This year the 5th grade students for 2025 are not being given a promotional ceremony for their…read moreachievements. Parents have been told that the principal and graduation committee decided it wasn't necessary. They haven't been able to get their stories straight. For instance, the graduation committee was disbanded, so the decision was probably made the principal only. We were told by the office that the church across the street provided a space for the ceremony in previous years for $200. I called the church, and they stated no schools are charged for the use of the hall. The principal did not call in a request, stating the students only need a high school graduation ceremony. Sounds like a personal issue to me. Unfortunately, the church is a non-profit organization and can't rent the hall to the parents who want a ceremony for the 5th graders. I think this principal is a disgrace, putting his personal wishes before his students and parents who want to make this celebration happen for the graduating students. Also, why is the principal taking credit for the graduation pictures. They were only taken because of one teacher who took it upon himself to take the pictures. Again, this principal has provided no recognition for the 5th graders achievements. So sad. Makes me wonder what all the fundraisers the parents contributed to were for.

I was so grateful to hear that they extended kindergarten hours to regular school hours. It would have been a huge inconvenience as I work and attend college full time. My son loves his teacher Mrs. Davis. She has a smaller class so she is able to spend more individual time with her students. I love getting his artwork and reading about his week in the folder she sends home every night. The office staff is very friendly. I very briefly met the principle. He seems pretty nice! Before we moved I checked each area in Spanish springs and the sparks area for crime and school ratings. Next to Bud Beasley, sepulveda had excellent ratings! The school and the grounds are kept very clean and tidy. My son's one and only complaint was the fact that the kindergarten playground didn't have any swings.

The approach to childhood here is refreshing and grounded in imagination and outside play. This is not a tablet and government lunch school! They make room for genuine kind relationships with the children and families that makes for a real and heartfelt community. I know that while I'm away, my kids are safe, respected, and cared for in a way that is even more kind than I could manage at home. Worth every penny!

My daughter has been going to Excel since kindergarten and I am happy with the school. The…read morespiritual component is the reason that we chose the school. Bible is a regular subject and there are daily prayers and a weekly chapel where all grades gather for worship and then to listen to an age-appropriate Biblical message. It's comforting knowing that our values and beliefs are being reinforced at school by like-minded adults, most of whom see their job at Excel as a ministry. Another aspect that I really appreciate is the small class sizes. There is only one class per grade, so my daughter has been with the same group of kids throughout her school career. This has allowed her to form deeper friendships than she would be able to having to start over with a new class each year and it also means I am familiar with most of her classmates and their parents so I know who she is hanging out with and what kind of homes they are from. Each teacher so far has had his or her own teaching style and personality, but I have no complaints about any of them. They have all been very loving and caring in their own way. Excel is non-Denominational and not sponsored by any particular church or denomination, so there is a diverse mix of students and teachers who attend many different Christian churches in the area. While it's a small school, it is still relatively ethnically diverse for its size. I expected that there would be a trade off with diversity when we chose to send our daughter there, but have been pleasantly surprised that she has never been the only person of color in her class and our interracial family has never once felt out of place or discriminated against in the slightest. Academically, I have no complaints. The curriculum (besides Bible, obviously) seems pretty standard and similar to what you'd find in a public school. My daughter is on part with her grade level. Yes, it is a private school. Yes, you have to pay money for something that the government is willing to give you for "free," but it's money well spent, in my opinion. We aren't wealthy. We are a working class family struggling to get by, but we are happy to go without many things to know that our children are growing up being taught about the redeeming love of Christ at the place they spend most of their waking hours because at the end of the day that's what will give them the best shot at being happy in life.
