My teenage son completed the intake process, submitted all of the required paperwork, and was matched with a therapist. His therapist, Joshua, was kind, professional, and had already begun building a trusting relationship with my son. Unfortunately, we were later told that we could not continue services unless I provided two credit cards to be kept on file for potential cancellation or no-show fees. To be clear, I have no problem paying a missed appointment fee if one is owed. My concern was with authorizing automatic charges to my account. As a disabled Medi-Cal recipient living on a limited income, an unexpected charge could create financial hardship. I offered to sign a promise-to-pay agreement instead, but was told there were no exceptions. As a result, my son lost the therapist he had already begun to trust and now has to start over with a new provider. My frustration is not with Joshua or the staff who communicated the policy--they were courteous and professional. My concern is with a policy that, in my experience, created a barrier to care after treatment had already begun. I hope Wave Therapy considers alternatives for Medi-Cal and low-income families so that other children don't have to lose access to therapy for this reason.

Extremely frustrating experience with WAVE Therapy Group. There is never a live person to speak to…read morewhen you call -- the phone is completely useless. The intake process was easy, but everything after that was a mess. I logged into my scheduled intake appointment and waited over 20 minutes with no provider. When I tried calling multiple times to see if the provider was late, no one answered. I eventually emailed and was told I had canceled my appointment 18 minutes before it started, which is completely untrue. I did not cancel -- I logged in and waited. Instead of calling to figure out what happened, they charged me for a missed appointment. Later I was told "Google canceled it," and now billing has to "review" whether I'll be reimbursed. Unprofessional, stressful, and not acceptable -- especially for a therapy practice.

I reached out when I felt our son needed someone to talk to about his feelings as he was separated from friends and sports, and overwhelmed with online learning. John was absolutely the best! Since John works with kids, he had a program suited for the pre-teen age group and their emotional needs/communication that didn't feel "childish" to my 10 y/o. After about 2 weeks (1 session a week) , our family dynamic changed for the better. And the next time we saw family, they commented on my son's maturity and communication style being leaps beyond previous encounters.
