Mackle Park was named in honor of Frank E. Mackle Jr. (1916-1993). Mackle was a developer who had previously developed Key Biscayne with his brothers. Frank arrived in what was then a primitive Marco Island in 1962 and saw potential in the undeveloped town. He was soon joined in the venture by his brothers, Elliott and Robert. All of the brothers were engineers and were employed by the Deltona Corporation founded by their father. Frank became the President of the Deltona Corporation and led the modernization of Marco Island. Mackle Park is impressive as it has everything that residents and visitors to Marco Island could want in outdoor recreation. The park has a community center with teen center, basketball court, bocce courts, open field area for play, picnic area, shuffleboard courts, a soccer/football field, volleyball court, and splash pad. One of the standout feature of the park is the creative playground that is a hit with kids. It has a pirate ship, castle turrets, and lots of places to climb and engage in imaginative play. My favorite part of the park is the beautifully landscaped walking path that winds around the lake. A sign at the entrance to the trail shows how you can increase the half mile walk around the lake to .9 miles by incorporating walking the perimeter of the fields in the back of the park. It is perfect for a leisurely stroll or a more vigorous jog. The lake is also a great place to bird watch and fish. Mackle Park has something for everyone. It offers a blend of recreational facilities and natural beauty that makes it a must-visit for anyone in the area. It is a beautiful park. Has many wonderful things to do for all ages. Canine Park has two separate areas for small dogs and large dogs. Poorly maintained, broken parts of equipment (xylophone and Simon says game), spiders above the swings, moldy swing chairs, lots of mosquitoes and trash throughout the park. Park has a ground of dirt (mostly) and mulch but my daughter shoes and legs end up dirty every time we visit. Parks in Naples are much nicer because of the rubber grounds. Splash pad is broken more often than it's working. read more

The new community center and grounds offer everything from bocci to a an awesome kids area with a water feature. It Marco Island's Central Park without the smog! There are various community events held each month at the community center. This park is awesome! The kids cove playground is one of the coolest playgrounds I've seen. My two-year-olds spent the majority of their time at the splash pad, which was great, but I wish it had a rubber surface. Many kids took spills on the concrete which resulted in some tears. If ever there was a meaning of the word hidden gem this would be it. Located in the middle of a residential neighborhood the park is far enough away from the hyper beach resorts yet close enough to walk to. There are lots of the usual park activities such as a playground, basketball, shuffle board, and walking paths. A dog park is also near by. The best is the huge pond with a walking path around it. Lots of wild birds swim around this pond and make it a calm, peaceful place to walk. This might be one of the best parks I've ever been to and I always stop by when in the area. read more

One word - WOW! If you are visiting Marco Island and you have kids (any age), BRING THEM HERE. This is probably one of the most well-done, well-built, well-thought-out parks I've ever been to in my life, if not THE best. - Basketball courts for the older kids - even one that's completely under cover with bleachers and all. - A big huge jungle jim area for the teens/pre-teens/and toddlers. - A splash zone area with water shooting up everywhere for the younger kids. - An enormous soccer field to kick/throw a ball or frisbee, fly a kite, etc. - Two billiards tables inside, along with two ping-pong tables, a foosball table, and a large gynmastics area for jumping around. Clean bathrooms, great staff on site, and just a great time for people of all ages. You have to stop here if you have a hole in your day you want to fill. read more

My husband and I took our two boys, 4 and 2 years old, to the play ground and to have their snack. Very large playground area that both boys were able to navigate well with some help for the two year old on the larger play area. They have a fenced off playground for toddlers that is almost as large as the older child playground. The entire playground area is encircled by a sturdy fence which put my mind at ease while the boys were playing. Two swing sets for bigger kids and little kids ensured that there were enough baby swings available. We used one of the many picnic tables in the shade that were available. The park also had a full basketball court, soccer field walking path around the fields, volleyball court, and younger kid sports area (contained small basketball net, tetherball, hopscotch). Restroom and on the outside of the community center building was very clean. Plenty of parking. read more

Filled with kids trying to make the best of it but no sprinkler park and no open rest room facilities . Bad form and a bit lazy on the town's part IMHO. This quaint park is great for little kids! First plus, it is open to the public and free of charge. It also has a small water play area for toddlers as well as a big playground area with an are for little ones and bigger kids. For the teens and adults it has a covered terrace basketball court as well as a walking trail with lots of grass area. I wish we had this park back at home. So much to do and hours of fun for a two year old, as well as adults. Splash pad, basketball courts, shuffleboard, bocce, giant playground with swings and a separate toddler area, giant soccer fields and a large pond with a walking path. You can even catch and release. This local park/community center has been in town for 20 yrs + and has always been a wonderful experience! The community center has just been updated with a modern entry, and has MANY clean, modern, women (and men) bathroom stalls - hooray! There are many community activities from independent teachers and the typical entry price is between $10-15 for those extra events. The park is free and offers so many fun activities. My favorite aspect of the park, which is for free...is the walking/jogging/running path around a man-made lake that is the home for many birds and a center fountain. I love this path and feels good to be outside for a light jog. If you have a dog, all sizes are welcomed! There are two designated dog park areas too (big and small) with picnic benches for the humans, while the dogs have fun in an enclosed space. Other amenities, which I have not experienced, but know about, are the shuffle board courts, basketball courts, and soccer fields. read more

This is the GREATEST kids park ever! If you are bringing kids to Marco Island, you must take them here! It's free, it's immaculate, there's a splash park (bring a suit for the littles!), two separate playscapes (one for younger and one for older kids), basketball courts, balls to check out for free, tetherball, etc. etc. etc. We stayed on Marco for a week and went nearly every day with our 22 month old son.
