From there, the procedure became overwhelming. I understand that certain tools and techniques are necessary, but the manner in which things were done felt incredibly inconsiderate. Instruments were inserted without any reassurance or concern for how I was coping. I was visibly shaking and crying from the intensity of it all, yet not once did anyone pause to check in or ask if I was okay. The experience made me feel less like a patient and more like a task to be completed. Compassion should never be optional in healthcare, especially during moments of vulnerability. I'll never forget the feeling, I now get extremely anxious when walking in.

We planned for a home birth but my son had other ideas & at 41 weeks 2 days Gretchen saw indicators that this birth wasn't going to happen the way we wanted it to. I went to BSW Dallas & Gretchen coached me through a 9 hr active labor, first no drugs then gas then a dreaded epidural. We were minutes from an emergency c-section & I was useless to make decisions. She coached my husband on what to do & say to help me too. Finally, my son arrived 30 min past midnight after a 7 am admit to the hospital. This woman breathed with me, held my hands my legs all while we tried different birthing positions. Without her beside me I know for a fact my son would have been a c-section delivery & this would have been a worse experience than my first. Gretchen is worth every fee, before during & after delivery. I can't thank her enough for helping deliver my son; my 11 yr wait 'God Gift' safetly. - We didn't qualify for Medicaid but couldn't afford out of pocket insurance. The labor & delivery dept. in our town & 2 others nearby had closed almost a decade previously. So, we sold my car to pay 80% of the global fee & did a payment plan for the remainder. Anything to avoid a hospital bill. Which we did wind up incurring anyway but Gretchen still stayed by my side throughout. This woman is a Godsend.
