The store itself is nice but overall their products are too expensive. We were in the market for a new couch. Macy*s Furniture Store was the first place we stopped by. They have a very large selection of furniture but the nicest and most comfortable are grossly marked up. We found a really nice and large couch at Ashley Furniture across the street for over 1K less than the nicer couches at Macy*s. The sales help was friendly enough but felt a bit obligatory. After two trips into the store we decided to go elsewhere. There are many name brand furniture stores right across the street, I'd save some $ and check them out after a walk through Macy*s furniture gallery. It really makes you appreciate the savings you get at another store.

The warranty pamphlet I got from Deb.

I GOT JE*KED! This is what happened.... I wanted to buy a light color couch for the past few years but was reluctant because I was worried about it getting dirty easily, however one day I walked through Macy's found the perfect sectional for my living room, I spent around 45 min sitting there deciding whether it was comfortable and the consequences of buying a light color couch. Finally a salesperson Deb walked by, I asked her a few questions about microfiber and how easy it was to clean. She then proceeded to tell me about the 7 year warranty they offer and how it worked she was bubbly and friendly. After hearing about it I was confident to invest 4k for the couch plus the extra money for the 7 year warranty. Deb notified me that I needed to pay a 25%down payment first and when the couch is delivered (she told me it would take my couch 3-4 months to be delivered)my credit card would be charged for the balance. I was fine with that so we proceeded, she then came back with a bill which was 25% of the couch plus full payment of the warranty, I asked her if I paid for the warranty now when will it start? She said it would start immediately, so to me that didn't make sense, why would I want a warranty to start 3-4 months before the couch arrives? so I asked her to charge the entire balance including the warranty when the couch arrived which she agreed. Fast forward 3 months later... I got the call from Macy's that the couch was ready to be delivered, I was excited. April 21,2012 delivery guys arrived at my door they were really nice and professional good experience... Fast forward May 3rd 2012 I got my credit card bill, I noticed that only the couch was charged and I didn't see the warranty billed to my credit card, so I called Deb. on Monday May 7th 2012, I was notified she was away and wouldn't be back till May 10th, I called on the 10th and I was told she'd be back on the 11th, so on the 11th I finally got in contact with her and told her what happened thinking she'd tell me she forgot and will add the warranty back, but I was wrong.. she told me I had the couch in my house too long so they couldn't help me. What the??? By the way her tone was not the bubbly Deb that sold the couch to me, now she's totally toned down and cold even and on top of it not apologetic! without the warranty I would have NEVER bought such a light color couch and she knew that esp with all the questions I asked about the warranty and she convinced me how good the warranty is and she's fully aware that I made my decision on the color based on it... I told her I was really ticked off because about this and she said she would speak to a regional manager that was coming in, needless to say she called me back today again saying they will not do anything for me because again I had the couch in my house too long.....omg..I am really feel like I've been tricked and now I have a couch that is super light colored and I'm so worried and scared accidents or spills, I barely sit in it now.. Thanks Deb and Macy's furniture store! Needless to say, I will never buy furniture in Macy's ever until the day I die...

Delivered - At least a quarter inch gap between the seal and the front panel. How does this keep dust out?!?

It was massive but clunky and finished with inches of thick epoxy resin. The client thought it was a lost cause and questioned tossing it. I contacted RE-CO BKLYN after watching a video posted on several social media sites and knew their mission and business ethics would appeal to my client's eco aesthetic & consciousness. (full disclosure, I know co-owner Roger Benton socially.) After an initial onsite consultation which Roger answered and assuaged my client's curiosity about the process and project we scheduled a pick up for the massive hunk of wood which was carried up 3 flights of a narrow staircase by Roger & his partner. Several weeks later and my client is overwhelmed and in love with this "new" dining table. The entire floor plan of the apartment has been re-arranged to showcase the gorgeous table. It is sleek, sophisticated and stunning. What impressed me the most was the tactile quality of the finish. It is the softest, most buttery wood surface I've ever touched. You can feel the passion and professionalism in the product. My only hope is to find another interior project in which I can work with RECO-BKLYN again.

One of the members from the team came over and helped with delivery and install, which was a big help. Even went to the hardware store to get the proper hardware for the install. I couldn't be happier with how the whole process went from start to finish. Everyone who comes over to the apartment immediately runs their hand over the smooth finish and asks where I got it. Not to mention the table has been through some accidents. Including wine glasses spilled and no stains at all. Completely satisfied :) Thanks

Are you apprehensive because product photos never live up to expectations? Have you ever ordered furniture with promised 3 month delivery time but it really took 6 months? Sure, you can pick up cheap crap at IKEA on the fly but you're an adult now and you deserve quality. Welcome to Brooklyn City Furniture. We live in era where big box store chains and the likes of Amazon and Wayfair are putting independents out of business. Brooklyn City Furniture is bravely putting up a fight against this commercial crass. They are a throwback, a typical small footprint store jam packed with a well curated and eclectic mix of furniture and accessories. Still, you ask, "How are they better?" The owner of Brooklyn City Furniture is John, a casual guy who can be formal if required but hits his stride with laughter and ease, and he has a discerning eye too. He knows great art and he knows great furniture. John sources his inventory from stellar furniture makers such a Gus Modern and Foundry. Where in NYC can you go to a furniture store and the owner is there to help you? Find something you like and John might be able to sell it to you with ssshhh... our secret, a 15% discount. John isn't looking to rip you off. He sells great furniture at a great price. Wow, what a concept. Oh, it gets better. John's partner in crime, Agnes, knows all. She will help you with fabrics, pricing, and logistics. Ask John a question and Agnes hears every word. She'll even crack the whip when needed. It's a hoot to behold and worth the price of admission. Never has buying furniture been so much fun. At Brooklyn City Furniture it's John and Agnes. That's it. They are a perfect duo. One thing's for sure, you won't get this level of service at Crate & Barrel. Then came delivery day, of the beautiful Gus Modern Wallace 84" top-grain leather sofa. John and his very kind helper, Michael, showed up on the day and time they said they would. Since when does the store owner personally hand deliver their own goods? There was constant communication between John and I and he arrived in a gorgeous delivery truck... yes, it really is gorgeous. The sofa was triple bubble wrapped and taped. I was gobsmacked. My worries about the sofa being dropped on concrete or the leather being scraped on a wall, vanished. John and Michael wheeled the sofa up to my apartment, centered it along my living room wall, removed the bubble wrap and, voilà, my boring white living room turned into Versailles. I enjoyed John and Michael so much. Afterwards, we had a nice visit complete with the requisite selfies. Never was buying a piece of furniture this easy and painless. I've got a quality sofa at a great price and I made friends along the way. Stay tuned guys, I'm bringing you donuts this week so we can keep the party going. Five stars? Chh. I give Brooklyn City Furniture all the stars in the Milky Way. Thank you... oh, and the cat thanks you too!

Brands and models are confusing not to mention rarely comparable between stores. Prices fluctuate from inexpensive enough to wonder what's wrong to expensive enough to consider skipping meals for several months to afford. Mattress Firm is better than most but Peter at the Ridgewood store is AMAZING. He calmly, politely and expertly helped my daughter replace her recently purchased mattress with one better suited to her sleeping habits and comfort level without breaking my credit card on the change fees and price. (Nothing against the original sales person at same store, this was my daughter's first bed purchase for her first apartment straight outta school and it just didn't work out after a few weeks.) Peter helped us in one language while also guiding a newly hired colleague on processes and engaging her clients in another language. Realizing my daughter was new to the area, he also suggested a few places to eat and shop for household basics.

As I was 1800 miles away, I made it very clear to the sales person on the phone that I needed to know the models in the warehouse that could be delivered. Of course the model I chose wasn't "immediately" available, so "coincidentally" a model that cost $500 more was....so he said. He was emphatic that I had to complete the order by 2PM EST, so I interrupted my day for 45 minutes while we "finished" the transaction over the phone. This included his sending me a payment link at least twice, both of which did not work. Finally, after holding up two other people so I could complete the transaction verbally, he assured me it would be delivered the next day. When I called to ask if a delivery window had been determined, I was told that the mattress was not on the truck and wasn't in the warehouse....as in it had never been there to begin with. CHRIS VALENTIN was the person who answered the call about my delivery, gave me the honest story about availability/delivery, and gave me a discount for being duped and lied to regarding the mattress, understanding that I had nothing to sleep on until three days later. Does this store manager condone salespeople lying to customers just to make a sale? Is this part of the sales training? I'm grateful to Chris for stepping in and finding a resolution, though he couldn't get the mattress to me when I needed it. I cannot blame him for that since it was not of his making.
