I'm 6'4" and it is very difficult for someone my size to find an "off the rack" shirt that fits properly. This is not a problem with J. Hilburn products because everything is custom tailored to your specifications. Lily Peaver came to my office took my measurements and about two weeks later my custom shirts were delivered to back to my office by Lily. I wasted time telling him my son would be going to court but not as a defendant. He would be the arresting officer. That I had been out looking for a lost foster dog the reason I looked so casual but I assured him I could pay whatever their prices were. We were promptly greeted by a gentleman, and once he found out we were looking for women's clothes, he summoned a female sales rep. She seemed to know the stock, although she did warn me that things were picked over due to their winter sale. Yet, despite her assuring me that all their pants were styled the same, I tried three different pairs and each was off in its own way. Some were lined, some weren't, some fabric seemed to show every curve (good and bad!), some didn't... Honestly, it was weird. My usual size was on the snug side, but the next size up was huge. Since they do tailoring, the sales rep was telling me that they could take in the larger size, but honestly, between a huge waist and being way too long, I was afraid that any tailoring attempts would result in Franken-pants. And then do I have to pay for said pants anyway? Not something I want to find out. Now, jackets are a lot easier to fit for me, and Brooks Brothers has some beautiful ones. I loved the gray with white pinstripes, and the check-patterned navy. But these jackets were FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS. Like...come on! That is an INSANE amount of money! I forget how much the pants were, but we were basically looking at a close to $1,000 suit for me, with who knows how much tailoring required, some of which might be included (hemming), some of which might not be (taking in pants waist). And since we were looking at having to order some sizes, it would be another two trips to Birmingham to have everything fitted and altered, and they really wanted online orders to go through the store so they could get credit for them. Honestly, just thinking about all the guessing, ordering, fitting, waiting, and altering involved, with no real guarantee of success, makes me tired. So while appreciate the efforts they went to in trying to find something that worked for me, I think the upshot is that I'm just not a good fit for Brooks Brothers, both in body and in wallet.

They have a large selection of pretty much everything, even formal wear if you are looking for something for a special event. Lots of shoes too. The store is in a good location off the road so it is easy to pull in and out. Ample parking. Staff was nice and not pushy so I liked that. I was able to browse and look through everything. My only complaint here is pricing. Everything seemed to be priced too high in my opinion. They had nice stuff but let's face it, it's still used. And unlike other consignment shops where the price drops after the item has been there awhile, the prices here stay the same even though there are different color tags on the item. No wonder they have so much inventory! I definitely would have picked up a few things if I felt like I was getting a deal but the few things I liked would have cost me over 100 dollars. For me, the whole fun of shopping at these places is to get some great clothes at a great price. If you don't mind spending the money, they have a good selection of items and you should have no trouble finding a few things here to add to your wardrobe.

When I scheduled an appointment to pick up unsold items, they returned my items that had not reached the deadline for pickup. On another occasion, I dropped off designer items and when I inquired about the money from the item I was told I had missed the deadline and the item was donated . I don't believe that to be true. They had remarked how much they loved the item at drop off. I believe they kept the item . Just suspect that I never saw my items either times on the sales floor. Of course I paid the $10 fee , their gain, my loss, and picked up my items. BTW some still had the original tags on them, I had never worn the items. Purchased from high end stores. Disappointed.
