Pleasantly surprised from this Pub. It's tucked away in a small strip but it doesn't seem to be a secret. Plenty of folks enjoying an afternoon of social time and enjoying good food and drink. My mother-in-law has been raving about Mackey's for quite some time now. She treated me to dinner last night at Mackey's and I see now why she frequents this neighborhood bar. This no-frills bar is perfect for those that just want to hang out and eat good food. I haven't been to a low-key bar like this before and I loved it. Everyone knows each other and they're all just out for a nice time out. It is an older group, definitely a local's place. There's one pool table that's coin operated if you want to play a round. They also offer karaoke if you're brave enough. Our waiter was awesome, super easy going and nice. Not to mention, he brought me a second tea before I was halfway done with my other one! That right there is an immediate extra star on my review. We all ordered hamburgers. I had the candied bacon and jalapeño cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. It was delicious! I can't believe I've been in WF for almost 3 years and have never tried Mackey's but I will definitely be back. If you want a good dinner with a relaxed atmosphere, Mackey's is a great choice. Mackey's is a very solid neighborhood pub. We went for a late dinner and were pleasantly surprised. I had the half rack of pork ribs that were delightfully tender and delicious in their own, and came with a very good sauce, side salad, and a side. Wife had the burger and she enjoyed it. They have a good selection of beers, a nice bar selection, and our servers were both very friendly and personable. There's a small pool table and a couple of dart boards, if you're looking for that kind of thing. And they have about a dozen tvs playing everything from sports to old movies. All in all a good spot. I've been coming to Mackey's for about a year now. My mother-in-law lives in Wake Forest. I stopped in and enjoyed a burger and fries the first time. I came back for karaoke on Saturday nights, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very diverse and eclectic atmosphere. Mixed drinks are really good. Hard to find bartenders that came make an "Old Fashioned" properly. Not here. Stop in and at least give them a try. They are worth the stop. Try the burgers. You will not be disappointed! They have an "AMI" jukebox that can be controlled by downloading an app on your phone. read more

Wife had the salmon and I had the "kitchen sink" which is a little of everything on a flatbread . Both were delicious, but I would probably get the salmon on our next visit. The kitchen sink was more food than I would normally eat. Pricing is reasonable, around $32 for both of us. read more

My family gave this a try. We are always hopeful to try something new in Wake Forest. Once again, though we were disappointed. The menu promotes a kids menu and looks like it should be a family friendly pub, but it was nothing close to a family friendly pub. It was 5:30pm and the people at the bar were already drunk, loud and obnoxious. Dropping the f-bomb every other sentence. Everyone was yelling and screaming at Keno. I don't know what that is but I assume it is some kind of lottery gambling. If you want to be a dive bar, be that. Put a sign on the outside that says 18 and over permitted or 21 and over permitted and get rid of the kids menu. Pick your poison. As for the food. The cheese fries were actually really good. The chicken tenders were above average. The wings however were awful. The buffalo sauce was just way to salty and I love salt. Also the sauce didn't adhere to the wings properly and ended up being dry. Maybe breading them might help get better adhesion for the sauce type. Anyway we won't be back. read more

Date night with my husband was going well until "Fred" showed up. Fred's brother "George" met an unceremonious end when another patron at the bar noticed him crawling on the bar and the bar tender quickly squished "George". We had already eaten our food so we promptly paid left. Reenactments of the Crying Game shower scene ensued when we made it home, thankfully clean pajamas and whiskey and saved the date night. We are not asking for anything other than this issue be addressed to prevent the community from getting sick and hopefully it has not spread to the restaurants on either side of Mackey's. read more
