This company is extremely unprofessional. They were trimming trees in our neighborhood and blocked off the entire road. They did not have any signs or cones out and no one even looking for traffic. After waiting for 15 minutes they yelled at us to "go the f$@& around", which forced us to drive through a neighbors yard to get home. I will tell anyone that is looking for a tree service to steer clear of this rude company. read more

Beware and proceed with extreme caution with this company just as you would with an actual Mad Cow. This company will take advantage of every opportunity to get you to sign a contract under the duress of a stressful situation following a storm, claim to be working with your insurer at no cost to you, perform lackluster service, then solely rely on said contract to bilk you and your insurer for exorbitant costs, threaten liens on your property, and attempt to silence any negative reviews online with frivolous claims of libel lawsuits for negative reviews after they've buried them with more recent positive reviews of their own. The best thing you could do is just look at how they respond to the negative reviews on here, Google, etc. - is every random person the enemy or are they just a bad company? Following the severe storms in mid-March, they have harassed sweet, elderly women and single mothers in the North County area with outrageous invoices for tens of thousands of dollars for a few hours of work. It couldn't be more obvious how they are simply attempting to prey on vulnerable people in stressful situations, in the hopes of getting the insurance payout, then shout about liens and lawsuits in order to get whatever money they can of out people when either insurance doesn't pay or they want more money. Even going so far as to bring a costumed police officer with them to the door "to collect" - last I checked, cops don't make house calls for bill collection. It is also suspicious that they want their compensation delivered in-person and not sent in the mail - could it because mail fraud is a federal offense? read more

I hired Madcow to trim an old tree on my property. I also purchased a treatment for the health of the tree. I can't be more impressed! They were on time and provided a high quality of work. The day of my service was very hot, no complaints. They worked fast and cleaned up fully. Madcow is by FAR the best value in tree service in my area. This company came out to cut down a tree in the back yard of my rental property and damaged a sump pump pipe running in the yard and didn't finish the tree they were trimming. When they called me to collect their pay, I told them about it, they denied it as if I was lying and was very rude. When the owner came to pick up the money, we showed him the video of the yard and his workers moving the piping. He then apologized and agreed to repair it. He also said that he work with Veterans and give them discounts also, so I told him I was a veteran and he agreed to cut down two dead trees in the yard to help me. I agreed with the price he offered and he said he would be back in the next two weeks to do the job. After I paid him for the previous job, he never came back. I called his office and his wife just kept giving me the run around and then refused to respond to me. I feel that he fed me a lie just to get paid and never really meant any of what he said. This company can not be trusted. Ms. Denise, this is part of the conversation we had to let you know I was not trying to get free work done. June 13th "Good afternoon, I'm still waiting on answers. You guys didn't forget me? I'm sure your husband is a man of his word because he is the one who told me about the military discounts and promised that he would do the work. I need to know If he is going to complete the unfinished work at least then I will know how to move forward concerning the other work." I appreciate a response. No response June 18th, "Can you tell me if you guys are going to come and cut the other limbs from the tree you were contracted to do?" June 20th response from you. "Good morning, just following up with call from yesterday, Madcow will not be able to do the work for the estimate # 23056-June 5th 2022, due to Service area changed and insurance does not cover outside service area. Waiting to get with Lance this morning about the work that saying did not get completed, once I get details from him will get work order issued. Thank you." My response, "Thank you." Mad Cow just cut down a tree in my yard that was 17 feet in circumference. It was close to my house. They did a great job! Showed up on time with all of the equipment and people to do the job. No damage to the house or yard and they did a fantastic job cleaning up the yard. Bid was no more than other tree services in the area that seemed much less professional. Highly recommend! read more

Madcow Outdoor Service - Giant tree coming down - Tree Services Near Me - Alton, Illinois

A tree fell on my roof due to the 3/14/25 storm. I reached out to Madcow Outdoor Service for removal of the tree. Booking was easy given the situation. They said they work with the insurance company and do not charge their customers at the time of service. Little did I know this company would invoice the insurance company for OVER $27K for this 1-2 hour job. Parts of the tree were left in my roof. After 3 days of reaching out to the company, Lance from Madcow told me that this was done because it would cause more damage to my home if they removed all the tree from my home. He alluded to the roofer cutting the tree out when they replaced the roof. Although I was invoiced $2,500 for tarp, it did not even cover all the holes in my roof allowing for more water to get in my home due to subsequent storms that followed this sever weather event in STL. I am also being invoiced for leaf blower, chainsaw, and hand tools that should already be owned by any reputable tree company. For $27,300, Madcow left the tree on my front lawn for the city to come and dispose of. Once the insurance company refused to pay the full invoice, Lance began to threaten me with a lien and foreclosure of my home if I did not pay or help with collection by use of a Public Adjustor. It hasn't even been 30 days since the tree fell on my home. Needless to say, I paid him what the insurance company allotted (should be delivered next week). I am washing my hands of this company. I STRONGLY do not recommend use of this company. He has made an already stressful situation more stressful. read more

We are a gold star family. Lance from MadCow outdoor service came by to give an estimate for our tree work. Long story short, he did all the work for free! They have a "trees for heros program" and donates his company's team of expert tree removal and trimming. We were overwhelmed at his generosity. We are the parents of cpl. Christopher Belchik Kia in Iraq. Lance and his team came in and took down a large tree, but also trimmed several others. They did an amazing job. The place looks like they were never here, except for the 60ft tree that's gone! Not only are they really good people, but outstandingno professionals. These people came out to trim oir trees. They did a horrible job. They rip our fence NEVER CAME BACK TO FIX IT. Also left a HUGE MESS all the tree trimmings in my street and all down the sidewalk and in my neighbor yard. Said they well be right back to clean it up. 4 hours later no return so haf to so it myself . blow the street and side walk and clean both neighbors driveway and yard. Left clippings on my glidder and limbs. Didnt even get the limbs that was told to do. Been week and still not heard from them about my fence. Have bad health and had to clean this mess left me sick for days. read more

14 Oct 2020, hired MadCow 'on the spot' after watching the crew remove my next door neighbor's tree. My appointment was roughly scheduled and the team arrived on the day they projected, less than a week later. The yard was perfectly protected with large sheets of plywood to prevent ruts in the lawn. The crew worked together swiftly and quickly. The owner (Lance) and his son explained each step of their tree removal process and answered all questions/concerns. Lance video's the homeowner's property BEFORE any work is started and he identified an existing serious, life threatening problem with the house. He promptly contacted the utility company. Lance went above and beyond to go to the store to purchased the materials needed to fix the issue. His crew stayed to help. I was so impressed with MadCow. Once the utility fixed the major problem with the house, the crew set out to cut the tree down quickly. The yard was raked of every twig and every chunk. Not a single tire mark or rut was in the lawn. As the crew was ready to leave, we saw two neighbors approach MadCow to ask about estimates. Awesome! Later that evening, Lance called to ask if everything was resolved with the utility company and if we needed any other help. In today's crazy world, his phone call proved that there ARE good, caring, thoughtful people out there. This is an outstanding business to hire.
