I got accused of stealing a pillow that I purchased. I went to check the pillows because sometimes the pillows are clearly dirty, used, or under filled. I had the one guy working there follow me around. He didn't bother asking me if I needed help. Just hovered around the area. Didn't realise he was following me. I came to do an exchange. He, Issac, couldn't scan my receipt. So instead of figuring things out, he accuses me of not even buying that pillow because he cannot scan the receipt. He argues with me. And he wouldn't give me my phone back. He made me beg him to give me back my phone. I had to beg him and say please just to give me my phone back. He then goes and calls the manager. I show them my receipt on my phone. Issac is still hogging my phone. Manager has to say, "Issac give her back her phone." He kept holding on to it. He finally gives it back. Manager is smoothing over the situation, explaining that if I have to exchange the pillow maybe this pillow isn't for me. Down pillows have a smell. Instead of using my time and picking the same pillow, pick a different pillow. Manager goes, "Issac process her return." Mind you, this man doesn't argue with his manager. He treated me with such disregard and disrespect. Thank god for the manager. Thank god for the ladies working downstairs at Coach for making me feel heard and listened to. Popped in here on the 3rd floor to look at furniture, they have a number of options and sales going on that the staff there can help with. Sectionals and other cloth furniture are able to have custom fabrics (swatches on the wall) - it takes between 6-8 weeks to get it delivered at that point. Various collections for wooden furniture, often at a discount (last act is priced as the tag says it is) and you can also get up to 20% (max $100) off if you sign up for Macy's credit/Amex card. Some good deals for things like towels (50-65% off) but watch for higher original prices than expected. read more

I left my Oakleys on a display and the sales staff helped me find them. I also got a bottle of cologne for myself and Clinique for my partner. Got gift sets for both from the friendly sales staff. This rating is only for the wedding registry. We worked with Barbara. The following are pros and cons about the service, process, and store condition/product availability. Pro's: the level you do this on isn't too busy because it's housewares, and everything you'd register for is all on the same level/in the same area. The store was relatively easy to navigate, and there is a consultant who meets with you at the start to guide you through the process and some of the advantages of registering with Macy's. Con's: they try to sell you on getting the card (I had one, I absolutely hated it-it was a waste of time and i could not be more displeased with the level of customer service, or lack thereof). Barbara, although nice, didn't know the answers to most of our questions, so she wasn't as helpful as we would have liked/needed. All in all, it's not the worst Macy's and our experience wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't great. read more

Everyone is respectful and helpful in all of departments that I go to the most, which are - the Service counter to Pick-up Online orders, Men's, Women's, Juniors, Beauty/Fragrance. My mom and I came in to buy some products in housewares. We were waiting on line for more than 15 minutes before giving up and leaving everything we wanted to buy. Carolers were singing through the store, and when they came over to where we were waiting the store employee tried to force my mom and I to join in. After politely saying no to her, she walked away but then came back to us again. She was an older, thin lady with blonde/gray hair. Marcus issues me Macys Cash to be used at a future date. $30 dollars worth, after waiting in line for over 30 min the woman had no idea why to do with the Macy's cash I had, either the $20 online in my app or the $10 I had printed for me on a paper receipt. Then she had the Berber to tell me that I had to print the online credit to use in the store (not true, just a lie to help her out) and the $10 on paper, well that she couldn't think of a reason why it couldn't be used so she walked away to find someone to teach her how to use it. She was gone for 15 min with a growing line of any get customers behind me so I had had enough and just walked out of the store. Huge line still standing there at an empty register of now angry outraged customers. Good luck Macys, you're going to need it with that kind of service. I was treated horribly here yesterday by an employee in the women's department by the name of Gildnar. She was extremely helpful to the two women in line ahead of me but the customer service I was given was atrocious. She wouldn't let me return a men's clothing item at her register, which I understand under the correct circumstances, however the only explanation as to why was simply because she would have to walk it downstairs and asked that I do it instead. Her approach was off, and I told her if I were the typical 'short hills' clientele I doubt she would have told me to bring the item elsewhere. I have never been spoken down to by an employee like this. Also having worked in retail myself, I have never told a customer to do my job!!!!!! In the outerwear department, a dealt with a very, very confused woman. Too much of a fiasco to explain, but let's just say I almost lost a $40 gift card if it wasn't for another employee stepping in. Mind you, there was a huge sale going on. Many employees were taking merchandise up to the registers to calculate their savings and have personal conversations, hogging up registers while many departments only had one register open to begin with. In the lounge wear department the woman who ring me up left a sensor on my purchase. I'll now have to come back. And I really don't want to. read more

No matter when you go: morning, night, weekday, weekend, this Macy's is busy. In fact the mall is busy but this Macy's even more so. Their men's selection is not as extensive as Paramus or Willowbrook but since it's so close to my job it will do for now. Their staff in men's is friendly and helpful when they aren't overwhelmed by obnoxious customers who think they are more important than others because they have money. It's actually quite amusing. They do have good sales but I think their jewelry and fragrance dept is over priced. Especially the watches! During a good sale you can get a nice mens suit for a great price. They even ship it free to your house if they don't have it in stock. Shoe department isn't that great and good luck trying to get someone to help you...insert obnoxious customers once again. I stored my Moms furs here but as she had fallen ill, she's never going to fit them again. I asked to see them so that I could photograph because I will most likely sell them. At that point I was lectured on Power of Attorney and the fact that they will not release her furs without seeing one. A)I do possess POA B)I was only photographing, nothing more. I think that what I was doing is called 'storing your mom's minks while black.' I was appalled. Just now I called to have them brought from the warehouse and was informed that I did not have a balance.....really? So therefore I was free to pick them up. #SAYWUT? Probably the rudest person I have ever met! When trying to return a dress that I had ordered in the store, but had arrived too late for me to wear, the returns clerk asked for the receipt. I assumed that the receipt would be in the package. My bad, it was not. She asked me for my husband's driving license as the card is in his name?? I don't carry his ID around. Rather than spend 30 seconds explaining the procedure to me, she walked away and asked the person behind me what they needed. I asked her if our interaction was over and without looking at me she said, "you need your husbands card, I can't do anything without it." Fine, but how about you let me know that our conversation is over? Maybe let me know when you are serving me that I need to bring my husband's card to get a refund? Perhaps look your customer in the eye? I am so very disappointed and angry with this communication. Shame on you Macy's for hiring such inept employees. read more

Do not ever buy a gift for someone from Macy's. I received a Christmas gift, returned it in livingston store, got a gift card ( ok so far ) BUT then, I ordered shoes online. I wear a size 10. These were way to small ... Immediately returned with same package. Here's where macys sucks. In the 11 days it took for them to issue that refund ( should have been immediate digitally ) I got a merchandise certificate that can only be used in store. The store was barren. My husband and I registered at this Macy's for one of our wedding registries. We picked Macy's because we had guests from all over the country and felt Macy's would be easy for everyone and a suitable price point for all. We totally regret it. I won't say all Macy's everywhere are bad, but the home department of the Macy's in the Mall at Short Hills has got to be one of the worst in the nation. After the wedding, we had to make many returns and exchanges, and every single time we came in to the store it was a bad experience. One time I used a gift card to purchase a vase and there was a $7 balance left on the card after. The associate threw the card away. I asked if there was money left on it and she said no. I knew this was wrong, but did not feel like making a fuss and asking for the manager over $7. On my receipt, it showed the balance that was still on the card, so I was correct. That is just one small example, the sales associates are rude and slow and poor communicators every time we have been there. Also, when guests have purchased a certain amount of items, you earn free gifts Macy's is supposed to send you. We never would have known, except we finally went out of our way to drive to a Macy's farther away because we were so unhappy with the Short Hills home staff, and at that Macy's the associate said we had multiple gifts due to us from Macy's and had them sent to us. She said the store you register at is supposed to do it as you earn them, but since it had been so long and they hadn't done it, she went ahead and did it for us. If you are in the Short Hills area and creating a wedding registry- I recommend you do NOT use Macy's. read more

This is hands down the WORST Macy's store I have ever been to. I usually go to the Herald Square location for all my purchases and if I have to, go to the Short Hills store for any returns. The selection is so limited and the store looks so old looking, especially for a store located in the upscale Short Hills mall. After Christmas I tried to return a pair of basketball sneakers to Finish Line inside Macy's. I purchased them at Hearld Square. I was told by the Mgr. and salesperson that I couldn't return it because they don't carry Bball sneakers in the store! Really!? And to top it off, the finish line mgr spoke to me like I was an idiot! I Just kept breathing and tried to keep my cool because I felt like I was going to go over the edge at any second. I had to call the Livingston store and explained everything to the Mgr in that location. She said the Short Hills location was WRONG!! I drove over to Livingston and returned the sneakers without any problem. Ridiculous that I even had to go through all the effort! Today, my husband returned Jo Malone fragrances at Short Hills that I received as a gift. Again, there was an issue because they don't carry the brand in the store. The salesperson agreed to take the return out of "courtesy ". Yeah, right! They are supposed to take the product back because it was bought at a Macys store regardless of whether they carry the brand at that location. I called the Herald Square store just to verify. But the kicker was the salesperson returned it to the original cc used instead of issuing a gift card. I didn't want the gifter to know I was returning her gift and we specifically requested the gift card from the beginning! The manager was called and couldn't reverse the transaction so I'll be receiving a check in the mail instead. How stupid! The bottom line is the sales help from staff to management that I've dealt with at this store is the worst. They can't think for them selves and clearly don't know what the correct policies are. I knew exactly what I wanted so I didn't ask specifically for help, but then again, I was wandering around for a good 10min looking for the product I wanted and no one said hello. There was a long line at the counter to check out so an employee kindly lead me to another desk to ring me up, which I appreciated because now I was getting a little impatient. Have found exceptional service from staff who are patient and more than accommodating to their customers. Always a good sale and a wider selection than other Macy's I have frequented. They have a huge boot selections, unlike the other department stores. I had plenty to choose from! I happily left with a pair of boots that fit my calves. As for their other shoes, I'm not too crazy for them. I prefer to go to Nordys or Neimans. The shoe salesman was very nice and patient with me. The purse selection is bleh. Mostly MK by Michael Kors or Coach, and most of these bags are canvas. They do carry a few nice leather bags by Coach though. read more

You'd regret not going to this Macy's...The service is higher because of the Mall itself and the staff are simply more knowledgeable about what they are selling. The prices and selections are competitive, while Macy's has the best return policy in all of retail. One Day Sales are very fruitful experiences. You'll be asked about opening a charge account, and quite frankly, you'd be silly not to - the savings on top of sales and clearance is hard to best under one roof. If I could rate as less than 1 star I would. I purchased my and my husband's wedding bands at the jewelry department a few weeks ago and clearly mentioned that our wedding was 8/15. I was told to pick up the rings 8/10, we went to pick up the rings and they could not find either. Mine was being resized but they had no clue when it would arrive, my husband's never left the store and it still took them half an hour to find it. Apparently someone put it back in the case to resell again. We were then told they would push for Friday 8/14. Tried to call throughout the week to check on status, got through once, the other time the call was picked up and dropped before I said anything more than hello. At no point was I asking for special treatment, I just wanted my rings delivered when I was told they would be delivered. And while I can understand potentially a day late or so, the fact that it's a week after the date they were supposed to be ready is absolutely ridiculous. read more

Salespeople here have been consistently and extremely rude especially in Bar III and Calvin Klein departments. There's barely anyone manning the registers and when you ask anyone for help, they act like they're going out of their way to help you and don't want to be bothered. And if you need to do a simple return, especially online orders, they get so upset because it's "additional work." Just tried to return a pair of inexpensive shorts with my receipt, charged to my Macys charge card, with tags still on the garment (but price tag removed). Sales clerk said I needed the actual price tag to make a return. First of all, it is nearly impossible to get a human being on the phone. I was disconnected 3x while jumping through their prompt hoops. When I finally got a rep (outsourced, of course), he could barely speak or comprehend English, thus unable to assist.
