Rounding up from a 3.5. My husband picked up some schnitzel on the way home, so I only tried it over an hour later. Because it was in the cardboard container for so long, by the time my husband got home the container was kind of damp from the heat and moisture, and some of the sauerkraut stuck to the bottom. I originally just wanted the wiener schnitzel, though they use pork cutlet instead of the traditional veal specifically for wiener schnitzel. I decided to go with the mushroom schnitzel instead, since it seemed popular. I asked for the mushroom sauce on the side instead of on top because I didn't want the schnitzel to be soggy after travelling. It had been awhile since I had spaetzle, so I got that and braised cabbage instead of the standard potatoes and gravy and steamed veggies it came with. My husband got me a large schnitzel, which I'm glad he did because it was quite thin and the large was a good size. I was hesitant to reheat it because it was so thin and I didn't want to overcook it. I was also super hungry (I didn't eat lunch beforehand to save the room) and didn't want to wait. The schnitzel was good with the slice of lemon as well as the mushroom sauce. The creamy mushroom sauce tasted like Campbell's condensed mushroom soup with some mushrooms added, but that's actually one of my favourite canned soups so I can't complain. The only downside was that it was cold and thickened in the containers, so I probably should've reheated the sauce. The spatzle seemed a bit overcooked because it was a bit gummy. I was surprised to find it had the same mushroom sauce on top of it. It was ok, but it would've been better with just butter, and probably would've been a much better texture if I had it freshly made. There was plenty of braised red cabbage. It wasn't too sour and surprisingly sweeter than I expected, but good and hearty. This definitely would've been better in a non-cardboard container, but more environmentally friendly, I guess. My husband got the large Cordon Bleu schnitzel that was stuffed with black forest ham and cheese, whipped potatoes with gravy, and steamed broccoli and carrots. I tried the schnitzel and while good, I still liked mine better with the sauce on top. The potatoes were pretty good, very smooth with a dark gravy, but not sure if they were homemade. Overall good, filling meal. Would love to go there and eat-in someday so that the food is still hot and fresh! read more

Had a lovely meal here; looks like they've shaped up in recent years. Very nice and colorful interior, and I really liked the Bavarian style schnitzel (pork cutlet stuffed with ham, sauerkraut, havarti, and spicy mustard). No complaints, though the mashed potatoes and gravy tasted like they were not made by scratch. read more

I really wanted to like this. Had memories of beautiful schnitzel florentine from years ago. Arrived for a very late lunch after a picturesque drive up the Ottawa valley. Virtually empty restaurant but 90% reserved(!!). Had good memories of schnitzel florentine. A competent German schnitzel garnished with crispy deep fried spinach leaves. But very bland spätzle mushroom gravy (canned mushroom soup I think). Canned sauerkraut. And speck filling was....cool. Schnitzel Bavarian was better. Very weak beer menu. Sad. read more

This restaurant is an excellent choice for briefly re-heated from frozen unidentifiable slivers of meat, in a burnt batter. A traditional Campbell's can of sauce accompanies the schnitzels. Don't allow yourself to be misguided by the fancy language of the menu, tomato sauce means two limp slices of tomato remains, also reheated. The spatzel is an excellent appetite suppressant if you're looking to lose weight. Please note: the servers do not know what English Breakfast tea is and will confirm whether it is the same as Earl Grey. The water is probably good, but we were not given the opportunity to try it. Waitstaff seemed to have other duties besides attending to our table. read more

We have gone here many times for birthdays anniversaries etc. Always have great food and fabulous service. Went last night and had 5 adults and a toddler. We were asked if he wanted a drink, what could they bring him for a meal, a plate to help cool his pasta down. No fusses from staff when he dropped food. Our meals were spot on, fresh broccoli and carrots with delicious schnitzel. Now on to dessert. 4 of the 5 desserts ordered were normal size. I ordered the crepes Denmark. Ahem* didn't realize I was actually getting the full size of Denmark. OMG so HUGE!! I was actually embarrassed lol. But, I ate a third and packed the remainders to bring home. The Granary looks like a quaint place to visit in Eganville. Dressed up like a fancy barn, one might expect BBQ but instead, patrons are offered a schnitzel house. Not authentic German food but a mix of foods (fries, pasta, etc.) combined with schnitzel. The menu needs focus. While the schnitzel was tasty, it was nothing to write home about. I think the biggest disappointment on the plate was the sauce. The homemade, hand cut pasta was not drained well enough and watered down the sauce. Unfortunately it was also lacking flavour and under seasoned so this compounded the issue. For me the restaurant is a pass, I will continue to explore the landscape in Eganville to look for that one gem that makes my mouth water when I hear the name. read more

I enjoyed my visit to the Granary, and I feel that the negative reviews here are not wholly deserved. Our server was helpful and cordial. My mate and I shared a chicken schnitzel with a creamy mushroom sauce and a Letscho sauce, some thoroughly pleasant Spätzle and a nice Hacker Pschorr. The portions are ample here. For dessert, we indulged in a decadent maple skor blonde brownie. I bet this place is beautiful in the summer. I can easily imagine putting away several Hacker Pschorrs on their terrasse. If you're a schnitzel fan in the Ottawa valley, it's worth a visit! read more

It breaks my heart to have to rate a German restaurant poorly, but the Grainery was a let down. I ordered the Wiener Schnitzel with Spätzle and brown sauce/gravy. Everything looked homemade and the schnitzel did not disappoint. The Spätzle on the other hand was a severe disappointment. Dispute the wide array of Spätzles I have feasted on over the years, this one was unfortunately the worst ever. I was bland/unseasoned and overlooked (waterlogged). While we did not try any dessert, we did see a crepe walk by that looked very good, but alas I cannot rate on appearance alone. The staff were very pleasant and patient as some in our party took a while to decide what they wanted. While I might be back for schnitzel again, and that is a big might, I will definitely try a more basic side like mashed or fries! read more

Excellent 'take out' lunch at the Granary! We enjoyed the schnitzel and chicken schnitzel. Both were prepared quickly, and efficiently packed with all associated accompaniments. The mushroom gravy was very tasty and the fries were piping hot and perfectly seasoned! Well done!! read more

I was really hoping I could give this more than two stars. Something seems to have happened to this restaurant. Breakfast on Sunday was an ordinary affair with a nothing-to-write-home-about schnitzel, a disinterested waiter. The rest of the breakfast specials were dry and uninteresting. Eganville is a lovely, lovely town worth a stop. The Granary is worth a stop, but is certainly not the stop in Eganville. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! There was one waitress. Upon entering the restaurant we were asked to wait so that she could clean a table and seat us which was fine but she didn't even set the table. Then we waited another 15 minutes to be asked if we wanted drinks, another 10 minutes to order and another 45 minutes to receive our food!!!! at which point we had no utensils and she grabbed a bunch of utensils and threw them in the middle of the table. This is the worst Weiner schnitzel I ever had. It was my first time there and thought I'd try it since it's suppose to be a schnitzel house. I wouldn't go back but stay home a make it myself or even go somewhere else. The dinner was dry and tough to eat. The service was poor we had to wait for a missing dinner and silverware. This is by far my favourite place to eat at when I stop by in Renfrew County. The portions are generous, the prices are fair, and the food is simple and delicious! The servers are also friendly and attentive. The only problem is that with so many great meals to choose from, it's hard to leave room for dessert ;-) read more

An annual stop on the way to Red Pine Camp - quality schnitzel and healthy portions, and a nice variety of desserts and sides! A lot of different styles of local art on the walls, as well as a huge mural that has to be seen to be believed. read more

Great food but the service was very poor.she forgot about us and served another couple that arrived afther us. Then she remembered to get the drinks and i had to reminde her what we ordered 10 min ago. I could understand if the place was full but it was dead at the time. At the end of the meal she brings the bill and 5 small candy and puts them down on the table, i take 2 while the girlfriend pays,the server takes the remaining 3 and goes off with the girlfriend looks at the tables for one of those candys. I'm pretty sure those are cheap. Not impressed at all. read more

Very nice overall! We almost didn't go for the schnitzel after reading the poor reviews but we're glad we tried it. It was crispy on the outside, moist in the inside and seasoned just right (not overly salty). The veggies and mashed potatoes were home style so overall it felt like a home made meal! We would stop there again. We had the plain schnitzel as we like it crispy and thought the sauce would make the breaking soggy. read more
