The breakfast sandwich is delicious, and my friend also loved her grilled chicken sandwich. It's quite pricey here so that's the only negative. Otherwise, it's cute inside and they have a solid menu. There's limited seating indoors but there's a bench outside and you can of course walk around to find other cute benches too. We didn't wait too long for our food to be ready and we also each got a chocolate chip cookie which was delicious. read more

This place is the definition of an actual Mac-FAIL. I went here with my family trying to get a quick bite to eat. We thought this would be a good option because there was no line, but little did we know we had been fooled. We simply ordered 2 grill cheeses and they took 35 minutes and gave us no fore warning. The food was definitely not worth the wait. My other group with me also ordered and their food took so long that we had to leave and get a refund because it took 40 minutes to make a hot dog and cheeseburger. Delicious lobster roll. Amazing flavor. Big chunks of lobster. Sticker shock at $32 for 1 sandwich (I've been away from New England for many years) but what else can you expect on the island?! Best and LARGEST lobster roll on the island. Hefty warm roll filled with chilled, large chunks of lobster salad. So amazing I wanted to go back for another. MacPhails is a small, casual spot but don't look past it! They serve breakfast and lunch all day as well as coffee and pastries. The breakfast burrito was amazing, it had tater tots, eggs, bacon, and avocado. Lobster roll had a lot of meat in it. Prices are not bad for being in Martha's Vineyard. Nice and air conditioned inside. Some indoor and outdoor seating. Wasn't too crowded when I came but there was a line when we were leaving. This used to be one of my favorite places to go to. Every year I would look forward to this place opening for the season. I went there on Sept 2nd, 2022, around 8 am, for a breakfast sandwich. There was no line at all. Sadly this place has gone downhill. I ordered an egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel, and my mum ordered a sausage egg and cheese. When I got home, upon opening the sandwich, I thought they had accidentally given both of us a sausage egg and cheese. I am plant-based, so I gave it to someone else in my home to eat, but they realized that the egg was burnt to the point that it looked like a sausage. I'm disappointed to say that Macphail's has gone downhill. A burnt egg should have never been placed on this sandwich. Instead, I will recommend Rosewater on Water St. it's open year-round and so far has not disappointed. read more

One of the best lobster rolls I've had in a while. This little shop on the corner has a small but great menu of lobster roll, burger, popcorn chicken, hot dog and chicken sandwich. We ordered two lobster rolls and they were delicious. Lobster was slightly shredded and was mixed with light mayo. We arrived on a Saturday around 2:30p and we were lucky enough to get the last two. They ran out of lobster for the next customer. Would definitely recommend getting in early for a lunch! read more

The breakfast burrito with the thousand island sauce (aka MacPhail's sauce- you have to ask them to add it) is literally the best on the island, cannot recommend enough. Apparently they have other good food as well but they could have a one item menu and it would still be worth it. Seating is serviceable but there isn't a ton and the outside isn't in the shade, so maybe grab something here and walk somewhere else nearby. read more

We hit this place up upon arriving on the island. You would expect at 12:30 that there would be a line out the door, but there was none even though the street was bustling with activity. The lobster roll is excellent, albeit on the high side on cost; but what can you expect on the island. The cheeseburger was very tasty according to the kids. Veggieburger, also good. Lunch entrées are accompanied by mixed greens with balsamic which is a nice, light seaside accompaniment. We stumbled upon this place by accident but I'm really glad we did! My friends and I ordered lobster rolls (~$22 each) and they were amazing!!! Location of this place is fantastic and the aesthetic is pleasing. However, the prices are really jacked up considering the size of the portions compared to other restaurants in the area. I ordered the lobster rolls and they claim to be the best but they clearly are not. My wife and I tried lobster rolls from four different places on the island and I would say that this one is either third or fourth out of four. Overall I probably would not return to this location specifically for their food but it would also not be the last place that I would go to. read more

After getting off the ferry from a great afternoon beaching at Chappy and touring the gardens on the island we found this place. We all bought lobster rolls and it was a magical end to our day. So I went to MacPhrails to purchase a cinnamon roll, pay cash the counter Clerk took my cash , gave me my change then she held my food with her hand, when I ask if that's is my food and why is she holding it without a gloves or paper? Did a little Edgartown exploring a few weeks ago. Breakfast and coffee being a big deal to me had me hunting down a good place for a quick bite with good coffee. I'll say this place had a decent breakfast sandwich and an okay iced coffee. This spot is great! My family and I were in the Vineyard, an needed a quick and easy place to eat. We came to this place, and it was amazing! My brother and I both got breakfast burritos- THEY WERE AMAZING- my mom got a veggie burger, and my dad got a hot dog. They both said that they were one of the best they've ever had. We went back for a second time two days later, and again, it didn't fail us. I tried the hot dog (SO GOOD.) We had a good experience there. My daughter chose this location and we were not disappointed. Everything was hot and freshly cooked. My daughter raved about the hot dog and the way the bun was toasted. My wife had the egg sandwich which was a bit of a disappointment but still tasted fine. Overall, it is a place I would go back to, so they get a solid 4 stars. read more

And it was PACKED when I visited, so I had high hopes. Unfortunately, the food and drinks were a major letdown. I ordered the breakfast bowl, and for the price, it tasted like a pretty basic microwave meal. The eggs had that watery/sweaty texture you get from reheated food, the sausage tasted like a microwaved frozen patty, and I'm pretty sure the salsa was straight out of a Pace/Tostinos jar. Even the jalapeños were the pickled kind rather than fresh. For the price point, I expected something fresher and more thoughtfully prepared. I also ordered a shaken espresso, specifically because I wanted something coffee-forward with just a little milk. Instead, mine was overwhelmingly milky and barely tasted like espresso. Definitely not what I was hoping for. One other thing that really bothered me was the setup around the utensils -- the straws and forks were positioned right next to what appeared to be dirty/used water from the sanitation area. It just wasn't particularly appetizing or confidence-inspiring. I'm honestly surprised this place has such a strong local following because the experience just didn't live up to the hype for me. The garden is lovely and the atmosphere has potential, but at these prices, I expect significantly better food, drinks, and attention to cleanliness.

We were passing by and hadn't even committed to eating here when Mihaela, the Front of House Manager, greeted us with the most infectious, bubbly energy and convinced us to come in for dinner. BEST. DECISION. EVER. The food was amazing. The drinks were great. The service was wonderful. Ivona took great care of us, but Mihaela truly made the entire experience. Her personality is EVERYTHING -- warm, light, bubbly, hilarious, welcoming and just genuinely kind. She checked on us, made us feel completely at home, and somehow even ended up making a special playlist for us. From there, it was OVER. We were vibing, singing, eating and drinking all night. That's hospitality. There are plenty of places where you can get good food, but it's rare to encounter someone who can completely change the energy of your evening just by being herself. Mihaela did exactly that. We walked in as customers and left feeling like we'd been hanging out with friends all night. 10/10 experience. Give Mihaela a raise, a bonus, a vacation, SOMETHING.
