This place is real small and busy. Parking was plenty. I enjoy the patio in warmer months. Tables can be crowded too close to each other because of limited space inside. Our visit was Monday where Margaritas were $2.00. Regulars were strong but so so on taste, Mixed Reg/Straw was decent, BUT Strawberry Margs were STRONG and tasty. My food was good average. Good/average is my rating for a Mexican Restaurant that is not remarkable either good or bad... since we have so many EVERYWHERE now. Good/average means that the food was worth the money spent and we would return sometime in the future. Acoustics are poor and when the bar regulars start talking "DrunK- LOUD" it travels. Have a few Margaritas to filter this. I want to sit at the bar for once but all the damn regulars are taking up the seats everytime we go. Even Monday at 7pm. Service was good. 3 1/2 stars total.

    Queso please!

Pretty impressed with this little joint. $1 margaritas on Tuesdays. Be prepared to sit very close to the people at the table next to you. THIS is part of the charm. I enjoyed my nachos (i individual big tortilla chips with a good portion of fixins on them ordered by 12 or 6), mom loves her enchilada (she eats it weekly with her golf club) and the small queso was just enough to keep my stomach from growling while we waited for our lunch (yellow, not white queso dip). I can't give a 5 star when a business doesn't take American Express but I will likely be back becusue the red-eye margarita is quite delicious and potent.

Garbage food. Shouldn't even be called a Mexican restaurant. Really tiny and bland inside. Don't waste your time.

I'm giving this place 2 stars just because the server was nice, the food tastes like its frozen in the back and placed in a microwave.

3.5-ish For starters, the name of this restaurant (according…read moreto its own sign) is Taqueria Carnales, not Carnales Taqueria (as listed on Yelp). Anyway, this is a place for people who enjoy highly flavored and spicy food. Seriously, ask them to go easy on the jalapenos if you aren't up for spicy. I ordered everything as is for my first visit for takeout and enjoyed it but it was on the edge of too spicy for me, (chicken grande burrito) without actually crossing the line.Very much crossed the line with the shrimp tacos, imo. I ordered the following: Menudo Soup (made from cow's stomach); Shrimp Tacos and a Chicken Burrito Grande. The estimated prep time was 15 minutes and the food was ready on time. It's a cute, small restaurant that is very clean. While you could choose to dine in, I didn't see anyone eating there and it appears that most of their business is carryout. Upon arriving home, I found that the Menudo Soup had spilled inside the plastic bag. Not too big a deal. The other entrees were packed in styrofoam containers. The burrito was wrapped in paper and foil. My mom had the Menudo Soup and said it was good. She had one of the three shrimp tacos and said it was okay but that she wouldn't crave them. The avocado slices looked very fresh. My mom loves spicy food but she commented that the soup and tacos were very spicy. As for my chicken burrito, it was unexpectedly spicy in a mostly good way. The burrito was stuffed with everything inside - guacamole, rice, chicken, refried beans (very little), cheese and jalapeno peppers. It was a delicious combo but I would have preferred the individual ingredients to be separate. The biggest problem, however, was that the foil wrap made it difficult to cut into the burrito without also cutting into the foil. I think it's more of a "me" issue that might not bother anyone else. Overall, I would order from this restaurant again. The quality is definitely way above Taco Bell, but it's not quite fast food even though it's next to a Subway. Also, I asked if their refried beans were made with lard and I was assured they were vegetarian. If I hadn't seen so many positive reviews on Yelp, I wouldn't have known to check out this spot, but would encourage you to try it too for high quality, authentic Mexican cuisine! EDIT/UPDATE: I tried one of the shrimp tacos that my mom left in the fridge. OMG, it was super spicy to the point of giving me hiccups. Plus, the spiciness seemed to come from a creamy cheese sauce added to the shrimp tacos after they were cooked. I can understand why my mom wouldn't crave them and I would never order them myself. Based on your personal preference for spiciness, let this give you an idea of the level of spiciness that could be added to your food unless you request your dish to be less spicy. Recommend with caveat re spiciness.

3.25-ish I hadn't ordered or eaten here in roughly two years…read moreand decided to give it another try. I had worked from home (at the library) and hadn't eaten all day, so I was game for pretty much anything. The ambiance at this restaurant is very festive and traditional Mexican. However, it is a very small restaurant from what I could tell - unless there's a hidden area that I didn't see. Around 5:15pm, however, I was seated in a small booth. My server greeted me promptly to give me a menu (which was undeniably sticky) and to take a drink order. I was ready for a small margarita by now. Another staff member brought me chips and salsa in the meantime. The margarita was underwhelming but the chips and salsa were amazing! I don't like greasy tortilla chips and these were absolutely perfect. The salsa was also spot on in its flavor- not too mild or spicy but with the right amount of zest. After verifying that the refried beans were vegetarian and not made with lard, I ordered the Shrimp Quesadilla Remello with a side of guacamole. When my order was placed in front of me, I asked my server if this was the correct entree', as it appeared to be more of a fajita style dish. I pointed out that I didn't see any refried beans and that there wasn't a side of guacamole. He told me the refried beans were inside the quesadilla and that he'd forgotten the side of guacamole. Okay, no problem... except that the refried beans were very sparse. The side of guacamole, when it arrived, looked decent but didn't taste as good as it looked... maybe too much lemon? (Plus, it was an upcharge of $6.00, when I just wanted a small side.) While the menu description stated that there would be onions and peppers with tomatoes. I wasn't envisioning the amount that was stuffed within the quesadilla. Basically, I searched out the shrimp and left most of the onions, peppers and tomatoes. There was also little cheese, which is something I usually enjoy in quesadillas. Some people might love this dish but I was expecting more cheese, fewer peppers, onions and large slices of sauteed tomatoes, with refried beans on the side rather than inside the quesadilla. Plus, even if the beans were inside, I expected more of them. The only way I can best describe it is as a burrito type of fold filled with fajita-like fillings, with a small bit of refried beans smeared on the fajita-like shell. Just not satisfying if you like refried beans. Or maybe I'm accustomed to inauthentic quesadillas?! I'm not sure but it wasn't what I expected. Overall, the restaurant has a pleasantly festive ambiance with decent service, but the food wasn't what I had expected... though it wasn't bad. I would ask more questions if I were to return. I recommend giving it a shot if you're in the Bedford area.
