There was a Facebook ad for Macy's having a free makeup bag and cosmetics when you spend $37. This does not take long to spend as Clinique is so overpriced. I rarely need eye makeup or other makeup as I work primarily from home. The purple eyeshadow has been discontinued. They had a crayon type one but I didn't like the other pink color. I splurged and bought a 4 pack of eyeshadow as the purple was on it with silver, black and white useless eye shadow colors. Was able to get 2 more free gifts. Staff person was nice. Bummed they discontinued purple as I get compliments on it. read more

Over a decade ago, I used to shop at Macy's often. I loved Style and Co.'s line of clothing. To this day, I have a handful of pieces that I still wear. When I bought them, I barely fit into them. Now, they fit like they should! A couple of years ago, I loved looking at the Kipling handbags section. On this trip, I am using three different Kipling bags. I changed my game to include a backpack as my carry-on item and got a lovely compliment on how vibrant the purple colour was by a fellow passenger. After having some lunch in Burnsville a few days ago, I drove around and spotted this Macy's at Burnsville Center. I hadn't been to a Macy's store in over two years and felt that it was time. I parked in front of this store. There was plenty of parking. I was closest to the mattress department. It was tempting to take a nap here! Sadly, the purse section did not have Kipling. How disappointing! You can still get Kipling merchandise off Macy's online site. It had Saks and a few other brands that didn't speak to me at this sstore. There was a table with discounted prices on purses, so that sale was encouraging. I ended up in the last-chance clothing section on the second floor, close to the women's washroom. I saw a nice zippered hoodie from Tommy Hilfiger. I tried it on and it fit. It was 70% off. The problem? It didn't have pockets. All my hoodies have pockets. Is it so bad in this world that we are skimping on pockets now?! Sadly, I put this pocketless hoodie back on the rack. Bummer. I need pockets. The only Tommy HIlfiger items that I own are ankle socks. I loved the Christmas ornaments here. The food-themed ones caught my attention. Who doesn't need a shiny hamburger ornament on their Christmas tree, right? My experience was fine as a browsing customer. However, if I were determined to get Kipling items, I would have been disappointed. I am glad that this store is still alive and kicking, though. So far this week I met Lynn at the Lancôme area and Paula at the ester lauder area . Both times each lady make me feel welcome . Both ladies so helpful and with an amazing smile at all times . I went to the Southdale mall macys and the treatment was something else , I will never go back to that location . We should welcome every guest as equals no matter what they look like or what they wear . I work customer service and have a smile for each of my customers and always are willing to help with any issues that they bring to my attention . I came here to return an online purchase. I love buying online; I kind of avoid stores if possible. But I'm cheap and I don't want to pay return shipping. So, here I am. The return process was seamless. I had my box and the return slip, and the lady was super fast - I was done in under a minute! I shopped the store a bit. For looks, it's like the rest of Burnsville Center - dark, needs to be redone. Except for the furniture area, which is new, and nice. If I were needing a sofa, I might stop here. read more

Every time I visit the store, the staff is helpful and service is good. They have been shorter of staff in recent years, but so has everywhere. Given the strain retail has been under, the selection has been pretty decent, and you can get anything online they don't have in hand. The sales at Macys are always good. It's definitely one of my two go-to department stores, and I'm so glad they are finding a way to navigate this difficult retail environment! read more

I don't shop there often. 2 weeks ago i went to buy b-day present for my wife. Had worst experienceexperience. in perfume dept looking for help. Waited 45 mins!! The "I'll be with u in a moment. .." is the only service u will get. Theres only 1 lady helping 7 customers, and 1 lady that only sells clinigue brand. Best they could do is fetch me a young kid from men's clothes dept! Asked for perfume recommendation, "..they're all good." Ok. I ask, How much is this bottle?... goes away to check price with the 1 lady who already busy and can't help. Waited 10+ mins, then i walked to the men's suits dept. Asked to speak to the mgr. I'm giving this store four stars only because of a recent excellent customer service experience. I'll be honest, I typically avoid Macy's these days because I find the clothing racks overfull and disorganized, the fitting rooms packed with discarded potential outfits and the checkout counters understaffed. However, recently I bought a dress for a wedding. I wore it for about eight hours and was happy with it until the next day when I realized there were little pulls all over the bodice fabric and that I'd never be able to wear it again. I hadn't done anything to warrant that (promise!) and was sorely disappointed because I'm on a limited budget and the dress was not cheap. Brought it back to the store with my receipt, showed the cashier the dress and explained I'd worn it once and it held up terribly, and she let me return it for a full refund with no hassle whatsoever. I have to appreciate a store that will at least stand behind the products they sell and not try to badger customers or make them jump through hoops to make a needed return. read more

Is ther a zero rating?? This place is a dive. I am surprised it is open. The employees don't seem like they even want to be there. The management must either not care or is non-existant. The energy in the store is brought down by the people that work there. There are a lot of older people that work there and you would think after their many years there, they would know about the products or sales but they don't. We interacted with several people in the store and there was only 1 with a good attitude that was willing to help. Others even bad mouthed the company... really? They are not very good on giving discounts or sales. They are good at posting sale signs that only apply to half of the rack but the items that you want are on the non-sale side, you bring it up to the register and you think you are getting a discount and point out the sign but find out that you were bamboozled. Not a good way to do business. This store is a mess, dirty, clothes thrown around and on the floor. Nothing is presented well. I couldn't wait to get out of this place. Now I only stop in to pay the bill and get reminded why I don't shop there anymore. read more

I'm one of those people who firmly believes Macy's is one of the circles of hell, wedged right between the Whole Foods in St. Paul and the food at P.F. Chang's. That was, until I entered the Macy's in the Burnsville Mall. It was then that I realized Macy's pretty much owns hell and just rents the extra space out. They look like they are going out of business and, don't worry, the employees here are just as mean and preoccupied as they are at the other locations. Actually, let me rephrase that - they take the idea of a Macy's employee, throw it on it's ass and then stomp all over it. I was actually ignored completely (and I was about to-gasp-spend 1/4 of my paycheck on a purse) by two employees who were deep in conversation UNTIL a nicely dressed older woman stood right next to me. They actually came to life and asked her if she wanted help. I had spent way too much time being passed over and took that as my cue to leave. Who even does that anymore? Most malls are completely dead because of the economy and, if I'm oohing and aahing over some overpriced dead cow with a strap attached to both ends, it would be a good idea to blow some smoke up my ass in hopes that I hand over my credit card instead of acting like I'm some germ-infested bum who just took a dump on your dirty carpet. So, congrats to you, Macy's Corporation. You truly are awful. read more

I ordered an item online for in store pick up. The sales associate swiped my drivers license to pick up the order. This is totally un called for. I do not put my personal information out there. This was important to me and didn't seem to matter to anyone. I also stood inline to try on dresses. Not worth it. I'll stay with Nordstrom who treats customers well. I'll pay the extra. I like to shop at Macys because I do like their clothes selection and they always have good clearance. But, it really is to bad that a higher end store like this does not take very much pride in customer service. Rarely do I ever get greeted and even more rare do I get asked if I need help! What made me finally want to write a review about this Macys is the other day I was looking to buy a new watch. I was there at least 10min looking through the cases and started to notice that no one has bothered to come offer help. I looked around and there were 3 employees over in another counter doing a whole lot of nothing. I made eye contact with the male and he did not acknowledge the fact they maybe I wanted assistance and just looked away! WTF really?? Since when working in a department store put you at a higher level of class?? I mean really.. your job does not require an education and I know you making 9 bucks an hour does not make you richer than me either. errr! read more

I work in this mall. I attended a mall Christmas party where I won a $10 gift card to Macy's. To be honest. I wasn't super excited because I never shop there. I just so happen to get a new job outside of retail and decided I needed to update my wardrobe to be more professional, first stop Macy's to spend that gift card. I found almost $80 worth of work attire. I ended up wanting to return a pair of pants. The woman who did the return for me was very rude right off the bat. She told me she doesn't do returns in her customer service department and that I should be going to the children's department, etc. She ends up doing the return, great thanks. Why was that so hard? Then I begin to have flashbacks of my last encounter with her which was equally unpleasant, but that's a whole other yelp. I should have just gone to the children's department... So she has me slide my card and then starts telling me about a gift card she is giving me. Wait, what? Why? The gift card I used was $10 and I spent $80. Why is my money going back onto a gift card when I finally got rid of the stupid thing? Her little side kick, who I assume was some sort of "manager" came over and said I was lucky I wasn't getting it ALL on the gift card. Really? I'm sorry but who says that to a customer? I wouldn't dare at my store! So now I'm stuck with a gift card with $3.17 on it. Which means I will end up giving them more of my money of course because what quality item will I find for less than $4? I guess I'll just return all of my items and get my money back plus the $10 gift card if this is the case. Someone needs to coach and train this bitter old woman on how to properly greet and service a customer. I will NEVER go back there, except to do my full return. And this is why malls have no stores left in them. Shitty customer service and workers with bad attitudes. Update: I returned the rest of my items and bought back 2 items to use the gift card. When I returned, assuming based on what happened yesterday, I would get the remaining amount from the gift card on a gift card. Instead the gave me $7 cash back and the rest on my card, nothing on a gift card. So why was yesterday such a pain? This return policy makes abolsutely NO sense. read more

Macy's has gone down hill over the years but I still have given them my business, since we live closer to Burnsville that is the location I have shopped.Ttheir merchandise selection is less than desirable, their staff is unfriendly & unprofessional, and to add to the list misinformed. After our experience there last night I will never shop there again. Macys was open until 11pm last night, it was rather quiet at 9:40pm when we entered the store, as we entered I asked an employee in the fragrance department if she happened to know what time it was, she told me 9:40, then I asked how late their store was open this evening, she responded 11:00pm, (the main mall stores were closing at 10:00). We had parked at JCpennys and they were open until midnight. I then asked her if we would be able to walk back to JCpennys (inside) to get to our car when we were finished shopping there, she said Yes, we always have one of the far doors on the lower level unlocked, the employees use them, yes you can get back to JCPennys by walking through the mall. Had she told me NO we would have left and walked back to Pennys as I was wearing a lighter long coat/shell and tshirt underneath. We proceeded to shop for a bit, it was now approx. 10:40pm, we were paying for our purchases. A lady walked up to the cashier to ask how she could get back to where she parked on the other side of the mall, the cashier was not helpful, so I jumped in and siad I was just talking with a staff member and was told that you could go out on the lower level, etc, she thanked me and went on her way. We completed our transaction and headed towards the escalator. When we got downstairs there was the nice lady I had been talking to upstairs, being told by a female employee in the fragrance dept that she could not exit through the door, it was strict mall policy, etc. The employee could have explained this nicely, maybe even apoligized but instead was being rude, she obviously only cared about it being the end of her shift. I explained that I was told by one of Macy's store employees just an hour ago, we were assured that we would be able to get back to our vehicles without going out into the below zero temp, she said, No you were misinformed, it is policy....blah blah. I UNDERSTAND POLICIES, the fact is that one of Macy's Employees misinformed me, and now I am being told, along with this lady shopping alone with a ton of shopping bags and no coat who parked on the polar opposite end of the mall that we can walk outside and around the mall when it is below zero outside to get to our vehicles. Also noted: an elderly man was assaulted in THEIR parking lot last year, really???? Allow a female to leave your store at 11:00 pm and walk half way around the outside of the mall, up a huge hill, around the dark corners by herself? They have no concern for their customers what so ever, not while you are shopping in their store and have a question, not for your personal safety when you leave. My boyfriend walked to go get our car, and we offered the nice lady who was by herself a ride to her car. What should have happened is they should have apologized nicely, and offered to call mall security (who have a company SUV) to give us rides to our vehicles, especially the lady who was by herself, and especially since it was their mistake. While we were waiting for my boyfriend to freeze and get the car a younger male employee from the mens dept did come over and said that he would go get his "mercedes" and give us a ride to our cars, only after he heard me say loudly as I was walking by that" I will never shop in this store again", and that "I was very upset." I was impressed with 3 different Macy's employees recently. I went shopping for a party dress, and I found the perfect dress on clearance. Of course they didn't have my size though. The employee gave me a list of all the stores (even outside of MN) that had the correct size, even in another color. I guess she could have taken it a step futher and called for me, but I was happy with the list nonetheless. I really needed to have two different sizes shipped to me b/c I wasn't sure which one I would take. I had to call the Maplewood location & an Ohio location. Both employees were so friendly and happy to assist in finding this clearance dress in their store so they could ship it for me. I guess I just wasn't expecting that from a major department store; I though they would be more annoyed that they had to go digging through their clearance rack for me. I have shopped at Macy's ever since it took over for Marshall Field's, and I will definitely continue to shop there. read more

Horrible experience at the Macy's. Last time I had a bad experience with the perfume counter and told myself not to shop here again. It's been over a year and today I went in to use the $10 off $25 coupon on my phone at the kids register and was told that this coupon was a fraudulent coupon after standing in line with my toddler for over half an hour! The little Asian lady at this register was so rude to me because I asked to use a coupon that Macy's emailed me! If my toddler was not with me, she would've heard it from me. I went to grab another shirt to add up to $25 and the supervisor came out to help run the register, I asked what the problem was with the coupon and she told "oh she was confused and thought it was something else." I told the supervisor how the lady gave me so much trouble using it and there was no apology or anything. Not going back to this store again, they should train their employees better customer service skills because clearly they all lack it! read more

Bought a blender. It broke within four months. Brought it back with no receipt (they looked it up in the computer) and not in the box. Helpful associate took it back, no questions asked and credited my Visa card. She then proceeded to help me pick out a new blender (different brand) and purchase that.
