I don't know if the bartender just didn't care that evening or if we were being retaliated against for coming in "late" (again their own website says they are open till 11 pm we came in a few minutes before 9 pm) but my first drink had no liquor in it - $12 drink mind you. The second drink I ordered I switched it up and got a basic gin and tonic because no way they could mess that up - spoiler: they did. It was tonic with LITERALLY a splash of gin. My apologies if we came in late but if it was going to be such an inconvenience for you I would've preferred you turned us away. Instead, you took our money, gave us old food that wasn't even remotely close to what the menu states it is. No bread. Shit drinks. All at a top tier price for this area. That was my 9th or 10th time dining at the black olive. It was also my last.

My meatballs are renowned with our family and circle of friends. Not only are we of Italian descent, we are from NYC where there are the best restaurants in the world!!!! We have lived there over 60 years and have ate at the best! We entered the restaurant to see the entry King Kong sign about being the best -- better than NYC. I knew immediately that sign was spot on -- the restaurant smelled like my home growing up as a child on Sunday mornings! The aroma of the red tomato sauce carried us into our seats! (I think I was floating.) There were so many choices on the menu, it was difficult to make our choices. I decided on a plate of spaghetti with meat sauce and the chicken salad. My husband chose the raviolis and a side salad. The dinner included Italian garlic bread! The service from our server was divine: friendly, courteous and professional. The owner/chef visited us at the table a few times to be sure everything was alright, and it was MORE THAN alright. The food was "delicioso! We are so grateful that God brought us to this awesome restaurant in Abingdon, VA!! We'll be back!

We were near Gray, TN for a youth volleyball tournament. We had a break at lunch. We took several parents and players and went to Stephen's for some pizza. We were very surprised at how much room they have. They had no problem accommodating a large party like we had. We sat on their enclosed patio. They didn't mind at all to move some tables around so we could all sit together. The food.....WOW!! New York style crust cooked on a stone oven gave it a crunch that was terrific. The pizza was great! We had a sampling of many different things. We tried a Greek Salad....fantastic! We had a Pesto based chicken pizza...awesome! Of course, the old standard pepperoni pizza for the kids was outstanding too. But, they young man at the front counter told us about a pizza they just made......Oh My Gosh!!! It was a Philly Steak Pizza!!!!! They make it with the same philly meat they slice for their sandwiches. They start with a base of alfredo sauce. Then they add the philly meat, fresh green peppers and onions and top it with their pizza cheese. WOW!! It was delicious! I highly recommend this place to everyone. read more

Although the pizza is good, the staff and owner within the business are questionable. Tips are not given to the employees like they should be and when it comes to time cards and employees getting paid, it's also questionable. I don't recommend anyone seek any employment there. I also understand it is under new ownership and not the original owner. read more
