I expected it to be the usual chotchky that every tourist trap carries but I was pleasantly surprised by the unique selection. They had lots of hand painted decor and glassware. They had some fantastic gifts and I also bought a really nice quality leather wallet for a great price. Everything in this store was priced reasonably and in some cases they probably could charge more. The cashier was friendly but left you alone to browse. I ended up buying 3 or 4 items when I expected to just browse.

Referred to as the "Marketplatz," this is a nice little park-like area along Main Street in…read moredowntown Fredericksburg. Often this is where the town will hold little events, such as the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony in December. There are many short walkways, benches to sit and relax, and plaques/statuary to read. It is well-lit with handsome light poles, there is lots of grass for kids to run around and get their wiggles out (plus a play structure in the back), one section has a roof and many picnic tables for gatherings, and plenty of public restrooms that are serviced regularly. It's an enjoyable place to come to when you need a break from shopping around! This year they did a good job decorating for Christmas with a big tree on the lawn, the traditional German "pyramid," string lights from the awnings and on trees, and some kiddie structures like a wooden train/sleigh/gingerbread house. There was even a small ice skating rink set up toward the back for a fee.
