Specialties

Specializing exclusively in Apple computers, I started Mac Repair Yakima as an independent business right before 2020, after working for Efcom, Yakima's Mac Store, for seven years. Through the pandemic, I traveled to my clients at their homes or businesses to work on their computers or take them back to my shop for longer repairs. This remote work, without the overhead of a storefront, allowed me to keep prices lower while allowing me to stay in business. Many of my clients loved the convenience of not needing to leave the house, so I've continued working this way.

History

Established in 2019.

Mac Repair Yakima was founded to provide service for Mac computers in the Yakima Valley. Previously, the only local establishment with specialized Macintosh experience was Efcom, an Apple Authorized Service Provider. However, Efcom closed its doors in March 2018, leaving a void in central Washington. I had worked at Efcom, fixing Apple computers for over 7 years. Because of this background, Mac Repair Yakima has a unique advantage over other repair shops: all of the knowledge & experience from working directly under Apple, combined with the freedom and personalized service that can only come from an independent repair shop.

Meet the Business Owner: Ryan M.

Mac Repair Yakima is owned and operated by Ryan Maxey. Ryan is an Apple Certified Macintosh Technician with 14+ years of experience. Before starting MRY, Ryan worked as the lead technician at Efcom, Yakima's Mac Store, for 7 years. Following the owner's retirement, Efcom closed, and Mac Repair Yakima was established. Because of this background, Mac Repair Yakima has a unique advantage over other repair shops: all of the knowledge & experience from working directly under Apple, combined with the freedom and personalized service that can only come from an independent repair shop. Mac Repair Yakima is a mobile repair shop that comes to you. Most repairs can be completed in-home/in-office. Or, your computer can be picked up from your house or work, and it will be fixed at Ryan's shop, and then delivered when it's ready. Or, you can arrange to bring it to another location, such as a nearby Starbucks, and have Ryan look at it there. Whatever works best for you.

They put the servers in the new location and forgot to let domain traffic go through them. They control the domain. They put a network rack with servers in the break room -- no security and a danger. They suggested we have our computers go through old voip telephones even though another part of their company said this would be too slow. When I was in a meeting with their employee Jeff he would hardly even acknowledge my existence even though I was the sole IT person for the company. He also recommended (to a senior manager) that I put a wire in the ceiling for a connection when I am not licensed to do that and could get in serious trouble if there were a fire. It was a wall to computer network wire and would allow dangerous gases to escape from the ceiling due to their non-plenum rated wiring. I picked up far too many pieces for this company. They present themselves as more competent than they really are. If you want good IT service go elsewhere.

Tyler came to help with a stopped up drain in my 85 year old farm house, that turned into a much…read morebigger job upon realizing that the drain was not routed into the septic. Instead, it was draining into the ground...something that was acceptable in 1940 when it was built. Over 85 years, the drain pipe had eroded and likely collapsed, causing the sink to stop draining. Tyler went to great lengths to figure this out, and was 100% ambitious, positive and reassuring in stating that it would be fixable. Two days later, he returned to perform the work and succeeded at rerouting the pipe to the septic. Tyler was extremely hard working and represented his company in an exemplary manner. It was not an easy task and he should have been supported with some help, or the job assigned to a smaller plumber. He gave 5 star effort. I would not, however, rate the company as high, due their lack of concern for his safety.
