Came here for the first time about an hour ago. Stanley and Bobby knew it was my first time when I walked in and welcomed me. I have been jumping around to find a new barber shop since the last 2 different shops haven't done much to get me to come back. I saw these guys had some good reviews aoci decided to give them a try. Bobby ended up calling me to his chair and normally I'm not one for small talk while getting my hair cut, Bobby was entertaining and made me laugh quite a bit. So that was good. Onto my haircut, Bobby did a great job at doing what I wanted. My last haircut messed up my cowlick and Bobby fixed it as much as he could but also avoided making it worse so I wont complain about that. Gave me a beard trim and fixed my eyebrows. I used to get my haircut at a chain haircutting place and I wasn't too thrilled with their service, so I decided to give this place a try. It is right down the street from my church so it wasn't too much of a hassle to travel to. Stan was great. He was extremely friendly and accommodating. I came in 15 minutes before the shop was scheduled to close and he was more than willing to take me in. My haircut was 13$ (which is amazing for the quality of service) and it included a hot towel service. He knows his stuff and can keep a conversation going. Just left - loved it. Was just at a known Barber Shop in Merrick and it was packed and they had one guy working. I walked out - not returning. Mad Men in Wantagh - its ok - but costly. Feel like you are paying for cigars and espresso (which nobody has) and a pool table near a tailor area. So took the drive over to Bellmore and saw Stan. He was so accommodating and did a great job. I had to do something a little different this time with my hair, and he was advising me what to do and not to do; I appreciate that. And the cut is affordable! He talked of possibly expanding/renovating = good idea! Everyone should give this shop a try. And its in a great area; food/bars etc. Another plus was, he had Seinfeld on the TV when I came in. Just got my hair cut here for the 3rd time. This place is great for an inexpensive haircut with phenomenal service. I went in for a basic trim, getting the sides shortened - just basic stuff - but I felt like I got a lot more than that. Stan, who was the barber, was careful and very courteous. He engaged in conversation with me, which I don't tend to get very much, since I'm not really the type to start conversation with a stranger. It was unexpected and pleasant. Stan really listened to all my suggestions and flew with them, giving me a better haircut than I possibly thought I could get. He paid very careful attention to every nuance of my hair which makes the difference. He gave me the best haircut experience I've ever had. Came in here for a haircut a few weeks back. I've had my hair cut by family for the past few years. First time back in a barbershop. It was pretty clear. Stan was cutting a customer's hair. When I came up, I explained that I haven't gotten my hair cut much and I wasn't sure what was popular nowadays. He gave me a nice combover. I haven't lived in the area since high school, but was in town for a wedding and didn't want to go to one of the chains, so yelp led me here. The place was empty on a weekday morning so no wait for me. Not sure what it is like at more peak times. My Man Stan! Moved out to LI 2 years ago and tried several barbershops for myself and my son. After a year of searching, I tried out Elegant and never went anywhere else. My son has always been a pain to get haircuts. He was always afraid of the buzzer and blowdryer. Barbers always had to use a scissor with him being preoccupied with an ipad. Great little spot in Bellmore. Stan (the owner) is the barber I have cut my hair. He takes great care with each job but is able to do so efficiently and quickly like a practiced professional. Asked for a design to be done in my hair- no problem apparently. Wouldn't show me until it was done- looked nothing like the reference photo. Somehow managed to make ovals and curved lines when I wanted STRAIGHT lines and triangles. Charged me more than a regular cut too; now I have razor burn and a total mess design on the back of my head. Had to go to someone else immediately after to fix it, and it's still not right, but better than it was. Point being, they might do good regular fades and stuff like that, but designs- no no no. I'd rather you tell me that you can't do it than say that you can and mess up my hair irreversibly. read more
