You know... It's really unfortunate that their parking policy has reached Auschwitz levels since they actually have a well-curated selection of wine and spirits inside the store. I went the other day to pick up a couple bottles of bourbon and a pound of coffee from Starbucks. Sure enough there was an employee standing by my car waiting to reprimand me. Why doesn't this phase me? Because it's West Roxbury. Easily the grumpiest people north of Rhode Island. I use wine-searcher.com to compare prices on wine and bourbon. Macy's consistently shows up towards the top of the list with the best prices. They had the best prices in the state for Elijah Craig ($8 cheaper than Blanchards) and Angel's Envy ($5 cheaper than Blanchards). They have their inventory on their website so you know what you're going to pay before setting foot in the store. Many traditional package stores have yet to discover cyberspace. The store itself is small but the selection is really everything you need unless you're a hipster and only drink wines from third world countries. They have a case with some first growth Bordeaux and vintage champagne; and even a bottle of everyone's holy grail, Screaming Eagle. The bourbon selection was impressive. The only bottle missing was Blanton's, but that's sold out at a lot of places. I'll never be loyal to a liquor store since they all have their pros and cons. My advice is to do your homework before you go in so you know if you're getting ripped off or not. Macy's has some great prices, so I'll be sure to return. Just try not to piss off the parking lot nazis. read more

I won't be shopping here anymore. This morning there was a goon patrolling the parking lot, rudely telling people they weren't allowed to park there unless they were shopping at Macy's. My husband told this cretin that we shop there on a regular basis, to which the chucklehead responded, "well, you aren't shopping here right now so it doesn't matter". My husband said, "fine, I won't be shopping here anymore" and the goon said, "not my problem". Inside, the manager was just as rude, informing us that we can shop where ever we choose. FINE! I'm happy to go to Blanchards, where the employees aren't assholes. Blanchards has a better selection of craft beers; both the West Roxbury and JP locations. There's nothing nice about Macy's except their sign. I understand the desire to keep the newly paved parking lot available for Macy's customers. That request could have been conveyed in a less confrontational manner, to better end. There are better liquor stores elsewhere, with parking. Simple decision. read more

Do not waste your time going to this joke of a liquor store. Hands down the worst customer service I've ever experienced. My boyfriend and I went to buy a few bottles of wine to celebrate an occasion. We're both from Maine so we have out of state licenses. I'm 23 & he's 24. She carded both of us, as expected. We were super polite and gave both our ID's to her. First she scanned mine, which wouldn't go through. Mind you, neither of our IDs are expired either. She handed it back to me and said she couldn't sell to us. I politely asked if she could try again or if I could show multiple second forms of ID. She said no and proceeded to mock me, saying "I don't care if you're 54, I'm not selling to you." Next, my boyfriend asked if she could try his, assuming her machine was broken. She continued to say no until finally trying his which also wouldn't go though. Again, we're both well above age and frustrated at this point. We then asked politely if she could try a different machine, as we didn't want to have to venture to an entirely different store and we are, OF AGE. She continued to say no in a rude and off-putting tone. I'm disgusted with the way we were treated and I will never be stepping foot back here. I suggest you don't waste your time. read more

They get 5 stars from me for three reasons: 1) They have parking 2) The redemption center is in a little building around the back so the whole store does not smell like rotton beer (see: Kappy's in Medford) And perhaps the most important of all: 3) They have STRONGBOW CIDER! I live in walking distance to this place and I've actually shopped this store quite a bit since it's so close to my home. But not anymore. I just do not appreciate the rudeness out of the employees. You feel like you are inconveniencing them when you want to pay. I don't understand why they are so rude to customers here. But I won't be back. I've been here a number of times I've been here, mainly because of its proximity to Roche Bros. I never really felt the need to review it., but just the other day I was in there and was really impressed by the staff. First off, they do have a good selection of 'good beers' and what seems like a shitload of wine (not that I'm the mother fucker to consult on that score). But yeah, their beer cooler is well split between good medium and shit beers. So, all this, and the prices are completely reasonable. But anyway, the point of this review. The service was actually good. Like, i think they might have given a shit, friend!! They actually converse with you like humans, which is kind of cool. So, yeah, more about their selection of beer, they may not have every "oh, I was perusing this great German beer blog the other day and blaaaaaaaaaaaaa" beer in the world, but they have plenty of interesting shit in addition to beer-pong staples. read more

this would be a one star review, except that they have parking (but isn't that a given in west roxbury anyhow) and a pretty large beer selection - a good variety of "crappy" and "good" beers. HOWEVER. here's something that really turns me off about macy's and why i won't be returning (especially considering there are plenty of liquor stores with parking lots and good selections in the area): 1. while i'm browsing the beer coolers towards the rear of the store - two stock boys are just standing in the aisle, right in front of the cases, small talking about their repeat customers' drinking habits (ya doood, that guy was just in here yesterday, bought a 30 rack, then he comes in again today buys another one, i'm like "really man?"). what! hello, i thought there was some mutual understandings between the employees at most liquor stores and their consumers - do not comment on, in any way, their alcohol consumption habits. 2. i had been in the store for about two minutes when someone came over to ask me if i wanted help, i said "no thank you, just browsing" and thought to myself "hm, that was different - kinda nice i guess". however, once two more people asked me in the span of 5 minutes, i began to feel as though i was just being followed around the store. if you are concerned i'm stealing - put up some mirrors. if i don't ask you for help, i probably don't need it. i am someone who spends 30 minutes at a time browsing through the wine selection at blanchards, and i LOVE that they leave me be while i do so! this just rubbed me the wrong way - didn't seem like "good service". will not be returning. read more

Only giving 3 stars because the only nice person in there when the red headed boy. He was very helpful when looking to find my booze of choice and a bag of good ole Dorchester shrimp. I used to love living close to this place because they have a good selection with the cheapest prices and a redemption spot out back. The employees are cranky but funny townies who will befriend you after your second visit. The few times my friends would visit me from other areas, they'd always want to make a trip here before they left to get the cheapest beer around! read more

Top notch beer and winde selection. They keep this place stocked with the newest beer choices and of course my favorite, plenty of Sam Adams products. Prices are great! There is wine tasting on weekends and very helpful staff with good recommendations and a good attitude. There is plenty of FREE parking at the nearby lot and its in and out quickly. They also take credit cards. This place wont steer you wrong! It blows away the local competition! read more

Ample parking, friendly-enough staff, decent selection. The only major issue with the old neighborhood stand-by is the last of the three major West Roxbury package stores to renovate (Blanchard's on Centre St and Gary's on the VFW both underwent renovations in the past few years and have vastly improved). For this reason, Macy's is a bit cramped and you'll often find yourself in someone's way or someone else in your way. The beer selection at Macy's is very good, just short of great. They have a nice selection of whiskeys as well. Those are my two poisons so I won't comment on the rest of the selection from personal experience. My mother loves the wine tastings and swears by the selections of the staff. I've had good experiences with the staff when searching for something particular. I inquired about a specific local brew and the manager said they had just sold the only case they purchased and hadn't planned on purchasing more. To my pleasant surprise, the beer was available on my next visit about a week later. Prices are definitely fair; comparable to the other two stores mentioned above. Just horrendous customer service, Poor selection, Over priced Spider web'd bottles - when ask if they carried a certain beer one word answer "Nope" then walks away. Just seemed like I was bothering the guy! Just out right horrible experience totally killed my vibe. Now we went to Blanchards up the street and asked for the same BCBS beer and we got "unfortunately we don't carry that, but you might want to try the Alchemist Heady Topper." Ended up buying and loved it! Just recently moved to the area and was nice to know not every establishment is as rude and unprofessional as Macy - will forever pass this place and head to Blanchards. read more

I'm new to the area and was psyched to find Macy's last Friday. I was having a house warming party and wanted to stock up. The prices were great. I was helped by a friendly clerk Matthew, he had a neck tattoo and he was very helpful with picking out wine to pair with what I was having at the party. I'm not really a beer drinker but he helped me pick out some great beers that my guests really appreciated. I'll be sure to come back here!! read more

Hi all!! Well since there haven't been any recent reviews of this store here's mine... The staff is very helpful except for the creepy wine guy Lalo. The cashiers are friendly enough and the beer manager Fred really knows his stuff!! Seems like he may be the only one who does any work though. The prices are the most competitive in the area.The wine selection is a bit biased toward Spanish/Latino wines.( thought it was better under former owners) The store is clean and filled to the rim with all you could want for alcohol and beers. Parking is a must on Centre St. and they have plenty.Not much for snacks to grab while you stock up for a party or game but a knowledgeable beer manager who can help you with all!! Thank goodness redemption is outside so it doesn't stink like Atlas and others with it inside. read more

Sent me a $200 box of wine without following their process of reaching out via email or phone prior to shipment. Only way I knew it was coming was the charge on my credit card. Then when I called the customer service line he tried to actually argue rudely with me. Will not be using in the future, poor customer service. read more

A great liquor in a crowded area for that market. Gary's and Blanchard's are both larger, but I much prefer Macy's for their great prices and paired down selection. I've found the Blanchard's to be rather rude, and Gary's can be just plain overwhelming! Macy's has great prices on wine and craft beer, with some really great choices despite having a little real-estate to work with! Too bad I don't live closer - like some others, I visit only when I go to the superlative Roche Bros. next door - because this is a quality venue. Just returned from my last visit to Macy's. I've been shopping there for over 30 years but after tonight, no more. Why? Because the gentlemen working the cash registers were silently rude, dressed like slobs and reeked like reefer. When are you merchants gonna get it through your heads and wise up? People have choices and Blanchard's is right down the street. Why would anyone continue to spend money in a store where the employees make it obvious that my business isn't important? I don't expect to be waited on hand and foot but I'm not going to put up with creepy employees who look dirty and unkempt with a matching attitude and stink like they just finished smoking up.They couldn't say "thank you", "good evening", nothing, making me feel uncomfortable and wanting to get out of there as soon as possible. Some of the other reviews here are frankly bizarre. I've shopped here probably 25 times and have never encountered anything other than good, friendly customer service. Their prices and selection are excellent, they have ample free parking, and their redemption center is clean and well-maintained. Basically they do everything right. read more

I have bought from here at least a dozen plus times, but I'm just all set. They have a small handful of nice employees, and a full force of disinterested-to-combative meanies --including the manager, who seems unwelcoming, inconsistent, and moody. Yesterday was just the last straw -nothing particularly shattering happened, just business as usual in this place . If you like being treated as an inconvenience then head here, by all means. It's cramped anyhow, and the beer and wine selection is easily trumped by nearby stores for the most part, so, no big loss I guess. read more

This store was great from the start, Lang confirmed my order, gave perfect directions, arrived in clean parking lot, inside of store was spotless, cashier was super nice, Manager was awesome getting my order together, and went to pick up and store attendant already had on 2 wheeler and happily took to my car in lot and placed inside back seat, told them I'll be back with some homemade liquor that I make up, great transaction all around. was worth the long drive, yet they carried what I needed. Macy's employees hate thier most loyal customers. Macy's has a couple things going for them...excellent beer selection, excellent prices for beer, wine , and liquor and an excellent location. However, the humans who man the cash registers are so rude and judgemental that I wish there was another liquor store on centre street that could match their prices. Blanchards has exorbitant prices and caters itself towards upper class wine drunkards, whereas Gary's matches Macy's as far as variety and price of the beer and liquor that fuels the "working class". At least the cashiers at Gary's are overtly rude because they recognize their customers as being of the same class as a cashier. However, when you walk into Macy's you might as well be walking into the butler's quarters at the Rockefellers' mansions....... You will get the same cock-eyed look even if you earn more money than they could possibly earn as a cashier at a liquor store. read more
