To start off, I have had been exploring my fair share of gyms in the Metro Detroit area for quite some time now. I am a faithful member to power house gym (which I would highly recommend), but wanted to explore more options and see what Mac gym was all about. One of my buddies has a membership with them and told me they could hook me up with a guest pass so we could get a workout in together. I arrived at the gym before my friend, and he told me to go inside and wait for him. The first thing I noticed was all the staff were sitting on their phones and did not acknowledge my existence for a few minutes. Eventually the scum bag manager approached me and asked what I was doing. Please note this guy was a complete ass. He dressed like a stereotypical douche bag who wants to show off his "wealth". After I told him what I was doing, he had the front desk assistant give me a tour of the gym. Afterwards the assistant sat me down at the desk and immediately brought out the paperwork and talked about monthly plans. I respectfully told her I am here waiting on a friend and was not interested in joining at the moment. Before the staff was able to try to convince me, I got up out of my seat and told them to have a good day. As I turned for the door, the same scum bag manager put his hand on my shoulder and practically forced me back down into my seat. He was standing over my shoulder and breathing down my neck and would not let me back up to leave. He started his normal salesman speech about how great their gym was and seemed to take interest in my personal life. Again, I respectfully declined. However, this guy was not taking no for an answer. He started talking complete nonsense and made comments about how I must have money to join because of what I was wearing. I was wearing a north face hoodie. I went to get up again, but this time had two different sales associates crowding over me. As a 19 year old kid, I found it hard to get up and walk away. I have never been in a situation like this where I was so uncomfortable. After about 20 minutes of listening to their bullshit, I got up and walked out. I was shaking from anxiety and could not believe the amount of pressure the staff put on me to simply join the gym. I would never in a million years go back to this establishment and wouldn't recommend anyone goes alone. The actual gym itself was nice. The sauna, equipment, and atmosphere were right up my alley. However, the sorry excuse for a gym staff is an instant turn off. The rude, arrogant, manipulative, lazy, blunt manager was the worst person I have met in my life. Stay away from this gym because of their fraudulent contract practices. I fulfilled my two year contract with them and cancelled TWO months before the end of my contract in person. I also called 30 days before my contract was up to ensure I was done. They informed me I had to pay a 25th month - which I did - and was assured that I was then done. Now they are trying to charge me for a converted membership - not authorized by me - and tell me I have to make an appointment to cancel in person. I already did cancel in person in APRIL (it is now August) and after not being called back after at least 7 interactions with "non-managers" that promised me I would hear back in the same day, I filed fraud with my bank. The trainer assured me repeatedly that I wouldn't be locked into any recurring payments for personal training and my only contractual obligation was the 39.99/month membership fee. This assurance was a blatant lie. Hidden Fees and Unauthorized Charges: The Personal Training (PT) Agreement was printed/hand-filled, but the copy that was supposedly executed was withheld from me, I only received the digital membership agreement showing zero PT fees. After I noticed unauthorized charges of $195 in weekly fees I tried to get clarity. The gym acted surprised at my reaction and refused my request by "forgetting to email" or putting a different employee in charge of my case to keep me in an endless loop of meetings designed to discourage me. I received a copy of the PT agreement via text message days ago (May 3rd) finally revealing obligations I was assured did not exist. Before leaving on Sept 3, 2023, I explicitly stated I wanted to cancel any PT agreement if there was any fee beyond the membership + $390 worth of sessions. The trainer said there was nothing to cancel other than the membership. He even joked, "We are not LA Fitness." Also, the only contract they emailed solely represented the digital membership. Zero PT agreements so I felt as though the trainer had been honest. Financial Impact: Working in construction means I can manage this financial burden, but what if I were a single mother struggling to buy baby formula? The predatory nature of these contracts could cripple someone living paycheck to paycheck. The gym's practices are not just deceptive; they are potentially ruinous for anyone on a tight budget. Blaming Employees: When confronted, the gym's owner, Jeff, will not speak to you but has time to fly to CA to watch the Lions play, (with stolen money) and he is the only person who can provide a refund or stop the charges. He instructs his team to blame former employees. They portray themselves as victims of bad employees, but this is part of a calculated strategy. The turnover rate is high, with managers leaving due to the unethical practices they witnessed. One explicitly stated they left because of illegal and unethical behavior. They are willing to testify to these practices, highlighting a pattern of deception and exploitation. Trained Deception: The sales staff at MAC Gym are trained to mislead customers with statements like, "You have to pay your cell phone bill even if you don't use it," to justify ongoing charges. They create a false sense of security during the sign-up process, only to trap customers in financially draining contracts. When I realized the extent of the deception, their customer service was evasive and unhelpful, further compounding my frustration and financial loss. Really wish 0 stars was an option because it doesn't deserve any stars. This place is a total scam and the people have no problem lying to you. They don't care about anything but money. The equipment is always broken and the rags there are disgusting, they must rarely (if ever) wash them or get new ones. Plus the vending machine doesn't work, it takes your money and doesn't give you what you want just like this shady gym. My experience with this place has been horrible and I know many others who have had an awful time with this place. Beware and stay away from this place. Jeff and Tamra, the owners of Mac Gym, have managed to remove my last google review somehow so here is another and I'm sure they'll have their people leave multiple empty 5 star reviews after this so that this review is not at the top. Long story short, Jeff and Tamra are incompetent business owners and have now entered into illegal territory with their fraudulent activity. From the start, their lack of professionalism and concern for members has been evident. Their customer service is nearly non-existent; resolving issues or addressing complaints takes forever, if it happens at all. We have tried resolving our issue several times with one of Jeff's many puppets including his own wife, Tamra. The only resolution anyone has for us still leads us to continue paying them thousands of dollars for unused and unwanted services. A few months ago was the last time we tried to resolve the issue, we had set up a meeting at a scheduled time with Tamra (notice how Jeff wasn't there) and she showed up 30 minutes late because "she didn't think we were coming" even though we had confirmed with her days before meeting? She also had one of her own temporary puppets come with her to discuss the matter in which they both made out of line comments degrading my character and my relationship. What that had to do with our membership is beyond me but just goes to show how unprofessional they are. I was there to talk business and nothing else. There was no resolution and we were left stranded, zero communication on their end since then regarding the matter. Fast forward to present, they have continued to charge our account. I am unable to log into the club membership app. We still have no copy of the contract that we signed originally (we never received a physical copy of what we signed to begin with), so what now? When we were using the facility we had switched the credit card we were using to pay for our contract and then they took it upon themselves this week to charge the previous credit card without my consent or knowledge. THEN they decided to pull up another credit card I had used to make a purchase there back in January and charged my credit card $200 three days ago without my authorization. Mind you, this credit card was not on file and was only used once to purchase merchandise. The total charges on 3 separate credit cards have totaled around $8000. That's right, eight THOUSAND dollars. I am left speechless. It's clear that the owners are more interested in their own pockets than the well-being of their customers. They have continued to take zero accountability for their deceitful actions and have left an extremely bitter taste in my mouth. I wish I would have never joined this gym, it has been a nightmare. This is by far the best gym . If you're looking to reach your goals in an atmosphere where the staff and owners care about your progress MAC gyms are for you . I've never been a member of a gym that not only knew what I was working towards but cared if I succeeded. The gyms are always clean never overly crowded and the personal training is second to none! read more

Don't sign up. I had a terrible experience with the sign up, was lied too and paid them for two years while going to a better gym. When I tried to cancel my membership they added three additional months because I removed one child who wasn't able to attend due to a severe injury. Don't waste your money!! read more

I use all of the Mac locations whenever it's convenient for me, but Saint Clair shores is my favorite one. It is by far the nicest. I know so much of the staff there because everyone is friendly and it's clean. read more
