Dr. Amsterdam is incredible--she's extremely professional, friendly, and patiently answers all of my questions during appointments. The office is conveniently located right by the 6 train and although the waiting room is small and a little loud (you're seated right across from the receptionists), I've never waited more than 10 minutes for an appointment and I'm always out of the office in about 30-40 min. Dr. Amsterdam always delivers my blood test results within a few days via an online patient portal and also communicates with patients directly via the portal so you can login and ask her questions without having to call the office. She's also helpful with referrals--actually calling me herself to provide me with the names and numbers of specialists to see. I highly recommend her if you need a new primary care physician!

After reading other reviews describing billing issues -- including patients alleging they were charged both directly and through insurance for the same services -- this pattern is concerning. At the time, I was very unhappy with my current PCP due to his horrible office staff. Therefore, after a bit of research, I made an appointment with Dr. Retsagi. The practice is very small. His staff consists of a lab tech (I forgot her name) and the receptionist (Rita). Both are absolutely wonderful and always give me a very warm welcome. The only negative about Dr. Retsagi is sometimes he runs a little behind. Don't be surprised if you have to wait a half an hour, but I don't mind. It just shows he is taking his time with patients. As for Dr. Retsagi himself, he is everything a doctor should be - very kind, gentle, and very knowledgeable. He truly cares about his patients and always tells me to call him anytime if I have any problems. For my pre-op testing for the lap band surgery, he left no stone unturned. He carefully reviewed all my lab reports and also ordered some additional tests. He is also extremely fast about returning phone calls in emergency situations. One thing I forgot to mention when I first wrote this review - Dr. Retsagi's business hours are from 12-8PM, which is perfect for all us working people. If you have to reach him in the morning, leave a message on his voicemail and he will get back to you ASAP.

I've been concerned about this in the past, but what convinced me to make this move was the following... About 3 years ago I turned 50yo and asked Dr. Retsagi if I should schedule for a colonoscopy, but with confident assurance he said the a stool smear test was sufficient. I asked him again, and he again restated. Since I did not look forward to the colonoscopy prep (which is, btw, not all that bad as I found out) I went along with his advice. At least once more on my last checkup I repeated my concerns and was again reassured by him. Then, about 3 months ago my heart sank when I looked into my toilet after voiding to see bright red water. The colonoscopy revealed long existing polyps that I had to wait anxiously for 2 weeks to find out were benign. I was furious! For another example, a couple of years ago I complained to him about moderate hearing loss and asked if it's possible I had ear wax. He looked and said I was fine. 6 months later I went to a specialist who exclaimed that I had a lot of ear wax. This specialist told me it was certainly possible for a regular doctor to miss this, so I let it go. My new doctor looked in my ear and told me immediately that I now have ear wax buildup again, even without my complaining about hearing loss. I am through with Dr. Retsagi!

We came all the way from the middle east…read more After arriving to new york, perhaps because of the long flight, she got congested and had a very bad cough. So we went to the nearest City MD near our hotel, the doctor seemed so terrified knowing that we came from the Arab region and started asking about MERS and things that were completely irrelevant to what was happening to her. Not only that, but he immediately prescribed her an antibiotic without any blood tests or thorough check up. So the next day she took the antibiotic + the cough syrup he prescribed her and her situation got worse. Way worse than anyone can imagine. Upon recommendations and reviews we contacted Dr Primas for urgent in-house care and not only did they give us a quick appointment but they also welcomed us to the clinic in case the time was not suitable. I am not going to take longer than I did but he actually asked about her entire medical history and was completely considerate of the entire situation and recommended a treatment only after assessing her medical condition. He usually prefers not to treat his patients with an antibiotic which is what we always prefer as patients so it was perfect. The antibiotic prescribed to her gave her severe effects and nausea so Dr Primas treated her with a shot (injection) and she literally felt better in 5 minutes. He was also kind enough to prescribe me medications to avoid getting a flu while studying for my course in new york city during that period. He also does not charge for follow ups after the first appointment, in case you needed to see him again. I left his clinic so happy and relieved and took her to the park right accross from Dr Primas building for fresh air, and we enjoyed the rest of our time together. If you are reading this, thank you so much again, Dr. I know who to go to, whenever I am in NYC now.

One may be reluctant to use these Assistants but I must say I found one of them, Dr Siclari, very thorough, very patient and extremely knowledgeable. Even when I took blood tests she made sure to call me up and give me the results. While she is young, she reminds me of the old time Doctors I used to have who knew you and cared for you with sincerity. With all these walk-ins popping up, some of which I used, you don't get that personal care. So don't have negative connotations about a physician assistant examining you. Rest assured if you see Dr Siclari, you will be seen by a decent, well educated and caring individual.
