Place has a cool vibe and decor. For a $30 haircut you get a very good service and the barber was talented. There were some communication issues due to a slight language barrier and that did cause my beard trim and haircut being not quite what I was asking for but still a quality cut in the end. I wanted a slight taper but was way more a skin fade which doesn't work for me. I didn't mind so much of not being able to have the light banter I am used to with my barbers in the past but did wish it could have been better understood exactly how I wanted things. Still the barber was a perfectionist and everything came out even and sharp. I am sure it will look even better after a week of growth. Today was my first time but I will give them a try again, but my advise even from watching the guy in the chair next to me, is to be prepared to put a little extra effort in communicating what you want. read more

Loved the place up until they completely buzzed all my hair off for no reason because the guy was too busy talking to someone else and had an AirPod in his other ear and didn't pay attention to what I asked for. Never apologized, never asked if he could do something to make it look better, just told me "it's not my fault" and proceeded to charge me the full price for this butcher job. He was more concerned with chatting with his coworkers and taking personal phone calls than paying attention to what he was doing. First off, shame on me for going here since the place opened and never leaving the review it deserves. Moving to Long Island in 2012, I needed to find a new spot as I am very picky with my hair. Aesthetically it really caught my eye. Sam was my original barber for years. Always waited for him, he takes his time and has great attention to detail. He even cut me for my wedding! He moved on for a bit (recently back!) and I've gotten cut by JoeBad, Alex and recently Jaoquin. All were top notch. I've continued to get cut by Jaoquin (as I am loyal) and since I had my son, I always looked forward to the day where I could bring him with me to get haircuts together -- bonding time! I have to say Jaoquin treats my boy as if he's his own. He could be a bit squirmy but Jaoquin has patience of a saint. My son actually looks forward to his cuts from "Wahhhkeen" and his lollipops afterward. The whole experience is always nothing short of outstanding. It doesn't hurt that owners Ed and Jessica are good people. I was so proud to see them on the news during the peak of the pandemic going above and beyond for their community. I have longer ish hair that I really like the style of and every time I come in I always ask for it just a half inch shorter, but EXACTLY the same style as I already have it. Simple enough right? This barbershop has gone down hill over the years. The barbers don't listen to you. They give you the haircut they think you want, not the one you actually asked for. Always throwing in "fancy" stuff that you didn't ask for. I've had to stop them from trying to give me a hard part at least three times. Once they shaved off my widows peak (I have no idea why), which took three months to grow back. For what you get, the $28 is not worth it. I have heard about this shop in the past, drove by it a few times, and finally decided to give it a try on a referral. Went in on a Saturday afternoon, 3 days before Christmas. I walk in the shop and it looks clean, trendy with Banksy art all over. Waiting area is a long cushioned bench residing in the center between two walls of barber chairs. Walked in to about 15 - 20 people that were waiting at the center bench and along side a short wall. Took a seat in the center area. One or two barbers acknowledged me coming in, no greeting, I sat down in the center. I figured someone was keeping track of headcount and order of who was next in line to get cut. About 5 - 10 minutes later I hear "NEXT!" from one of the barbers, a few people that were waiting looked at each other cluelessly and with head nods decided who would be next. Five to ten minutes later a women who worked there asked everyone if they wanted expresso or water, I kindly declined. Knock, knock Mcfly!, Mcfly!.. if this women is acting as clerk WTF isn't she taking a headcount and organizing the flow? "Next!", "Next!" as each barber finished, and we, like sheep, looked clueless at each other until one person was chosen by the committee of cluelessness. 5 minutes later, "Next!", I look the barber, I think I'm next, but who the fuck knows, I'm not keeping track, the barber see's me look at him and says, "I don't know, Next!". Of course , I guess that's my problem, right... pathetic. Someone else takes the chair. Wow, what a joke. You expect a group of 20 random people to police themselves? We're paying top dollar for top service. That doesn't only include the cut, it's the overall service. With all that said, when I finally did get a chair, the barber was good and fast. He knew what he was doing and I tipped him well. I won't return, and I wouldn't recommend anyone to this shop, unless you want to be treated as cattle. Yet this place has raised is prices, I still love the skill that is required to have to be a barber in this shop. Waits can get long during prime time after work on Thursdays through Saturdays, if you're waiting for your favorite barber. If not, you will be seated with one of their 12 barber chairs in no time. I've been coming here for years to the same guy Steve. He's great with beard trimming and haircuts. They have an espresso machine for while your waiting, tv's everywhere usually with music channels on. They take children, and women too. I gave a gift certificate to Mad Men in Wantagh for their hot whiskey shave & beard trim ($75). They didnt take appointments. Wait was long. No one there to help customers. It was a take it or leave it attitude. Difficult to communicate with the staff as that most didnt speak English well. Barber was indifferent and didnt engage at all throughout the service. The service was mediocre at best. I was so embarrassed that a gift intended to be a great experience was such a lack luster fiasco. Dont waste your money... it may be a nice looking business but the people inside are a poor representation. I wanted to try a straight razor shave for my birthday, but the Art of Shaving was booked up. Unfortunately, I did not see the other reviews on the second 'Mad Men' group. The barber cut my ear, twice, and then charged me full price. On top of that the shave really isn't much better than what I get with my cheap merkur and feather blades with one hot towel and two passes. There were also some very uncomfortable parts of the shave- particular when he used a buzzer on my face (why I don't know). After taking a hiatus from getting a cut from this "gentlemen's lounge", I decided to give it a shot after it's major revision of its identity. At the time the place was a bit quiet for a Saturday afternoon and I was extremely pleased that it was on the calmer side regarding customer wait time. Pros: Great feel and smart decor choices with mini kaws and banksy (circa 2014) art peppered in. Cons: Still no organization to the customer lineup. Customers still need to police themselves which in a way is an old school style to cuts. My barber spoke with his neighbor the entire time and did not engage in any conversation with me. I felt as if my cut was about 10 minutes which in reality is short. Over at Danny's Barber, Gary would give me a solid 25 minutes including a hot towel, face and shoulder massage, and a good conversation. I felt like I didn't really matter. At the end, my barber didn't even use a mirror to show me the back. Additionally, I truly think the Instagram attacks on Man to Man are immature and unprofessional. I have no background on how it all went down but there's definitely bad blood and Madmen (Ed in particular) is very persistent in damaging their reputation and craft. Also a customer posted a video with a more on the side of a negative review recently. Enzo, one of the strongest barbers in their family chose to laugh at the review. I think Ed should really look at that as that's a representation of their company. I want madmen to succeed. It's an original and upscale place for a barbershop. Unbelievably, last week the same Barber. I've been using for about 5 years. Decided to cut in the line for my comeover on the wrong side of my head!! He had no reaction when I told him he did it wrong. Now to giant Payne to try and fix my hair with my right hand like I usually do and it's a comedy act as I mess up my hair all day long every time. I touch it because the style is backwards if you know what I mean. But the worst part about this visit was. He literally walked away in the middle of my haircut. To meet some guy that had opened the back door to the shop and he walked outside with this guy and didn't come back for 5 minutes. Which is b******* because I don't know where his hands were. After a while and jumping from barber to barber, I was in need of a quick cut and mad men happened to be right around the block from my new place. I was hesitant but said I need it. So I went in and was seated quickly. Let me just say that my review has changed and now I think I will be using them as my home barber. From the last time I was there, mind you a different shop, but let me say the barber was excellent and it came out looking great. His suggestions helped me look better than I could imagine. Ok haircut at a higher than usual price, for a barber. I noticed that the barbers here don't really talk to the customers. At least, my guy ignored me the whole cut and the eight other chairs were pretty silent too.
