I love Middle Eastern meat pies and so I've been wanting to try all the ones available in Ottawa…read more Next on my list was Al Noor Bakery. I finally went there recently and ordered some meat pies ($2 each) and meat and cheese pies ($2.75 each). Both types of pies were great, but I liked the meat and cheese one the most. The cheese was so chewy, and slightly squeaky. It reminded me of cheese curds. The meat was well seasoned and wasn't too sour or too salty like at some places. The dough was thin and slightly crispy, not doughy. I like thin and crispy, so I liked the dough. The meat had a slight smokey flavour to it, but not as much as Aladdin's. I compare most meat pies to Aladdin's because they are my favourite, but Al Noor is a very very close second. They are both very similar. Al Noor's has more meat and cheese but Aladdin's has more of that smokey flavour that I like. The bakery has some seats so you can eat your food there. They also sell some sweets that are prepackaged (not baked there). They also sell beverages. I didn't like the fact that the staff did not wear gloves while they prepared my food. Nor did I see them washing their hands at any point. The man preparing my food was actually holding his phone with one hand (and watching a video on it) and preparing my food with this other hand (and occasionally touching his phone with the food preparing hand). Minus 1 star for (lack of) sanitation. If staff wore gloves, this place would get 5 stars from me. Staff are nice enough. The place is bigger than I expected. It's in a strip mall on Wylie just off Carling (you can see the bakery from Carling). There is a small parking lot in front, so there is free parking but it's limited. And this may be a bit random, but the entrance door is really really heavy, lol. If you love meat pies, give Al Noor a try!

I got a regular meat pie ($2.85), with spices but no lemon, and it was pretty good. The spices adds flavour, not really heat so don't shy away if you don't like hot spicy foods. I don't like added lemon juice because I find it makes the pie too sour, but most people add both lemon and spices. The pies have a generous amount of meat and the pastry isn't too thick, which is how I like it. It was crispy on the outside, but still a bit chewy on the inside. Definitely a solid Lebanese meat pie. Staff were nice. And I liked how they have a sink there and I saw staff washing their hands before preparing my food. Many Middle Eastern meat pie bakeries have their listed prices inclusive of taxes, but not here, their prices are before taxes. However, they do take plastic as well as cash, unlike some other places that only take cash (like Aladdin's) or only take plastic (like Bibi's). It's in a strip mall, so plenty of free parking in the strip mall parking lot.

I've only tried the regular meat pies here ($2.50 taxes included), and those were pretty good. The filling had a lot of meat, and the dough was thin and crispy (but not overly crispy). Spices were standard and similar to the majority of meat pie places across Ottawa. I liked that the meat wasn't too salty nor too oily. I also liked that they really heated it up - when I opened up the meat pie to take a picture for y'all, steam was literally rising from the meat. Staff were nice, but they did not wear gloves. However, we didn't order cheese or vegetables on our pies so there was minimal handling of the food. Not sure if they'd wear gloves if handling the food more. The place has 3 tables that seat 2 people each. They also sell drinks (non-alcoholic). It's in a strip mall, so lots of free parking.
