We booked an overnight stay at the Inchyra after receiving an invite to a wedding there. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly receptionist. Unusually the Inchyra still have manual key locks rather than electronic card you can put in your wallet so you have to lump a huge keyring about with you. The room was very clean, large and as it was just an overnight stay after a wedding I didn't particularly mind that the view was over the Grangemouth petro-chemical plant. I did mind however that there was not a kettle in the room to make a coffee. In all the hotels and b&b's I have stayed in, no matter how expensive or cheap I have never stayed in one that didn't have a kettle and a couple of biscuits.
I only want to mention a couple of things related to the wedding that are a more general point about the hotel. Firstly, the price of drinks. Utterly outrageous. Pick any 2 ordinary drinks and you won't likely see any change from a tenner (or even pay more than this). Secondly the bar staff were the most miserable looking people I have ever seen in my life, I don't think I heard a single thank you.
The next morning after a comfortable sleep we went downstairs for breakfast. When we entered the restaurant we were asked if we were wedding guests. When we replied in the affirmative we were told that guests were to have there breakfast in a separate area. Now we had paid for our room and were not part of the wedding party, I have no idea why we could not have our breakfast where we wanted.
We then sat in awkward silence whilst staff milled in an out of the room without acknowledging us, asking if we wanted coffee, we weren't told if it was a self service buffet or we would be served. Absolutely dreadful. Eventually another guest got the ball rolling by asking for coffee and the girl said she would bring tea, coffee and toast for the tables.
I had to ask them to go and get brown sauce as there was no sauce out, and unbelievably I was asked to pass the dish to the next table when I was done. The food itself was tasty and well cooked but very little to choose from for a breakfast buffet. There was bacon, sausages, scrambled egg, beans, and mushrooms. However no potato scones, black pudding, hash browns or any of the other items you expect from a Scottish breakfast. Really disappointing because the food, particularly the sausages, was excellent.
When we left to go back to the room I asked my wife to get me a paper. It tuns out the hotel do not buy newspapers in for guests to purchase. This despite there being no shops in site. This is again ridiculous. At this point I heard another guest note a sign that apparently says you cannot consume your own drink in the hotel room. Again this is just bizarre.
I don't really know what to say. I can't complain about the room or the facilities, but there is no care at all for customer service. It is like they see them having five star hotel but want to maintain Ryanair penny pinching and profiteering. I will not be staying here again, and advise you not to if you unless you want to pay a premium price for a budget service. read more
