My friend and I had the best time at Madre Maui! We took the Barresque class with Roxy and it was absolutely wonderful. We were visiting from California and I wanted to kick off my birthday with a good workout and this class was the perfect way to do it. I'm not very experienced with the reformer, but Roxy explained everything clearly and made me feel totally comfortable. The mix of barre and Pilates was such a fun class. It is kind of difficult to put into words all that Madre is.  Amanda has created a unique environment built on human dignity, and you feel it in every aspect of the studio.  Every tiny detail has been clearly lovingly and carefully chosen to support every body that comes into the room.  Signs that let you know that you matter, that you are seen and loved as a fellow human, and that guide us all toward honoring our shared humanity as an important part of the practice.   I am big into accessible spaces, because it's one of the last things that really ever gets considered.  At all. Or it's an afterthought.  Accessibility is better for everyone.  And Amanda has thought of everyone.  The studio is set up to be physically maneuverable and the gentle lighting and other thoughtful sensory inputs make the environment remarkably inclusive. This studio is also super fun and SO joyful!  All of the instructors have their own really incredible personalities that they infuse into their classes, and I love how much that's honored as well. Every class is truly a unique delight.  And if you are feeling intimidated at all, just know that this is one of the least intimidating places to learn pilates.   If you are questioning whether to go, just go!  Go and try out a class.  Amanda does a great job of noting on the schedule which classes are good for beginners. If I could rate this place a million stars, I would! I truly loved my experience. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this Pilates studio in Maui. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed, supported, and completely at ease. The space is clean, inviting, unique, fun and filled with such positive energy and even more amazing people. The instructors are top-notch--so knowledgeable, encouraging, and genuinely passionate about what they do. You can tell they put extreme thought into their cueing, for every exercise. They took the time to adjust movements to fit my level and pushed me just enough to feel challenged but never overwhelmed. As an instructor, it felt so good to be a student again. I left every class feeling stronger, more aligned, and totally refreshed. There's a huge parking lot and great eateries near by. The prices of classes are reasonable and they offer a wide variety of classes for all levels. Whether you're a local or just visiting the island, this studio is a must. I LOVE this studio. My favorite class is Rage, followed by Tower. The instructors are empathic and unbelievably knowledgeable. I love that they take the time during class to explain the functionality behind every movement and how it's applicable to day-to-day life. I've been with Madre Maui for over 1 year. I started attending as a visitor, now I'm a resident on Maui and continue supporting Amanda's homegrown business. I've been to studios throughout California and NONE compare to the thoroughness of Madre Maui. Besides the instructors being knowledgeable and the pleasant aesthetic of the studio, I love their focus on inclusivity. I've been taking private Pilates classes for the past two years following a serious lower back and shoulder injury, and I've worked with several studios based on my location. Amanda and Roxy are by far the best instructors I've had--both have excellent knowledge of anatomy and are extremely attentive to making sure I'm doing the right movements for my injuries. My first Pilates studio experience! I signed up for the unlimited intro month to start. After almost one month of going 3-4 times a week, I am very inclined to incorporate Pilates into my life. It's a maximum 7 people class so you still get the attention and advice from lovely instructors Amanda and Roxy. Super helpful when you're new. I love the cooling towels at the end of each class. I took three classes at Madre Maui while vacationing nearby and truly wish it were my home studio. I bought a 3-class package during my stay, and next time I'll definitely book further in advance and get even more classes in. Amanda was my instructor for all three classes and she's fantastic--her teaching style is unique, incorporating physiology terms in a way that clearly reflects her deep understanding of Pilates and the body. Where do I even begin with this place, but more importantly, the people?! From the moment you walk into the studio, you are greeted with the kindest smiles and warmest energy. As someone who came in with ZERO Pilates experience, to say I felt intimidated was an understatement! But that all changed less than 5 minutes into our first class. Amanda is amazing and makes you feel so comfortable. She takes her time explaining and demonstrating steps, and words it in ways that people like me can understand. Lol. Her classes are fun, engaging and definitely leave you with a burn that feels so good! (both from the workout and the laughter ) And while I am still no Pilates expert, her classes have now become something I look forward to-Not only for the amazing workout I know I'm going to get, but because I know when I leave there, I am fueled physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. She brings out this crazy non-apologetic feminine energy in you that I can't explain, but love so much; and desperately need in this time of life! And the studio!?!? Oh my!
