bars, restaurants etc. Cons: * Only one trash receptable for such a large complex doesn't make sense logistically. * Price per sq ft. is expensive compared to other nearby communities. * My floorplan (Tyler), bedroom was on the smaller side. I was able to fit a queen bed, but only 1 of my nightstands. * Typical suburban living. I prefer urban areas, but chose this location as it's super close to my work client's location. * Short term leases over here are too expensive as compared to other places I looked at around Richmond. Bottom line: Moderately priced, recently constructed complex in the Short Pump area with a community feel. Updated 7/24/17 - I left the apartment perfectly clean with only a bulb missing from one of the track lighting fixtures, that I pointed out during the walk thru. Also, I expected a $45 charge for carpet cleaning. Yet, from my $250 deposit I received a check for only $138. No itemized bill explaining the extra charges accompanied the check. Guess the management company didn't feel I needed to know why they kept my money. Very shady. Deducted one star. In my history of renting, I have never not received my entire deposit back after completing a lease term. read more

I've lived here for about 4 months and it's perfect for my boyfriend and me. We originally moved into a 1st floor apartment in Phase II (newer buildings), and the noise above us was highly unusual and unbearable. I believe we had a special case and I don't believe that the level of noise we experienced is common here when living below someone else. The staff was so helpful and understanding, and we were able to move into a 3rd floor apartment in Phase I (older buildings). Our neighbors are incredibly friendly and it's awesome knowing the staff genuinely cares about their residents. The grounds are always clean and the pool is gorgeous; it truly feels like a cabin retreat. The complex is also located directly next to every highway you'd need access to, but you can't hear any road noise whatsoever because the complex is surrounded by the trees (which I love!). I highly recommend this complex to those who enjoy being close to nature and quiet living. read more

The construction between floors is like plywood between our units. We hear our neighbor above stomping her feet all day, yelling in the phone, and her dogs running. My fiancé and I moved into to the Retreat at West Creek a few months ago. We were very excited to move into our apartment upon viewing numerous apartments in the greater Short Pump area. Knowing that the Retreat apartments were new builds, no one lived in the apartment before us, and the close proximity to Short Pump and the highways; was a huge factor in our decision. We viewed several different apartments in multiple buildings and we decided on a two bedroom apartment. After the first week many negative things became apparent. The quality and care of the construction is very bad. All the cabinet shelving pegs were installed upside down in every cabinet. The dishwasher is a standard hotel washer. The garbage disposal sucks. The refrigerator is also hotel grade. The shelving in the hallway closet is a bad design, so it's difficult to hang coats and jackets. We had to fix several of the window shades that were installed improperly. The center island counter top is noticeably crooked. The hot water heater is too small for two people to have decent separate showers back to back. The bathrooms didn't have any towel racks, but did have hand towel racks. So, i installed towel racks because it's so easy and affordable to do. The deck isn't level. There are shingles that hang off the side of the roof that obviously weren't finished correctly. I realize these are a few minor issues, but the worst issue is the sound proofing between floors. The construction between floors is like plywood between our units. We hear our neighbor above stomping her feet all day and her dogs running. She has complained about us to the main office saying that we're loud past the 11PM quiet hours. I told the employees at West Creek that we're not loud and that we're not changing our lifestyle. The sad part is that we have realized that it's not our fault, but West Creeks construction. I asked my neighbor next door (on the same floor) if they have had any issues or complaints with their neighbors above and below. He explained that the tenants have complained about them also. We're renting in the hope of living in quietness and peace. Unfortunately, the Retreat at West Creek is far from that. read more

Recently, Colby and I moved to Richmond, and were delighted to find a breed friendly community that was everything we were looking for. After reading lots of negative reviews on the place, we decided to disregard them and take the plunge. After about 2 months of living here, we received a notice that our dog had expressed "aggressive" behavior (I don't think she has even barked once since we've been in this apartment) and we either had to terminate our lease or remove her from the premises. As I was not understanding, I went down to the office to get some answers. Apparently there were 3 complaints filed against Karma for showing "aggressive" behavior. As I was surprised, I asked what the complaints were, in which I was told I wasn't allowed to know. As getting rid of our SERVICE DOG and FAMILY MEMBER is definitely not an option, Colby and I are now forced to move, AGAIN, out of our home that we have started to nest in for our daughter. We have been fighting with corporate but since she has showed falsely accused signs of "aggression", there is nothing we can do but move to a new home. We do realize we could take a legal route because she is a registered service dog, but my husband and I decided it would not be worth the cost to stay at a place where they don't want to help you with your issues. read more

I relocated from Rochester, New York for work ( Wegmans). I looked at 13 places for my search visit and every time I came back to Retreat. I honestly love it here so much. Jenna is the nicest person ever!!! She goes out of her way to help you with anything! The grounds are kept up, pool is beautiful. Even though you're on a busy road, you would never know it once you drive back to the complex. The majority of the residents are so friendly too! The only drawback is the noise of the people above you.... But it's apartment living. You get used to it and most people are considerate of the people below you. Other than that I love it. read more

I moved into Retreat about a year ago and it has been nothing short of amazing. First, the staff members are courteous and professional. Anytime I have contacted the office, they have responded promptly. They host resident events regularly and sometimes I come home to find cute notes and treats that they have placed on everyone's door. The maintenance men are the sweetest guys. I have had a few work orders I have put in about normal wear and tear items I was being picky about. They were fixed within a day! One time I didn't realize I had a light out, they noticed and just fixed it for me right then. Another time I dropped a charm to my bracelet and it got into a tiny crevice in my bathroom that I could not get. Even though it wasn't a maintenance issue, they came and got it out for me. The amenities are great and well kept. I am in love with my apartment. Not only is it gorgeous but I love the layout and the quality. It makes me happy to come home to every day. I would definitely recommend anyone to live here. I just got my renewal offer and I will definitely be staying. read more

I've written this review previously however it does not appear on the Yelp ratings?? In summary: good offce and maintenance staff. Prompt response to maintenace issues. Well-kept grounds. Significant noise issues. Cheaply built so you can easily hear noises from adjoining apartments. Interior corridors. When someone closes an exterior it shakes your apartment-extremely annoying. We had to extend month-to-month so they added an additional $1,000.00 per month. If there is a chance you will need to go month-to-month be prepared. Fortunately we are moving soon. Had we known of these issues we would have looked elsewhere. read more

Jenna in particular has been awesome; she is always full of information and willing to help. Not only was she able to help navigate me around the property, but she recommended a great restaurant as well. The only thing I didn't love was the hardwood floors, but that I can live with. Have lived here for almost one year. I found they put a fraud record on my credit report. Even if I always pay the rent bill on time, they claimed I owned them a payment for 1 month lease bill since the first day I moved in. Be careful about the information you provide to them. Maybe they will add a lot of report negative record on your credit. Besides, the women in the leasing office is not willing to cooperate with us when we apply the credit dispute. read more

Horrible customer service. Do not waste your time. Do not rent! They said they would refund my deposit and a week later they had changed their mind and decided not to follow up with me. It has been a total circus with me trying to get my money back. I am a federal employee who is well traveled and has several duty stations, but this is the worst living experience I have ever had. I moved across country from New Mexico to Virginia. I was told the apartment would be ready by Nov. 5th. I arrived and the apartment was nowhere near being complete. They told me the 5th, 7th, 11th, 13th, 17th, 1st week in Dec., then to sometime in Dec. It is Dec. 5th and they are still not completed. They kept stringing me along. This is unbelievable because of the infrastructure boom in Short Pump. Apartments and shopping malls are being completed on a daily basis. While calling for updates or even driving by after work no one was able to give an update. Clearly the staff has no clue to what was going on. While living out of a suit case and in a hotel for three weeks, I found myself motivated to look for better accommodations. Upon finding those accommodations, I asked for my deposit back because they had not lived up to their expectations. I went round and round with different staff members. No one was able to help me. I felt like they were purposely avoiding me. My persistence has paid off because they will not follow up with you. When I called and asked to speak to a manager, that individual who picked up the phone said they had to speak to their manager. When you ask to speak to a manager, you expect an answer. Either they do not have a manager or the true manager did not want to be contacted. What type of customer service is this? Finally, one of the leasing specialist agreed to return my deposit. A week later I contacted to check on the status of my refund and she told me now they cannot refund my deposit and has decided not to follow up any further with me. I have all of this in email and documentation. When I ask to speak to her manger because now they are going back on their word, she asked to see the emails and does not see the statement about refunding my deposit. She tells me she will have an answer for me by the end of the day two days ago. I highlighted me the statement and resent the email. They decided not to respond anymore to me. They know they are in the wrong and they are hoping I will give up. They still have not gotten back to me. While at my new apartment, I met a young lady with a similar experience. She graduated in May. In January, she looked at the apartments and was told they would be done in May. They were not, she too was forced to look for other housing. Clearly, if they were not done in May and still not done in Dec. then they are not going to be done anytime soon. They have tons of construction material, but no construction going on. The walls are thin and they are poorly built. The gym is a size of a closet do not let the pictures fool you. The room spaces are extremely small. A small couch and small pub size kitchen table will not fit into the smallest building Tyler. The traffic to get to these apartments is awful and they are further from short pump than advertised.
