While driving from Huntsville, Alabama to Oxford, Mississippi, my dash suddenly signaled that all of the car's sensors were not operating. I pulled into Tupelo, Mississippi hoping to find a Mercedes dealer only to find out that the nearest one was in Memphis, 116 miles away. I found Auto Medic online and saw that they specialized in Mercedes and other high end vehicles. The shop was hidden from the street behind another building. I began to have doubts until I noticed all of the high end cars parked in their lot. I arrived at 4 pm on a Wednesday. From that point, they made every effort to get me back on the road safely. The problem was determined to be a 4' x 6' piece of plastic wrapping material that had somehow wrapped around the left front drive axle so tightly that the sensor wires had snapped and the inner seal had been crushed. The damage required the half-axle to be replaced. Auto Medic's owner, Bobby, drove us to a car rental agency to get a car while his team started to search for a new half-axle. This was during the second year of Covid, and foreign car parts were very difficult to find. A new half-axle was found in Florida, and they had it shipped to another distribution center in Mississippi. Rather than wait for the part to be re-shipped, they drove 120 miles round trip to pick up the part when it arrived at the distribution center. They had us on our way Friday morning, with the damaged parts in tow in case there was some difficulty with our insurance claim. (There was none.) During the entire time I was at Auto Medic, they made sure I had everything I needed. I was invited to watch them work on the car, and they took photos to show the claim adjuster (who was in Connecticut! ) what the situation was. I was most impressed to see the lead mechanic using the opportunity to explain the working of the 4-matic (AWD) system to other mechanics as it is rarely seen in cars sold in the South. Although they went through a lot of extra effort, they stayed with their original estimate. When I returned home, the car was due for its B maintenance check and was found to be in perfect condition.

Just because my daughter looks Latin they treated her like a black person normally gets treated in that area. I was stranded on the side of the road and thought to myself the only option I had was to drive 5mph down the road to try to make it to Hyundai so it wouldn't drag on the road. As I was making my way back to Gloster Street, I happened to notice Byrd's Body Shop sign and thought maybe they could at least tape it up to where I could make it to Hyundai. So I pulled into the lot and was greeted with the warmest welcome! They did more than just try to help. They fixed me up with brand new screws and clips that had come loose from the last time my oil was changed when the mechanic hadn't tightened it enough. I did worry for a second because I noticed the "cash & checks only" sign, but they assured me it was no problem and sent me on my way. I will use them from now on!

When he couldn't get the rotors until later that afternoon, instead of making me stay and wait, he offered me his truck to drive back to where the rv was parked. HE OFFERED ME HIS TRUCK!!! Where else in this screwed up crazy world does someone do that for a stranger? Anyway, after I got back to Florida, I discovered a problem with one of the brakes that was replaced so I took it to my local dealer and had it fixed. After telling the owner about this, he offered to repay me for the service that was done to fix the problem. This kind of service is something I dare say you won't find in other places, but in Red Bay Alabama, it isn't surprising at all.
