I had a really relaxing haircut and shave experience with Kyle. He took the time to suggest a style that would suit me well, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. My haircut, beard trim, and shave were all done with great attention to detail--Kyle clearly knows his craft. I also appreciated the extra touches. I left my first review of The Shave Cave just a few days after moving to St. Pete. I've lived in St. Pete for more than 4 years at the time of this updated review, and I still love going there. It's the ONLY barbershop that I've been to since I've moved here. The barbers are all fantastic. The owner, Max, is a great guy. His customer service is the best! Currently, JJ is my barber, and I've been going to him for more than a year now. He gives great haircuts, and he's great to chat with. The amenities at The Shave Cave are the best. Video games, beer, coffee what more do you want while you're waiting to get a haircut. Parking is free, too. read more

Got my first ever mani/pedi. I'm 52. Why did I wait so long? Melody was great. Huge personality. Did a great job. Wanted to also get a shave but the place was packed. So make a reservation! Another nice touch is they serve beer, water, etc. TVs everywhere. I watched Olympic trials for skateboarding. I didn't even know that was in the Olympics. And they sell tons of products for hair and beards. Oh, and the dog is awesome of course. If I lived here this place would be my go to place for sure. Nick had an available slot the next day, and I arrived early to be greeted with a comfortable lounge and offer of a beverage, along with others waiting. Nick greeted me promptly as scheduled and we had a great time chatting about mutual interest in movies, and I also got to meet the owner/entrepreneur Max. Nick did a super job on my aging head, taking time and offering suggestions - I was impressed, and also with the cleanliness, ease of service and welcoming atmosphere. It has been a few years since I last visited.(I live out of town) This Barber provides a classic full service experience. The lounge feels like you are at your own home with a bartender and several great drafts and wines on tap. Everyone is very helpful as well as adding to the positive fun vibe. Jess was my barber and did a great job. Probably one of the closest shaves I have had. Thanks again for the good service. I "dropped" Ben off to cut all cleaned up with his mop that is was rocking. We have events coming up that he needs to look pretty for and no shave November is now over! The place is really nice in design with individual stations that are divided by stained wood half walls. They offer a wide range of services from the haircuts, waxing, nails to hot stone massages. The hair cuts start are $30 but you can also get a membership too. Generally Ben wouldn't pay that much for a haircut but it all depends on what you are used too. That is nothing to my haircuts which take 1/4th of the time to do than his did. LOL I loved that there was a cute dog sleeping in it's bed while the owner was working. I am such a sucker for that. Happy to report that Ben came out looking like a new person all nicely cleaned up with short hair and the beard manicured. read more

If you are a no show they will charge you for your appointment. I checked in at 12:30 with Alex for my 12:50 appointment with Kirsten. It was taking a while, and when I checked the time I realized it was one and asked them if I was still getting my cut. They said she was finishing up with someone. I waited patiently, and when I checked the time it was now 1:10. Nobody was at the front desk so I walked over to Kirstens station only to find that someone else was having their hair cut. Someone else was given my appointment while I was sitting right next to the front desk. There is no other explanation if they are 20-30 minutes. The first desk person was apologetic about it, but it wasted a midday block of my weekend day. Yes it appears like a half hour of time but I left early to get there on time; not to mention I have been going here for over a year. To be honest, I chose this place because of the name. There, I said it. How can you resist?? Especially for me who hasn't been in a barber shop since I was a kid. I've just always shaved my head. I was looking for my first real beard trim, and why not? ok, enough about me. This place has a cool masculine vibe. The barbers were welcoming and friendly, the doggy was friendly and the IPA was cold and welcoming. Shawn trimmed up my wild man beard. I didn't really know what I wanted to do, but a few questions later and Shawn was putting his master barber skills to work. The trim and treatment felt professional and unpretentiously high end. He used a beard balm at the end and as I lie here in bed 4 hours later, I get soft notes of vanilla and tobacco. This stuff smells amazing! It was a great experience. read more

12/29 Update They do get an A for effort and I believe they want to be the upscale barber of choice in the area, but execution and quality issues will need to greatly improve. I had an appointment today at Max's invite to make up for my initial experience. Again, I was happy with the haircut, but couldn't do the shave because I was running late and the shop was too busy to push my appointment 30 mins. Still, I appreciated their efforts to do what they could in the time originally booked. I left feeling good about the haircut until my girlfriend looked at me and had me turn my head back and forth a couple times. My side burns were no where near looking like each other with one being shorter and wider than the narrow longer other side of my head. Wtf!? Back to the shop, I knew they would fix it and it was an honest mistake. So we waited 40 mins after begin told to come back in 20 minutes. Again - wtf?! I liked the barber, he was a good guy and did fix my head, but my time is valuable to me and 1.5 hours for a haircut that would cost $40 isn't premier service at all. I tipped $20 for the no-charge cut and won't be back. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this shop after my 3 visits. I'm done and wish them well. ** 11/24 Update. Max, one of the owners actually reached out to me the evening I posted my initial review. He assured me my experience was not typical, apologized, and offered to make everything right. I've been going to the Shave Cave for haircuts for several months now. You can book your appointment online and it's usually pretty easy to get in. This place has good COVID-19 protocols while taking your temperature, asking you about your health, and having you complete a questionnaire the first time you go. The stylists are friendly and I've had several of them cut my hair. They do a professional job and give you a true barber shop experience. Parking can be a bit tricky but they will validate you parking in the garage. Like many of the newer places, they will also offer you a beer while you are waiting. read more

Great atmosphere and style inside. Nice comfortable leather chairs, big screen TVs, etc. However, not so much testosterone that I would avoid recommending it to women as well. You'll be greeted with a smile and a cold, local craft beer or cider (great ciders!)... if you desire a refreshment (the "Cream and Sugar Please" is actually a really delicious coffee stout - and I don't drink stouts or coffee beers, or at least I thought)! There's a number of Certified Master Barbers to deliver great haircuts (might want to check out their "Team" on the website as some have different specialties that may help guide your decision). It now includes pedicures/manicures and a believe a massage therapist is on the way if not already working there (they seem to be growing quickly. However, I don't think it has been quickly and I take that as a really solid sign because the growth hasn't seemed rushed whatsoever...more just happening organically). I believe the owner is Max, who's always been super friendly towards me and everyone else I see him talk to. As the website clearly states before you schedule an appointment, they just had to raise their prices for the first time in many years (I believe still less than most places downtown!). So, I'm paying a little more than in the past, but the haircuts and the experience are worth it. TBH, I wrote a previous Yelp review when I saw the increased rates and it wasn't very nice. Max promptly replied explaining that years of inflation had passed by but his rates all stayed the same. After reading his calm, respectful reply, I was enlightened to see things from a less ignorant perspective. I was embarrassed to have put down a locally owned business that I believed in, so I immediately deleted my review. I kind of wish I hadn't though, because it also deleted Max's classy reply to my ignorance, including how many years he ate the inflation. It also showed how well he dealt with a customer suddenly becoming a jerk! I owe Max and EVERYONE at the Shave Cave a sincere apology! All of y'all work your butts off and are still always friendly. Let's say for #asian hair or any type of hair that may be a little trickier to cut - you would not think to go to a traditional barbershop. But this is NOT your traditional barbershop - the old boring uptight barbershop has evolved to a new experience that has unique products focused on the self grooming man, along with an incredibly unique experience that focuses on YOU! With complimentary beverages from local breweries, to water, soda and more - comfortable leather couches in an environment that will surely have you lounging and talking with the locals! The best part of the experience are the stylist!! Now keep in mind they do accept walk-ins but also appointments so their schedules fill up and there might be a slight wait without an appointment (strongly suggest appointment). When I was there yesterday - at one point - there was a 30 minute wait - which was perfect! Stylist provide not just your straight edge trimming beard/shave with hot towel treatment (which is awesome - now I don't have a beard but the straight edge shave/clean up is amazing) to a traditional barber cut to the latest trendy styles that only a skilled stylist utilizing a straight edge could create! Everyone is excellent but Kristen has a way with attention to not only detail but will get to know you and what you're looking first before a strand of hair is cut! A modern, upscale barber shop with talented, professional barbers. I've been a Shave Cave client for ~7 years, since they first opened. I have been happy with all of the barbers in the shop over the years. Great atmosphere. I look forward to shooting the breeze with these folks every couple weeks while I get my ears lowered. Superlative experience. My barber, Matt, spent a good hour providing me my first straight edge shave. The man took his time, professional and obviously very skilled. Zero cuts and I smell great (the black pepper rum aftershave is where it's at). As other users have commented, the grounds are decidedly male. Local SP brewery is on tap, along with candy, misc carbonated beverages, magazines, charging stations and TVs. Think refined hangout versus exclusive club. Max, one of the owners, is simply awesome.
