We tried Pat Murnane's last night and we were all pleasantly surprised. It was a Saturday night around 6:45 PM and we expected the place to be packed, but it wasn't. The bar area (with plenty of tables for dining) was packed and looked cozy, but the main dining area is huge and had only a few tables in use. We questioned our restaurant choice, but decided to keep an open mind and give it a try. We are so glad we did! The food was really good. Nice presentation and clearly, whoever prepared it is truly passionate about their job. The portions are large, so expect leftovers. We ordered a fried shrimp appetizer (similar to bang bang shrimp) and a chicken quesadilla as starters. Each could have been a meal on its own and both were delicious. (It's typical bar food - but done well.) For our main dishes we ordered Shepherds Pie (server's recommendation and favorite menu item ), Northern Fish Fry (cod); and a simple cheeseburger with bacon.. everything was tasty, nicely prepared, and again...large portions. The Shepherds Pie came with fresh steamed veggies that were wonderful and a nice surprise. *Note that cod is the Northern Fish Fry- but they also offer a catfish version. The wine was 50% off both by the glass and bottle, I believe that is their typical Saturday drink special. They have a prime rib special on Saturdays as well that is supposedly delicious, and served only until they run out. There is an 8oz or 12oz option. The server was fantastic as well. She was very attentive, knew the menu, and clearly enjoys her job. What more can you ask for? Prices: Our total bill (before tip) was $127 which included a couple drinks from the bar for each of us. The dinners we ate ranged from $16-$20. The starters were a bit pricey (~$18 for the quesadillas) but again, it was meal size and truly delicious. If you are hungry for a burger or typical Irish bar food, then give this place a try. Hopefully you'll have an experience similar to ours! (Our server was home from college for the holidays, so hopefully the rest of the staff is equally attentive.) read more

Ordered burger, chicken sand and corned beef. Burger came with onions after asking for no onions. Corned beef was so tough I had to saw through it with a steak knife. Potatoes, carrots and cabbage cooked proper. read more

Stopped for lunch today. This was our first visit. The inside was very clean including the restrooms. Service was prompt. I ordered a Buffalo chicken sandwich and my wife had a Turkey Panini. The Turkey Panini, steak fries and the sweet potato fries were very good. Unfortunately the Buffalo Chicken sandwich was undercooked and raw in the middle, after cutting it in half. They were apologetic and kind enough to remove it from our check and re-make it to go. Unfortunately the second attempt was not good. It was over way cooked to the point of being inedible. The roll was grilled and burnt as was the chicken. Having been a cook in college it appears the frying oil is not being changed as it should be. it was a very disappointing experience so we won't be back. read more

First time to this local spot. Really good food, quick service. Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Business slow on this holiday weekend, only half a dozen diners. Service was friendly, efficient and quick. Tried the Bavarian pretzel as a appetizer. The pretzel is ENORMOUS! Freah and hot from the oven with just the right amount of salt. Served with a cup of white melted cheese for dipping. Yum! Also tried a reuben. Freshly sliced and perfectly prepared corned beef topped with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and slathered with thousand island dressing served on grilled rye. This is not your sliced deli meat corned beef.... This is long simmered, lean and luscious corned beef. REALLY good. read more

This is an underrated place to eat. Yes it's a pub and maybe also a carpeted restaurant (can we make this not a thing?) but the food is absolutely delicious! I'm sad they took away the pico appetizer, we would go just for that and some take away, very few places so fresh pico around here! The drinks are strong as you would expect and service is super quick (with the right bartender). We enjoy frequenting this nearby spot! We love the digital jukebox where you can pick songs without leaving your drink behind :). But beware, do not pick Christmas songs during the holiday or they will simply delete your selection and complain to their regulars. You are a mean one Ms Grinch. read more

Very underrated place for quality food and a good pub atmosphere. The owners are clearly not mailing it in as many bars do with regard to food. They have a slight tweak on all your staples that beni fit the dish. It's also refreshing to be in a purpose made restaurant as most places in North Raleigh are jammed into a strip mall. They do need a better variety of food. Like potato skins. A combo platter. An actual French dip with real au jus, if you order a salad from the salad bar, a chance to order a protein. Shrimp cocktail, Pizza by the slice. Something different and better specials. Prime Rib on Wednesday and Saturday or Tuesday and Saturday. read more

Food was really good. Had Shepard pie which I haven't had anywhere in a few years. Was very pleased. Tasted fresh and well prepared. The salad bar was huge so added that to try since it's been ages since we've seen such a complete salad and soup bar. It turned out to be pleasant surprise at just how much they offer and the freshness seemed better than many other salad bars which we tend to avoid. This was our first visit in their new location. The dining room is spacious and bright and comfortable. I got the same thing as I always get, the Reuben sandwich with onion rings. Score. Delicious. The location may have changed but this is hands down the best Reuben around. I like everything about it. The bread is delicious and stands up to the thousand island dressing, the meat to sauerkraut thousand island dressing is perfect. And the corned beef is not fatty, just delicious. Good 'ole Pat Murnanes!! We definitely miss Arie behind the bar! That said, this new soup & salad bar is where it's at! Loved the clam chowder and my boss really liked the broccoli cheddar soup. Typical salad bar with lots of fixin's. Pasta salad bar was awesome, Ruby Tuesdays had my most favorite pasta salad.... Speaking of RT, PM has a yummy orzo pasta salad that's this close to as good! Quinoa salad needed a touch of flavor (chef-use a squeeze of lemon & zest, and a dash of S&P ). I heard they switch out the soups and the gumbo is delish! Where's the pizza bar?!?! I was honestly disappointed with my visit here. I love Irish pubs and have never had a bad experience at one...until this visit. We went on a Friday night but the entire restaurant was empty...some people at the bar and on the other side, only one booth taken. We were greeted by the host and was told to be patient as it was our waiter's first day. A family say behind us about 10 minutes later and we're immediately greeted by their waitress...and we were still waiting on ours. We had plenty of time to choose our drinks and food while we waited for our waiter to come by. He was a nice guy but super awkward. We ordered our drinks and we're about to order our food with it but he just walked away. Another 15 minutes of waiting. By that time, the table behind us had already gotten their drinks and ordered their food (and their food came out before we even ordered ours). We came by our table a total of three times within and hour and a half (to ask for our drinks, food, and for the bill). No one was helping our waiter and it was extremely slow service. We didn't get water with our Crown Royal tea and we're never offered a second round. Food was okay, nothing outstanding. Weird to put crackers inside of bread for dipping into spinach and artichoke dip. Everything was hot which was nice but it didn't have that Irish pub feel at all. It was very generic recipes. Atmosphere was as if Denny's tried to be Irish for a day. The music was all over the place...some Flogging Molly (which I was very happy about), some AJR, got some pop music in there, and a few country songs. This is not a very good Irish pub across the board...food, atmosphere, decor...it's rough. I wish I had the 4 or 5 star experience everyone else is having but I definitely did not. read more

I tried this place on a whim because it had decent reviews. We had called a couple other pubs in wake forest but everywhere we tried had a long wait, until we got to Pat Murnane's. Unfortunately the service was extremely slow, despite only a couple other tables in the restaurant being occupied. The waiter would disappear for long stretches of time and after finally ordering, it took way too long for our food to come, with our appetizer being brought out at the same time as the entree. The food was fine, but pretty disappointing compared to other pubs in the area. We were originally presented with a menu of the daily specials, before they pointed out how the majority weren't available. I purchased two entrees, fish and chips and Shepherds pie since I couldn't decide between the two so I basically spent 42.00 for dinner. I figured I'd eat the fish on the way home since the pie would reheat better. The fish was beer battered which I've had before. It tasted like it must have been dipped in mustard to hold the batter. I hate mustard and I've work in restaurants and felt that should have been mentioned in the description. I took the Shepherds pie out of the bag and even though it looked kind of skimpy in the container it did look good. When I picked it up liquid mashed potatoes, dripped all over the place. I went back inside and asked for them to repackage it. They came out with it all mixed up in a Chinese type pint container. So much for looks(and size). It cost $19.00 for a pint of shepherds pie. I would love to say that I hated it, but it was actually Good. Would I go back? Absolutely not for take out. read more

I posted a positive review several months ago and I don't know what has changed but I would not recommend eating here. We received cod that was suspect and the server admitted there has been complaints. They did offer to replace this and so we opted for a Shepard's pie but this was not even close to the Shepard's pie we have enjoyed in the past. We were told the manager would talk to us before we left but this never happened. I hope that they get the issues with the food and chef straightened out soon. read more

We went there last Tuesday to grab dinner after a battery fiasco involving my wife's car . Auto Zone was right down the street and we decided to check this place out after picking up a car battery. This place reminds me of several restaurants on Staten Island that serve Irish comfort food and bar fare. There was a poker tournament (legal ) going on in the party room and there was a nice crowd at the bar and in the dining room for a Tuesday night. The waitress was a young girl who admitted that she was new and didn't know the beer list very well. Hey that's fine because the beer lists in places have gotten expansive over the years with the craft beer boom. I chose wrong anyway and got a shot of Casker's Stout Reserve whisky instead of a stout beer. Yep left the glasses home. It was fine the shot went down nicely and I chased it with a Pepsi. I ordered the Bangers and Mash with mixed vegetables and it was delicious. My wife opted for the Buffalo Chicken salad and kiddo got a pub burger and onion rings. And yes I stole a few of those. Both of them enjoyed their entrees very much. I forgot to add that we had the crab cake bites as an appetizer and I have to say they were spot on. I got a flyer in the mail advertising "The Best Salad Bar in the Carolinas." I was very excited as it boasted over 60 items including homemade soups etc. Sadly, I was very, very disappointed. I counted 33 items which is half of what is advertised. The soups were bland. The salad choices poor. At $18.99, you would be much better served enjoying the salad and hot buffet at Milton's or the awesome salad bar at Jason's Deli. read more
