Over the years I've come to know the staff and can rely on them for consistent troubleshooting and repairs. Their pricing is not bargain-basement, nor is it excessive. Quality work, always willing to make things right when things go off-book, and generally great people! These guys know their stuff when it comes to hauling cars. My 87 IROC Camaro broke down in Monroeville and I called Magill's to pick it up. They came with a set of boards to raise my car up high enough to get to the roll back. Most towing companies may not take that kind of care to haul low to the ground cars. read more

Magills Towing charges 4x the national average for towing. Unfortunately, I slid on ice and hit a curb, making my vehicle undriveable. The police officer called Magills without first allowing me to call AAA. I was shocked and horrified when I picked my car up less than 48 hours later, and Magills wanted to charge me $1000. They were clearly trying to take advantage of my insurance. Unfortunately, my plan had been to pay out of pocket, so they were directly taking advantage of me instead. While they removed the storage fee, their towing ($475) and admin ($325) fees amounted to $800. (According to JD Power, the average cost of towing a car less than 5 miles is $35-$125.) I would never allow them to tow my car anywhere. If you are in a similar situation to mine and the police call Magills, I would insist on them not taking your car to their impound lot and instead just moving it to the side of the road or to the nearest parking lot. read more

This company is at best an extortionist enterprise and at worst indescribable assuming you believe in Hell. If you are in an accident on the gurney and they say "We're going to call Magill's for towing...." You need to rise up like the Undertaker and either (1) push the vehicle to safety or (2) push the vehicle off a Cliff. If it was possible I would give zero stars. These people are predators at a minimum, and possibly even criminals. A family member was in a minor accident but police required towing the car and called Magill. They towed the car on a Friday night at 7PM a total of 1.3 miles. They are closed all weekend so no option to pick up the car until Monday morning. On Monday morning, we arrived to collect the vehicle and were slapped with a CASH ONLY $750+ bill. Charging $200 for 4 days of storage when it is only their fault that the car was there over the weekend AND charging full storage charges for Monday when the car was picked up first thing in the morning as well as charging full storage charges for Friday even though they didn't get the car until 7PM. On top of that they charged $50 for fuel for 1.3 miles of towing. When questioned about the egregious charges, they told us that we are entitled to our f****** opinion and if we wanted the car back, we had to pay that amount, in cash. They also attempted to refuse to release the car until they "had time to look at it" to which we demanded the totally drivable car back and took it to a much less vulturous establishment to find out that there really was nothing wrong at all. Wonder what Magill's would have found wrong just to excessively gouge a customer even more. Their business practices are completely unethical. Price gouging is by no means a way to treat customers. After I was injured driving the car into the flatbed (towtruck driver had me steering while he winched it up a 45 degree slope and the chain slipped and jarred my back) he wouldn't take it to the garage we requested for some BS reason. If I could give this company zero stars I definitely would. This is the worst towing company I have ever used. They are extremely deceptive, tacked on all kinds of additional fees, and my insurance ended up paying over $1000 for a 2 mile tow. The tow truck driver a shored me my car will be kept on the tow bed overnight and delivered first thing in the morning and when I called to make sure they had the address for the shop I was told by Kelly that there is now additional fees of $460 because the tow was considered hazardous because it was picked up on a bit of a hill and was in an awkward area. She also said that they is now storage fees and that my car had to be taken off of the flatbed because they got too busy and could not keep it on there any more. The tow truck driver actually had my friend get in the car and steer the vehicle as he tried to pull it on the flatbed at a 45° angle with one chain which is against OSHA Regs. This business is as shady as they come. I had my car towed there from a little over a quarter mile away and was told it would be $150. When I asked what it would cost if I picked it up the next day I was again told it would be $150. The next day when I picked up my car it was $495. I told them that their employee told me it would only be $150. Wish I didn't have to give this business any stars. My vehicle was involved in an accident and the police advised me that this business towed it. Ok fine. I call them up on a Sunday (a few hours after the accident). I was advised that I couldn't get any info until Monday, at 8:30am. So why is that...if you were able to pick up my vehicle, why in the world wasn't I able to get any information about it? An easy way to get storage fees tacked on I guess? Anyway...I called Monday morning and spoke to Kelly. She advised me that she did not know the condition and would call me back. Never received the phone call back, so I called a few hours later. I told her, since I'm assuming my vehicle is in rough shape, I needed to know my options. Her first and only option was this...pay $240 for the tow and give them the title...or abandon the vehicle. What's funny is that she never gave me the obvious option...to pick up the vehicle. Right then I knew something was up. So I told her that I would give her a call back. At that point I decided to go pick up the vehicle. This business is located on the main drag of Pitcairn. I noticed the lot...it has an autobody shop and sales lot attached. Interesting...that's why she asked me she about the title. So when I walk into the building, three guys plus Kelly. When I approached the building I could hear them talking. Once I went in, everything got dead quiet. No "can I help you?" Nothing. I told them who I was and that I needed to pick up my car. Everyone was in shocked. I guess the assumption was that I would leave it. I gave them my credit card...and then they said they don't take credit. Oh is that so? You have a credit card machine...you are licensed by the state of PA to complete inspections, but all of a sudden you don't take credit? Are you discriminating against me? I'm not trying to think you are...but it's just feeling that way. Or did you want to keep my car that badly? So I went to the gas station nearby and pulled the cash. And...the price all of a sudden rose to $395. But they did waive the storage fees. Ugh. This business is such a racket. My son hit a deer late Friday night, someone called this place and I KNEW I should have canceled and waited a n AAA but the card was on the road and unable to be moved so i thought, eh, how much more could it be expecting maybe $150. The tow was LITERALLY 10 miles!! They completely gouged us charging $371!!!!! I am in abso shock. I will be sure to warn all that I know to nev use this company and for all that did not know, AAA WILL assist in a toll road as long as the member agrees to pay the toll charges. Tried reviewing this place on facebook of course my review never made it. I wouldnt call this place again if I was stranded on the side of a dark road. My sister recently locked her keys in the car with her daughter inside sleeping magills came got her keys I was literally 10 minutes away coming 2 give her the money for her lockout and they towed her car. Manager said if you dont have the money throw her keys back inside and lock it up. Mind you my 2 year old niece is standing with her crying. In a span of less than 15 minutes they took her car then charged her additional gate fee to get it back. Running a buisness is one thing but treating someone who is a life resident of the town you operate your business out of is despicable. She simply asked them please give me 10 mins I have someone coming and they instead took her car. My friend locked her sleeping 2 year old in the car and called them to unlock it. While waiting for her sister to bring her the money to pay him the guy told her she needed to hand the keys over. This whole interaction was maybe 10-15 minutes. This wasn't an hour long wait or even a 30 minute wait for the $70 fee. Two weeks ago my car got towed to Magill's Auto Service. I asked if they could put on all new snow tires while my car was there. They said that they would check to see if I needed them first. I did need new tires and they quoted me a great price, which made me a little skeptical. It was $200 cheaper than the price I got quoted at a local tire place. When I picked my car up I was pleasantly surprised to see the bill was exactly what they quoted me. It is now two weeks later and the car is running better than ever. It used to rock back and forth when going around turns, but that is now fixed. Everyone I talked to over the phone and when picking up the car was very professional and friendly. Worse service ever! Towed a friends car less than a block then charged storage for Saturday evening, Sunday when they were closed. Also Monday even though the car was picked up that AM. They charged for 3 days when they only stored the car for less than 35 hours. Total rip off!!! They only take cash which is another big inconvenience.
