I really love this place, both for dine in and takeout. The Navratan khorma is my favorite but their saag paneer, chili paneer, and vadai curry are also really special. Best saag ever -- not overcooked so the spinach still tastes fresh. If I'm dining in I always get a dosa -- so fun to see that giant crepe arrive at the table. read more

Madras Mantra is a classic Indian vegetarian spot! Their lunch buffet is great: $20 for a good diversity of choices from all over India. When we went, some of my favorites were the mushroom manchurian, crispy vadas & hot rasam, methi paneer, and eggplant & potato curry. Can't forget the great desserts either: gulab jamun, kheer, and fruit salad. Only thing that's missing that I'd love is a chaat station. Service was fast, with steaming food being refilled regularly. What can I say. Every weekend I am craving their buffet and it is a treat. Get there a little early - around noon to prevent rush hour - around 1pm. You pay at the entrance (and don't forget to order your filter coffee too). Their menu is quite plentiful with a huge selection of options (all vegetarian ofcourse). Some staples: Masala dosa, idli, wada, fruit custard but they have different North Indian and South Indian menu items in addition. Flavor is bang on, food is hot and replenished often. I'd say roughly 20 items to chose from - which is a lot. I always go there hungry and come back stuffed. You cannot go wrong - for the price ($20 bucks or so) it's a steal. Low key, casual environment so don't expect much - just go with an empty belly and you won't be disappointed! read more

Solid food! First time here. I was really excited to have so many options as a vegan. I also just love Indian food so it was good to try a new-to-me spot. I'm so boring and get the same few things, but my friend and I did try the medu vada and I rly enjoyed them! What a nice soft texture inside and the three chutneys were delicious, offering a good balance of sweet, spicy and herby. For my main, I had the tadka dal. I asked for spicy and the level was perfect for me. Consistency was good, runny enough to dip the naan in, while still having some substance from the lentils. I have no complaints. This should be a solid four stars. But I must leave it at a two for two reasons: First: My water glass should never get empty. Two: There looks to be a serious mold or mildew problem occurring in the ceiling. I had to wonder what the interior of the HVAC looked like. Frightening. If I'm allowed a third reason, I would say that the buffet is expensive considering it is strictly vegetarian. The food was good. I'm a fan of vegetarian cuisine. And the buffet here, as I said before, should be a solid four stars. But $18 does seem a bit much. read more

This is one of my favorite places to eat when I'm either working in the area or even just going north on 285 at the right time. I had another great vegetarian lunch there today. The gentleman that works the counter is always very kind and is starting to recognize me. They do a great job keeping the buffet well stocked. I have gone to this restaurant several times for lunch buffet. The food have tasted good in most cases. Compare to other Indian restaurants in the area, their food is not creamy. The food consists of north and south Indian items. Although there is not much in terms of service during buffet, used plates are taken away quickly. I've been to the Marietta location, but this was my first time here. There are of course numerous other Indian restaurants in the area, but this one offers a distinctive and large South Indian menu that I think is well worth trying. It wasn't the most amazing service experience as they were struggling to open up on time and no one was rushing over to take my order, but the food itself delivered. I'd never had an idli in chaat form, but that delivered an interesting experience heavy on the yogurt. Of their numerous dosas, I ordered the house special, and it was indeed a special filling with delightful black chickpeas, mung bean sprouts, fried noodles, and all manner of flavors. And that's before you start adding in the chutneys and sambar. These things are an embarrassment of riches when done right. So much flavor. read more

The lunch buffet at Madras Mantra is a must-visit, even for the omnivores. I knew immediately upon pulling up that this was going to be great, based on the number of grandmas and grandpas waiting with their families to be seated. While it is really popular and the size of the waiting crowd might be intimidating, the space is actually huge and the line moves quickly for a small group. The line system is also really well organized--they just take your name and number and text you when it's your turn to be seated. They estimated a 15-minute wait for us but we only ended up waiting about 5 minutes. The buffet itself is pretty self explanatory. They have a lot to choose from, and I went for about 3.5 trips to the buffet. Definitely use the small metal bowls they provide for the soupier items, so that your plate isn't totally swimming. My favorites were the dal tadka, the paneer dish, and the biryani. I also appreciated the variety of condiments they had including various chutneys and, my favorite, mango pickle. It's lively in the restaurant so I wouldn't say it's a quiet or relaxing dining experience, but it's certainly a fun and tasty experience and very worth the reasonable price. read more

Madras Mantra has quickly become my new favorite Indian spot in ATL based on my recent takeout order. I had visited this spot in person years ago and fondly remembered their impressive dosa, so decided to try it again for a cold night's treat. The paneer makhani was perfect, and the dal was spectacular and well-portioned. But by far, the winner here was the breads. Their freshly baked, chewy, and perfectly charred naan and paratha made for a complete meal that far exceeded the usual takeout standards. I can't wait to order again. read more

We were visiting Atlanta and wanted to buy a vegetarian meal with no onion/no garlic/no potato (jain option). I ordered a mixed veg utthapam to go and I was pleasantly surprised to find cabbage/bell peppers/carrots in the uttapam. South Indian restuarants in California use frozen veggies in utthapam. The service was good but the food wasn't really worth it. The food did not seem to have lots of flavor, it was just incredibly salty and spicy. I love spice, but NOT when there isn't any flavor to savor the food. The paneer masala did not have it. Also the food gave me the runs, and I am used to eating spicy foods so that was also strange. We came here after many years. The daal fry and papdi chat were great dishes! Very flavorful. We made a reservation to eat at 7:30. They close at 9- and want everyone out right at when they close so you are expected to finish your meal before that time. We had one server tell us they were about to close and asked us to wrap up quickly. We ended up leaving the restaurant hy 8:45 and noticed that they asked many of the other guests to do the same. So before 9 they closed and by 9pm on the dot the staff locked up and left. The food was ok- but the service wasn't great and a bit extreme for a weeknight. Lovely shop out off to the side of a mall but totally worth the stop in. Service was great. The food was stunning. Everyone in our large party commented on good it was. I don't know if I was just a spoiled kid or what, but the food here now is the best South Indian food I've had outside of India! So so so glad I came for the lunch buffet today. Lunch buffet was really good. It was all vegetarian. Included appetizers, mains, sides and desserts. The weekday price is $12.99 but weekend is $17.99. Plenty of servers to take away plates, fill water, and replenish food items. My favorite item was the masala dosa, but honestly everything was so good. This is silly, but my one small complaint was that the napkins they provide are terrible, basically one ply tissue paper. Madras mantra is easily one of my favorite South Indian restaurants in the US! As a South Indian myself, it's hard to beat the food of upbringing, but this comes in quite close! Came here on a Thursday afternoon for dinner and there were quite a few other diners. All the staff working today were masked which I really appreciate. We were seated immediately and our orders were taken quite quickly. My mango lassi came out first was delicious, and our entrees soon followed, with my Baingan Bagara having a good amount of spice a! If anything, I just needed a bit more rice, which also was well cooked and had a great taste. But the amount of food is easily enough for me to have two meals! Many families came in as we were eating, so it could get quite a bit loud, especially with two quite rambunctious and crying babies present, but that's not the restaurants issue, just something to beware of if you want a quieter meal! read more

I was recommended by some Indian friends to try out Madras Mantra since I was really craving dosas. We got the kofta, garlic naan, pani puri and masala dosa. They have a huge selection of vegetarian Indian dishes. The naan was very garlicky, just how I like it and the kofta was perfect. The pani puri puffs didn't seem as fresh as some of the ones I've previously had but it was good nonetheless. The dosa was definitely the star. I was not expecting two dosas in the order. The batter was perfectly crispy and the potato stuffing was a fluffy texture. This place is such a great deal for the amount of food, flavor and price. I'll be back soon for sure. read more

I was visiting family from out of town and we decided to try Madras Mantra's lunch buffet. We were greeted by a pleasant man at the door and seated immediately. The food on the buffet was absolutely hot and fresh. The variety was very nice. I appreciate the clear markings of vegan dishes. The food was fantastic. Our favorite dishes were the sambar and the tofu Manchurian. Also, the naan was the best I've ever had with a beautiful char. As for ambience, the restaurant was quiet with just the right amount of lighting for an enjoyable meal. I would say there is great value for the dollar. Will definitely visit again! read more

I have been to this restaurant countless times, so I was surprised to find that I had never written a Yelp review. Typically, I come in during dinner time and order samosas, mushroom mutter masala (my favorite!), garlic naan, and saag paneer. However, today, I came in during their lunchtime buffet. Everything was so tasty and flavorful. It was nice to try some new dishes I had never had such as the "mushroom manchuri." I always have to finish with something sweet, so I got both the gulab jamun and the rice pudding. As of this september 2024, they started buffet again. Yey. Here are top 10 observations. 1. Same buffet like the olden days. 2. Same great taste and quality. 3. Became pricy. $18.5 for a veg buffet seemed expensive. 4. All the items were great. Except Puri. They should use good quality atta. 5. Service is excellent. A bit wait time but the front desk manages it nicely and the girl handled the crowd with a smile and efficiency. 6. Ambience was pretty bad. For a crowded place like that the temperature felt like it was way above the room temperature. I felt suffocated and couldnt enjoy the food. The temperature needs to come down way below than what it is currently set at. American crowd probably will have a bad experience if this continues. 7. Rest rooms had water here and there. Probably normal until you get a law suit. Hire more people before someone slips in that restroom. It is wet in a lot of places. People have no manners. They wash their hands and instead of drying it up using a paper towel like a normal person some folks shake the hands in the air. The floor is way too smooth and wet. I had to walk with extra caution. Went there to check a couple of times but the floor situation didnt change. 8. Items get filled promptly. Dosa is very good and quickly runs out. If you see fresh dosa grab that first before it runs out. 9. Veg curries are a bit oily. Could use less oil. 10. Sambar wasnt good. When you name a restaurent Madras Mantra please ensure that Sambar is good. It has too much tamerind and wasnt tasty. Most of these items go with sambar and if sambar is bad it ruins the experience. Verdict: Despite few minor setbacks the buffet is still epic. Hands down best Indian veg buffet with high quality and tasty items. Hope they take this feedback and improve the things. read more
