Everything was really nice! The atmosphere was laid back and inviting. The food was all really good! I personally think the pasta fagioli was a bit watery, but all the other food we had was amazing. I got the prime rib special and it was excellent! I wish the plate was a bit less compartmentalized with separate dishes, but that's just a personal preference. The booth bench at the tables along the wall are a bit high, it was a bit hard to reach the table and my knees barely fit under it, but that would really be my only complaint! Went to dinner last night with the five of my friends, last night and it was not a good experience. They only serve beer, no liquor or wine. I don't know why that is because they used to. I got a Cesar salad with chicken, but there were more croutons in the salad than chicken. My husband got the spaghetti and meatballs. He said the sauce tasted like it came out of a jar. I have to say we did get good service from our waitress. When we got our checks, I happen to notice they added a 20% gratitude to our bill. Good thing I did check because most of the restaurants we go to don't do this. The waitress did not tell us about it either. I wonder how many people don't notice this and also leave them an extra tip. We will not be back that's for sure. read more

Was very anxious to try Machiavelli's and went with my husband and granddaughter. The food was not good at all. My granddaughter and I both ordered spaghetti with meatballs. The sauce was very thick and had no tomato taste at all. My granddaughter stated that to her the meat was overcooked and I absolututely agree. This is a cute Italian restaurant. It is honestly a lot bigger inside than we first thought so they have plenty of seating and probably a good place for a big group of people! The food was also pretty good and SUPER good portions for the price! I ordered the penne all vodka and added chicken to it! All of their pastas come with a salad and a breadstick too. The salad was good and the Italian dressing was also good. The breadstick wasn't my favorite, it was a little dense and I was also sad you had to pay for bread before the meal unlike some restaurants were it is complimentary, but honestly would pass on an order of them. My pasta was really good and saucy just like I like it and I'm glad I added chicken for a lil extra protein in there. This is my favorite local pizza place! Little hidden gem that has some of the best white pizza ever, I just turned it pink! The crust is nice and thin and crispy, the white sauce is a creamy Alfredo, and they use quality cheese so it stretches forever! My family has been eating here for a couple of years now. The first time I ate here I found it promising. Our server was awesome! We ordered a pizza and mixed it up by making a pink a sauce and ordered a pasta. The pizza was the star that night. Since then, I have ordered a few different menu items other than pizza and I was just flat out disappointed. Also, other servers have not been as good. The last time my family went in we were with a friends family so it was a big party. They seated us in the back room and basically forgot about us. It took FOREVER to get our food and when we did, most were not overly happy. The pizza was ok but it's just not as good as the first time I had it. Maybe that is just my taste buds changing over the past couple of years, maybe not. All in all though, based on how long it has taken to get food the past couple of times, and how disappointed everyone I know has been with anything other than pizza (and appetizers of course) I just can't give this more than three stars now. Now my wife on the other hand has a completely different opinion as she absolutely loves the pizza. I just found it very salty the past couple of times and also found the crust to be a little off. Again, my tastes may have just changed over the past couple of years as I don't live in the area like she does. Oh, they also have a nice selection of beer and the atmosphere is nice as long as you are not at that table in the back room. Would I eat here again, of course. It isn't terrible, it's just more of a pizza joint to me. I guess what I am trying to say is that if you like pizza give it a shot. Especially on Sundays when they have a deal on pizza. While we didn't indulge in the pizza offerings (tempting), Machiavelli's was a welcoming refuge for two weary travelers who just arrived ravenous from the 5 hour drive from Nashville. The place was packed with imbibers especially since it was a Friday night with some tented street festival going on right outside the door. We made the drive to Bristol for the Gentleman of the Road festival so this was a welcome surprise. Once we sat down to a table, a friendly server dropped off some menus and took our drink order. Red wine served in plastic cups with a bit of Tom Petty on the jukebox made me smile but the Greek Salad ($7) and Sun Dried Tomato Hummus served with tortilla chips ($6) were satisfying. They were nice enough to split the servings for us too. Service was efficient and consistent. The crowd was definitely snockered but fun and my only regret is that I didn't order a pizza... Easily my favorite restaurant in Bristol (both TN and VA). I'll admit, I'm a fan of pizzarias that offer kind of non-standard topping choices (spinach, artichoke, etc.). That and I just really enjoy not only their pizzas, but every single dish (hummus, etc.) I have had from here has been extremely good. Also, being a beer connoisseur, I don't see how anyone could help but love the place. Not only to they have a pretty darn good selection (both on draft and in bottle), but they are very open to looking into acquiring recommended beers. I love this cozy corner of a restaurant and it's candle lit dining area, as well as the bar and how its hopping if they have a live band playing. Hands down the best pizza I've ever had. The white pizza is my favorite. I normally am not crazy about pepperoni, or much red meat in general but whatever it is about the meaty pizza is positively astounding! Every single bite is worth the cardiac arrest that may ensue shortly thereafter. There's always room for the Italian nachos too... and beer of course. I'd give it 0 stars if possible. We booked the private room for our anniversary dinner with 20 friends. 1st manager we spoke to apparantly doesn't know what she is doing. When I went on the day before the party to order food the 2nd manger and owner had to completely redo what she had wrote down. We show up for the party and 1st manager is working. Proceeded to claim credit for things being fixed. Strike 1. We get in the room and the large bowls of salad dressing have no utensils. We wait and wait. One of our guest have to go ask for them finally. Drinks were a fiasco we had to ask for multiple drinks over and over before they finally came. One person asked for a glass of water 4 times. Tea looked weird and was very watered down. Beers came and had so much ice in them they couldn't be consumed until the ice melted. Slow refills. I spent the whole evening trying to make sure everyone finally got simple things like refills or utensils instead of enjoying my dinner. We were paying for everything except people's drinks. They bring us the check and its drinks included. Took forever to get them to fix that. Then we ask were our military discount is especially since the owner told us just the day before that yes they would do a military discount. 1st manger proceeds to get rude and tell us we aren't getting one. When I tell her the owner said they do it she still argues. When I bring up the horrible service I'm basically told I'm wrong and the waitress was fantastic. I'm sorry but if you have 20 people all complaining of the same thing your waitress failed big time. Refused us the military discount added a $41 tip even after we had major issues with service then had the audacity to add a tip on to people individual drink tabs that were no more than $3-$4. Best pizza in town. Great toppings available and the specialty pizzas are great combinations. They usually have a special pizza on the chalkboard when you enter which is always good. Other favorites are fruit and cheese tray, spinach dip, wings and Italian nachos. All the pasta dishes are great as well. The pasta fagiole and ceasar salad are the best around. It's tough to find the perfect Italian restaurant but Machiavelli's comes real close! The ambiance is relaxing and fun, the service is excellent (Hannah was our server, what a doll!), the prices were fair for the experience & meal and last but not least, the food was scrumptious! There were 5 in our party & everyone was very pleased. We live here in Bristol so we'll be back often. Oh, and their craft beer was an excellent choice. I'll start off by saying their pizza is delicious and the atmosphere is really nice to dine in. It was previously one of my favorite places to eat in Bristol. However, after today, I don't think I'll be back any time soon. I ordered a small pizza, which was great as always, and a Long Island Iced tea. The first drink she brought out had some weird black flakes floating in it (looked to me like the kind you get when you don't clean the nozzles on drink dispensers for a while). I brought it to our waitress's attention and she took it back, without apology, and brought me another a few minutes later. The second one also had some black flakes, though they were small and not as many, and a bug floating in it. (Looked like a large gnat maybe?) I got her attention, showed her the bug, and let her know I didn't want a drink anymore. She took it back, again without apology, and I heard/saw her laughing about it to a coworker. I didn't think it was funny - I thought it was pretty gross. They didn't offer to discount my meal, though she did apologize as we left. The waitress was very nice otherwise, but I got the impression she didn't really care that they tried to serve me a nasty drink twice or how I felt about it. read more
