Took a cab from the airport when our Lyft driver could not find us after circling for 10 minutes and eventually canceling the $25 ride to our hotel 11 miles away. This cab was sitting right across the entrance from where we were standing, so we hopped in. There are signs posted in the cab and on the tablet in the backseat stating how their pricing works, which I appreciate, and I did the math multiple times in my head and on my phone, while using my GPS to ensure that we were heading toward the actual hotel (I'm a relatively young woman in a strange city, I'm overly cautious). 11 miles, exactly as expected, and he followed the exact 11 mile route. Cool. Should have been about $32, even adding in for stuff like it being the van instead of the car, starting from the airport, etc. I wish I had been able to find where the meter was running before I did, but it was buried pretty deep in the tablet in the backseat, because by the time I found it when we were halfway there, it was already past where it should have been. By the time we arrived at our hotel, we ended up paying $53.27, which was a fair bit more than what I had calculated repeatedly. I didn't want to ruin our day, and I somewhat feel they are counting on people not caring enough to have done the math, but it's still a bit sketchy in my opinion. I ended up paying cash since I wasn't about to give this company my debit card info. Either I severely misunderstood how they calculate cab fare (which is double the cost of a Lyft), or he started the meter well before we were actually in the picture and charged us for the time he was waiting to FIND a fare. Either way, we will take our chances with Lyft next time, at least they are upfront with their pricing.

We called back to speak with the supervisor and she was incredibly rude and told us to start walking because she wasn't sending a cab. Then when we asked her name, she hung up.

I told him i felt that was too high so he called his boss who offered me a discount to pay $100 (which to me is still outrageous but apparently we had to pay the meter for his 1 hr drive to pick us up with out being told that ahead of time?) the person on the phone argued with me about the timing and said we only waited 40 minutes which is not true.. I called at 12:38, 1:08 and was picked up ay 1:40, arrived at 2:01 and was billed an outrageous amount. Being out of state, here for a funeral we have a lot going on and too many emotions to argue further. The driver and I also did not speak the same language so I didn't want to take it out on him so I paid and moved on. Saying he didn't take credit cards when I was trying to pay in cash. He then got frustrated and started cursing at me and tossed my stuff out of the car aggressively. Anyways I was passed by several taxis that didn't have a fare, however after a few minutes a Tropical Taxi pulled over and offered to help out, the driver was friendly and explained not to use the hotel taxi service as they are often delayed. He took me to my destination and even gave me his card which I called when I needed to get back to the hotel and much to my surprise he picked me up in less than 5 minutes. Eventually, he found me. The ride took 28 minutes, and it cost $33 plus a tip. The driver did make courteous conversation, drive safely, and did not give me a low rating.

I ended up calling multiple Ubers despite not having the first two benefits listed above. Prices were reasonable with trips ranging from $16.93 to $30.95 after tip. I noticed coming from the airport, I was charged $0.66 for the "Dolphin Expressway SR836 - 17th Ave. Eastbound" (standard SunPass rate) and a $2.00 "MIA Airport Surcharge."
