Got a cut here a few days ago. Wasn't thrilled. I booked online and used "any barber", I would recommend against this. There was nobody in the place and I felt rushed out. Went in and clearly explained that I usually get a 2-3 on the sides and leave it long on top since I have curly hair. Instead, the barber gave me a 1 on the sides, took it all the way up, and left barely an inch on top. It felt like he didn't listen to a single word I said. Recently visited this Barbershop, They declined our service. (I'm sure they thought we were drunk when we weren't) but we're clumsy as hell and enjoy each other company. The guy claim he has a client at 1615 and the female barber claim she didn't have openings until tomorrow. I'm very with it and was willing to spend money I have a very successful career in anesthesia an feel like there was something behind this. Welp. 2strikes, youre out. The stylist was 30mins late to my appt. And then kept arguing with me about my hair. Kept telling me I need to take my part farther up on my head. I told her it's not that. Because it's already too far up. It just needs length taken off. And she kept arguing with me saying in a patronizing tone "mmmmm well it's not THAT. I'm the professional here" Surprise lady, I went to hair school too. I've been in the beauty industry for 17 years. I've been getting my hair cut the same with for the past 20 years. I know my head. I know my hair. The last time I was here one of your stylists butchered my hair by not listening to me and did what he wanted anyway despite what my specific instructions were. And now you're sitting here telling me how bad my haircut is and telling me you're going to do the exact opposite thing from what I want or need. " The FIRST time I was here, Murphy (another barber) got my personal number from the appt book and proceeded to ask me to send him nude photos of myself. Saying how he cut someone else's hair after me who claimed to know how large my **** is. A line and boundary that should have NEVER been crossed. I'm a guy. I have short brown hair. I went in to get it to platinum blonde. It's advertised on the website as $100+ , $150 if double process. She did have to wash my hair out after first bleach. And basically use the same stuff to do it, while I waited the 2nd time. She did a full haircut on another client. At the end, turns out she burnt my scalp a bit. Charged me $240 + TIP ($280) to dye my hair and then basically buzz cut. To top it off, I told her when I sat down I wanted it colored first and then cut. She proceeded to cut my hair, even use razor to shave my neck hair, cut my neck up that my friend even noticed, then think it's a good idea to put bleach around it. At the end, I felt ripped off. I've gone to better places for a far less price. I'd understand if I had long hair. It was literally 3 inches in length MAX when I went in. The positive note was the color turned out decent, but not without burning me, and cutting up my neck. read more

Not to trying to be mean, just level settig expectations. This was a super cuts qualtiy haircut. Nice lady, just not what I was expecting from this kind of place for $30 (which is not too much for a GOOD hair cut) My hair is not blended to a fade. You can clearly see three 'rows' that just show where different guards were used. And the length on top is alll over the place. Not sure if she was going for the shag texture but it was not done with a texture razor; I think its just accidentally uneven. This sounds harsh, and I dont want it to, but this was the exact haircut I would expect at a $10 or $15 strip mall chain. read more

I hadn't gotten a real haircut since COVID. I had trimmed my hair or shaved my head myself. So, I was in Florida for a couple of weeks and decided to give this place a try. It's new and pretty industrial looking inside. I requested a haircut , beard trim and clean up the ear and nose hairs. They suggested waxing for that and I agreed. First order of business was a visit to the fridge for a refreshing adult beverage. I'm liking this place a lot already. Now my haircut and beard trimming. Not a hair out of place! Now I get a wash and razor trim for the back of the neck. All very nice! The waxing was a bit painful but very effective. I highly recommend it. I'm still smooth five weeks out! I signed up for an appointment with the barber who did a pretty poor job. I only realized this when I got home and my hair was all over the place and different length (I will be checking it more carefully while in the shop from now on). So I walked back to fix it, luckily , a wonderful lady April agreed to take me in and fix the haircut from the other barber. It started well, I'm new in town we live right off central, one day on a walk we saw this cool looking barbershop. But don't let the looks fool you, this shop is a wolf in sheeps clothing the barber was not friendly at all (was sitting at the bar like he didn't want to cut) my fiancé told him exactly what he wanted and the barber gave what he thought was best. My fiancé was very unhappy when we left it was un even there where lines everywhere it was not very blended (I am a stylist) and thought it would be a great treat for him but we will definitely not be back. I have been to the Machine Shop four times, each time with a different stylist, and while I have been mostly satisfied with each experience, I haven't been overwhelmed by any of them. My last cut was with Amanda, and while she gave me the best cut so far (it looks pretty good!), she didn't blow me away, either. My biggest beef is that the shampoo should be a good scalp massage. Naturally, I'd be happy with it lasting hours, but I'd like it to be at least 4 or 5 minutes. I've had enough cuts over the years to know the difference between a good one and one where they hurry through it. And while all of them were OK, they all also seemed to be under a time constraint. I suspect that there is a strict time limit for each customer because all of the cut/shampoos have been well short of 20 minutes - usually about 15 or so. Anyway, that's why I took off a star, and I'm still looking for a really great barber shop. As for the rest of the experience: the location is good - right in the middle of the Edge District; the shop has nice decor, comfortable seating, and a free beverage; I've never had to wait for than 5 minutes to start my cut; and the online scheduling is straight-forward and reliable. The basic haircut is $35, and includes the cut, straight razor for the neck, (brief) shampoo/conditioner, and combing with a product, if desired. This is a solid choice, it's just that I'm looking for a place I can really crow about. read more

Nate is excellent, a true artist. This is the only place I've found in town (and I've been to many of them) that actually listens to how I want my beard trimmed, provides suggestions, and does a great job. Many other shops (Shave Cave in particular) consistently just ignore my instructions and cut it too short, which looks wimpy. Glad I finally found a permanent place to go. I have had a love/hate relationship with this place since they opened. Had a few bad haircuts, had a few good haircuts. Thought I found a good barber, only to have him abruptly leave. Tried out various barbers in the area and now back to Machine Shop. I had Matt as my barber today. He was really nice and did an excellent job. Excellent job by Nate on trimming and shaping my beard. For the past 20 years, I have worn a close cropped beard. Since the Covid crisis, I have allowed it to grow out. This is not always the most attractive look with various lengths of growth and thicknesses... Certainly not all uniform and previous attempts to even it up left chunks out of my beard. So I decided I needed a professional. I searched for beard trimming on yelp and found a number of places. I picked the machine shop for two reasons, one I really liked the design concept... Hip but not cliché. I wanted to check that out. My second reason, and more important was that Nate, the gentleman that trimmed my beard, had a beard that was pretty much what I wanted my beard to look like. I must say that the atmosphere and Nate's professionalism made it an excellent experience. For those concerned about Covid, The Machine shop was very careful. Masks were worn by the staff and stations are wiped down afterwards. This is a new shop, with great talent and atmosphere... I hope y'all check it out. read more

I highly recommend Aaron at Machine Shop barbershop if you're looking for a barber in St. Pete. Aaron cut my hair for almost 2 years while I lived in St. Pete and always gave me a perfect cut. He can do just about anything, especially fades. Machine Shop offers beers from local breweries with your service and have reasonable prices. They are located on central so parking is easy and mostly free if you do not see a meter. read more

My boyfriend needed a beer barber so we checked this place out since it's within walking distance of where we live. Aaron is amazing! He did such a great job with my boyfriend's thick head of hair and since they also do women's cuts, I decided to go there myself. My hair was destroyed since I haven't gotten it cut professionally in a few years (just trimming it myself) and I'm thoroughly impressed. It was only $30 for my cut so I will never go to a salon again as long as these guys stick around! This was literally the BEST barber shop experience of my life! I walked in with no appointment (on a weekday) and was seated within five minutes with complimentary cold beer in hand. Aaron was my barber, and he did a fantastic job cutting my hair! The experience included a hot lather trim with single-blade razor, eyebrow trimming, and hot towel placement on the face while getting my hair washed at the end. Aaron's technique with scissors was unlike any I've witnessed before. He gave my hair the perfect texture. I left as a very happy customer. I go to Machine Shop for most of my haircuts and have been for a while. My hair is pretty long & curly, and they usually do a decent job on it. On this particular occasion however, my barber (April I think?) did absolutely horrendously. I told her what I wanted, and she countered it with a vision of her own (okay, this is your profession, so I'll trust your opinion). Long story short, she absolutely botched my hair. Cut it way too short, super uneven, and left the back of my hairline looking like the Saints logo, while leaving a rat-tail (?) but shaving on either side of it (??????). Not too mention that her daughter came in mid-haircut and they conversed and bickered for 15 minutes as I idly sat by and got my dome destroyed for ~$40. I definitely will be thinking about elsewhere next time I get a cut, or will surely not be going in unless my usual barber is there (shoutout Laura for being the bomb). read more
