Maggie is ABOVE and BEYOND! My friend recommended her for placenta encapsulation so I called her to get more information. I was a first time mom calling right after first trimester, so at that point I had very little knowledge about what's coming. She went above and beyond giving me SOOO much information, about doulas, hospitals, different websites, lactation consultants, anything I asked that was motherhood related. She spent well over an hour talking to me and seemed very genuine. Talk about value! I ended up meeting her in person in hospital when she delivered pills, and she was just AS NICE and friendly. And gave me a little gift (artwork) in addition to pills I purchased. I used placenta pills as instructed and they helped me a lot! If you are hesitant, they look just like regular vitamin capsules. There is nothing different about the way they look, if that's something that you are concerned about. They also didn't have any particular taste to them, I would even say they had a pleasant taste and texture, and very easy to digest. I just always felt better after I took them and based on that, I will use them again next time I (hopefully) get pregnant. Did I mention Maggie is extremely knowledgable?? Maggie was referred to us to photograph the birth of our firstborn child by my doula and it was one of the BEST decisions we made. Figuring out the details of this momentous event was easy as Maggie was communicative, accessible, professional accommodating and reliable, all very necessary qualities regarding such a task given the unpredictable nature of the business. Maggie suggested we meet at our birth center during one of the prenatal visits which was a great idea. It was wonderful to meet her before the big day. My husband and I knew right away that we had chosen the right person to document the birth of our baby. We could sense immediately that Maggie has a tranquil, beautiful spirit that would add positive energy to the birthing room on the baby's birthday. I also felt comfortable with her photographing me at the most intimate angles since she is a doula herself and had just a wonderful energy about her. Very important. On the big day Maggie was an incredible photographer ninja of sorts. She was able to masterfully capture such intense emotion and countless special moments that has blown us and our families away and she did so with such finesse, grace and to be frank not get in the way in the birthing room. We are so grateful the the special gift she has given our family. Her documentary-like style is just what we wanted (as discussed), which was just perfect. We are moved every time we look at the breathtaking photos she so skillfully captured. I cannot look at them without crying (happy tears of course!). Time stood still because of her. So special, magical, incredible and amazing to see what I/my husband could not in the heat of the moment :-) You would be hard pressed to find another photographer who genuinely cares as much as Maggie does and it is evident in her photography. I have a thousand positive, superlative things that I could say about Maggie and how her presence was so... magical and transformative at my son's birth. I cannot imagine anyone else besides her being there and I definitely cannot imagine my wife and I having gone through our experience without her. Of the many serendipitous things that makes our birth story sound like a miracle, Maggie arriving just when we really needed her is the best. We had a five day labor, induced, and despite the duration and the pain and so many other things seeming to make it impossible, my wife was able to give birth naturally. The long duration of the labor pushed my wife and myself very far past our limits of endurance. Through it all, Maggie stood by the bed, supported my wife in the most natural, thoughtful, soulful and integrated way. She is a truly beautiful person, inside and out, quiet by nature, but ready to step in and advocate for the mother... to conspire to get things that are needed even if they are against the rules (like a miraculous hot shower.) My husband and I moved from Brooklyn to West LA in the middle of my pregnancy with our first child. Neither of us have family in town and having never been through birth, I knew that we'd need help. We found Maggie through our birthing class and it was a great fit. We met with Maggie 3 times before the actual birth and got to know each other. She prepared me as well as anyone can prepare someone for birth. One of Maggie's qualities is her understanding that sometimes an intervention is a good choice, even if it's not the way the birth was planned. She's understanding, supportive, flexible, informed, comforting, and a calm presence. My daughter's birth was far from what we had planned and hoped for. I was in labor for 40 hours and pushed for 4. Maggie was by my side for most of that time, sacrificing her own sleep on that first night to make sure that I was taken care of. We had planned on as natural a birth as possible, but I ended up being augmented by Pitocin w/the help of an epidural. Maggie help us ask the midwives the right questions and when, at hour 22, we decided to go forward with the Pitocin, Maggie was incredibly supportive and helped reinforce that we were making the right decision for us and our family. Maggie's also a fantastic photographer. She took amazing pictures of my husband and I before and during my labor and the birth. I'll cherish those pictures my entire life. They're amazing. I had a very tough labor and delivery - 6 hours of pushing, 41 hours total. Maggie was by our side the entire time. When I was laboring at home, she was available around the clock by phone and even came over one evening with dinner for my husband and I. She also labored with me in different positions before it was time to leave for the hospital. Once at the hospital, she never left our side, offering my husband and I emotional, mental and physical support for another 12+ hours. I had planned to have an unmedicated birth and because of Maggie's tireless encouragement and advice was successful in achieving 38 hours of unmedicated labor. When it came time to make that critical decision about how to proceed with medication, Maggie was thoughtful and sensitive in her approach. I never felt disappointed in myself or my birth experience, quite the opposite, I felt empowered thanks to her imparting knowledge and relentless support. It is hard for me to find the perfect words for the amazing MAGGIE ! She was referred to me by several women in a Babywearing Forum so i gave it a try and contacted her in the middle of my pregnancy. We have talked on the phone a lot and she helped me on finding a good community of birthworkers cause i had no idea where to start. I had found a doula but i wanted her to be my photographer for sure just by talking to her on the phone.The first time i met Maggie i felt her warm aura and i knew i needed her there for my birth. Maggie came to the Birthing Center and i didnt even notice her there. She hides behind her super quiet camera shutter and takes the most amazing shots. We talked about what kinda shots i would like to get captured and i trusted her blind and she got it all right. I ended up having an emergency transfer after over a day of labor. Maggie and everybody else was tired but they all came along anyways. She was and is amazing to work with. Having her on my side she also cheered me up and helped my husband through it as well. We all were beat but her spirit and beautiful soul was one thing that kept me going. You will not regret hiring her. All of the birth professionals i had became all family to me. I never wanted to let them go. The pictures came all edited on a stick and she offered an extra family session. I love my Maggie! I cant wait to get pregnant again to rock my VBAC with her!! Finding the right Doula is such a personal journey. It took us a long while to find ours. Many were lovely and sweet, but there was a an immediate connection and great rapport with Maggie over the phone and then once we met in person. They may have all been capable, and professional, but I needed someone I really vibed with. She even smelled good to me. (this is important when you feel like you are being ripped apart). In fact, even two months after my child is born, I still get the itch to call her up and have her over. On top of the connection we had, I wanted a Doula who could incapsulate my placenta. I didn't want to have to call yet another person to come pick it up. That surely was not going to be something I wanted to have to think about. Maggie was there for me and had the stamina for my grueling 30 hour labor marathon. Truly, I would recommend her, (and do), to anyone...however I think it is such a personal choice. I didn't know what to expect when I hired a doula. I knew that I needed advice and guidance during my pregnancy and I knew that I would need support during labor. Maggie exceeded my expectations in every way. She spoke to me in a clear, comprehensible, and logical language. She didn't try to convince me that I should labor a certain way--with or without medicine. Over the course of our meetings she demystified both pregnancy and labor. She was always available to answer all of my silly and uninformed questions. Maggie was a remarkable source of information on everything from exercise to diet to relaxation. I loved hearing from her during my third trimester--knowing someone was out there thinking of me and of what my body was going through was an important reassurance. When it came to making my birth plan and discussing how I wished to labor, Maggie listened to me closely and helped me decode my own desires and fears. I have to say, my birth experience was terrific. During my pregnancy I read a lot of stories about women enjoying their labor and birth and frankly I didn't believe them.
