Calm before the storm of dealing with check-out employees
    Amanda G.

I now know the reason as to why one might have a decent experience while another might have a horrible one here. I've had so many different experiences at this location and it has become apparent that, if you're interaction is with a permanent employee, you're likely to have much more pleasant outcome as opposed to if you're dealing with a seasonal employee, the outcome will likely be less appealing. It is November so sine of whom you're dealing with are unvetted, angry individuals, that have no interest in working earnestly to make a good impression and keep their jobs past 2023. This past weekend, Saturday 11/05/22, at around 5P, we came to purchase a birthday gift for a child. I really wanted to go to a boutique in one of Westchester's walkable villages but hubby insisted we just come here; mistake number one. Parking was atrocious because it was the weekend so the place was crammed with people looking for deals. We went right up to the top floor, found some cute clothing pieces and I went to go and pay. Matthew was working at the cash register and was not exactly rude but there was definitely a feeling of, "I don't want to be here", coming from him. Sometimes, it's just the way you speak to people that can turn them off from you. I didn't pay him any mind. I paid and requested my receipt be sent via email. Afterwards, I sent hubby to the car with the bags and went to use the restroom before leaving, remembering that I just purchased a gift but forgot to ask for a gift receipt. After using the bathroom, I went back upstairs and before even approaching the cashier, I asked a random employee what I needed to do in order to have a gift receipt reprinted. They said I could use the email receipt and didn't need the actual items, and that I could go to any register. Since I was already on the floor, I just went back to where I initially purchased. Matthew that rang me up prior was dealing with a customer, so I went to the other cashier, Brittany. My first sentence to her was that I just made a purchase and mistakenly forgot to ask for a gift receipt but was told that I could just show the email receipt and have it printed. She tried but it didn't work. Matthew also tried to help. I asked what I could do and unprovoked, this girl begins to speak down to me, with the nastiest of attitudes, that it was too late and I should have gotten a gift receipt when I bought the items. Even Matthew knew she was being rude because he had to hold up him hand to cue her to stop. I repeated myself and said that I already explained it her that I forgot and she didn't need to be nasty. Matthew said that the only recourse would be to bring back the items to return and repurchase. I went back to the car to get the items and then straight to customer service (I-service? on first floor) and spoke with Michelle, who was a complete 180° of friendliness. I explained the situation and she left her post to walk me upstairs and rectify the issue. When we got up there, Brittany had no name tag on and left her register. Matthew was still at his post and initially would not move when Michelle requested that he take his customer to the other cash register. By the looks of it, Michelle had to take over his machine and cancel the transaction to make him move. She then inquired as to what occurred and he had the audacity to lie to everyone present, saying that stormed off with an attitude when he tried to explain to me the procedure. I had to speak up for myself and said that while he did give me the information, I only walked off after the other girl was extremely rude for no reason. For some reason, this kid felt the need to keep talking and Michelle had to step in to silence him. All of the employees in this area are seasonal so there's a reason they treat people like crap. They have nothing to lose because they're desperately needed for the moment and then they'll be let go by January/February. I worked in retail and if I could offer up some sound advice, it would be to not take a job where you have direct contact with the public if you can't be respectful and courteous. Work from home or behind the scenes if you can't handle normal interactions with actual people. As Michelle and I walked away, we saw a manager and I explained what happened. He apologized profusely and Michelle brought me downstairs to complete the transaction. This entire episode is the reason I order online. I gently reminded hubby why I didn't want to come here to begin with. It's just not worth it and in the end, the business suffers because less people shopping in person means that they don't see other displayed items that might catch their eye, prompting them to spend more. These businesses should get their temporary employees better.

Why is thermostat always set to 90°? It is always desert hot in this Macy's. Recommend leaving your coat in car and parking close

I recently purchased a $400 jacket that became ruined within 3 wears through no fault of my own. There was a metallic coating on it that began to peel. When I wanted to return it the owner said that she might not take it back. She has been unpleasant at times over the years but this was new level. She said that I might have caused the stain. I told her it was on the back; how could I have spilled anything there. Even if I had, a good jacket should not start to disintegrate from spilling something on it. I expect clothes that I spend good money on to last. She was extremely concerned by not getting her wholesale price money back from the manufacturer . After the money I've spent over the years this was laughable. She accused me of threatening her which I was not doing. When she realized her mistake she did not apologize. Further, when I said that she "had to stand behind the products she sells" her angry response was that she did not. I felt like my loyalty was hurled in my face like a brick. She treated me like I was the enemy rather than a loyal, dissatisfied customer who she should work to maintain. Obviously she did not appreciate my decades of patronage. I will never shop there again; my clothing budget will now go elsewhere. Business is challenging these days. Customers should be appreciated and valued at the places they frequent.

I bought a $400 dress that ripped after two wearings. It was a summer dress and didn't realize it was ripped until I pulled it out to wear in summer 2024. I brought in and they told me too bad, too late??? It was over a year. Suggested I call the company myself. This wasn't some cheap dress. I though incorrectly that they would stand behind their merchandise. I have spent at least $ 5,000 between their Rye and Mt Kisco stores and expected to be treated like a valued customer. Did I expect a 400 credit? No. But at least something to recognize the dress was and defective and acknowledge my business. Some kind of credit. I will never shop here again. Be warned.

My weakness is their range of sophisticated and durable flat shoes. I won't disclose the type or brands, because they sell out quickly. The best news is that Shoe's and More has a website so you can shop from home! They have initiated a "Shop at Home Concierge Program." I will definitely be taking part. I don't live locally to the store so having reliable sales persons and the managers has been a blessing as they notify me when new clothing and shoes will be in. In addition, they now offer in-store pick up, free local delivery and free shipping after a certain purchase limit.
