With Covid-19 spreading, rapidly, you would think this establishment would adhere to its own protocol and mandate mask wearing but it doesn't. They have a "Mask mandate" sign on the door, and a customer counter, but they are not enforced. When ever I stop in on either a Saturday or Sunday morning, I have to wrestle through 6 to 7 guys, who aren't wearing mask and are gawking at the attendant, in order to get what I need. The other day, I witnessed a female, whose Covid-19 contraction was well known, but she was allowed to shop and frequent Maplefields while under a 14 day quarantine. Now, it was said one of the attendants contracted Covid-19 and my family may have to quarantine because of it. This Maplefields really needs to step up its game. While most of the attendants are very nice, the Covid-19 protocols are NOT being followed by the "regulars" and and are being looked over by the attendant(s). Customers are being placed in danger each and every time they enter the store because of their negligence to adhere to the mask mandate. My advice.... Stay away from this store until they (and the local objectifiers) can properly follow the Covid-19 guidelines, unless you want to potentially be exposed. You would figure in such a small town people would have respect for one another and follow the rules to lessen the spread. Not this place!

I never did, but I happened…read moreto hear about Stewart's Shops when researching what to do in Vermont, so I figured we had to try one out. I gather they began in Saratoga Springs, NY, and moved into Vermont, as well. We tried this one across the street from the Saratoga Springs Hilton where we stayed, and it was very clean inside (according to my husband who went inside). I had also read they have terrific ice cream, so guess what, we tried some. I stupidly left it up to my husband to "surprise me," and while they are known for amazing flavor choices, and thinking he KNOWS how I like unusual and interesting flavors, he walks out with a mix of vanilla and chocolate. Are you kidding me? It was especially difficult for me to keep my mouth shut because I was pissed off, but he was kind enough to get it for me and bring it out, so I could just wait in the car. I have to say, though, I quickly went from anger at the boring ice cream flavors to extreme enjoyment because it was some of the BEST vanilla and chocolate ice cream I had ever eaten. Truly delicious. I was definitely thinking we'd get some different flavors at other Stewart's Shops in the ensuing days of our travels, but as many as we ended up seeing along our way, we never did stop at any. Don't know why, but we didn't, and so, this was our only time to enjoy their wonderful ice cream !! Next time we are in the area of a Stewart's Shop, I will make sure we can get more ice cream. Of all the Stewarts in downtown Saratoga, this is my favorite. It's bigger inside, which makes more…read moreroom for additional shelving of junk food. The ceilings are high and the parking lot is shaded, giving it an oddly stately ambience. And it's less crowded so more chance to grab a seat when I come in for my deli dogs. (though there's also less seating... minus one star for that.) If you're in town for a convention, go across the street and savor a scoop of local history. Stewart's headquarters is nearby in Greenfield, and the Dake family is a big supporter of local groups and activities.

There is something very satisfying about a small town convenience store's. Watching men young and old hold open the door for ladies, smelling the coffee and ever cooking hot dogs on the roller grill shows small town life for what it is: families, people living together in harmony. Today's feature was freshly made apple fritters. Coupled with a handmade chocolate milk shake, life is good. The store holds basics for life: bread, eggs, milk, soda, beer, soups and other canned goods as well as all sorts of ice cream and frozen treats. There is little that can be needed, from matches to mustard, that the store doesn't have. Outside the gas pumps are humming while customers in transit replenish treats for their trip. I appreciate the presence of this store and highly recommend stopping in whenever one is in Arlington.
