The rooms are clean, spacious, extremely affordable, and the staff is 5-star, especially the late night host, Chris. The professionalism, kindness, and consideration at this hotel are as spot-on as their location for travelers in the crossroads. Plus, the pool is very clean and quaint. The most special part of this unique location is the glorious, massive crucifix, which is lit up and can be seen from the freeway. There is a magnificent sitting area, pristinely unkept, with plenty of benches, Bible verses, and the ability to enjoy a quiet corner at night. Christian families who take an extra moment in the morning will be particularly pleased with this location. IHG should use this as a model location for HI-Express

Disabled Veteran Files ADA Complaint Against Mississippi Hotel Over Service Dog Access…read more WINONA, MS (July 2025) - A family reunion turned sour for Disabled American Veteran and retired federal employee William F. McCasland, who alleges he was discriminated against by hotel staff at the Holiday Inn Express North in Winona, Mississippi, due to the presence of his fully trained service dog, Toby. McCasland, who traveled from Connecticut with his wife Karen and their service dog, described an "unwelcoming and distressing" encounter with hotel management on July 19th, after initially enjoying smooth check-in and communal dining experiences. Despite wearing veteran apparel and receiving gratitude from fellow guests, McCasland says hotel staff targeted him and told him he could not remain in the dining area with his service dog--a clear violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which mandates public access for service animals in dining and other communal spaces. "I kindly explained the law," said McCasland. "But the hotel clerk insisted it was 'policy,' and asked me to leave. It was deeply unsettling. My service dog is trained to help me manage anxiety. The ordeal triggered the very symptoms he is meant to help me control." McCasland noted the inconsistency among staff: while the manager, identified only by a wall plaque as Mary Graydon, stated dogs were not allowed in dining areas, other clerks had previously not objected to his presence. After reaching out to IHG's corporate office that same day, he was told the matter would be handled by local hotel management--yet received no callback, resolution, or accommodation. "This wasn't about noise or disruption," McCasland added. "It was a failure to uphold federal law and provide reasonable accommodation. Families gather, stories are shared--and veterans like myself rely on the protections the ADA guarantees." He reports that his final day at the hotel brought only vague assurances: he could eat breakfast as long as "no one complained." But as McCasland points out, ADA guidelines explicitly state that fear of dogs or allergy concerns are not valid grounds for denying access to a service animal. Now pursuing legal action and having filed complaints with both the Department of Justice and ADA authorities, McCasland hopes sharing his story will raise awareness and drive accountability across the hospitality industry. "Service dog discrimination is real. I want others to know their rights--and I want businesses to respect them."

There is a small store for snacks. Coffee and tea options in lobby with a nice relaxing sitting area with a large flat screen tv. The inside corridor provided a warm temperature compared to the outside cold. Hallways had clean modern carpet and decor. The room provided a couch, desk and king size bed. Two large windows and 60-65 inch flat screen on a swivel stand to view from living room or bedroom. Large open area with mini fridge, coffee maker, blow dryer and pump style body wash, shampoo and conditioner. Hot breakfast buffet offering eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, bread goods, oatmeal,, cereal and yogurts. With a large area to eat and catch the news. I thought this was a very comfortable, affordable and enjoyable stay. We will stay here whenever we come through Grenada.

The toilet appeared as though it had not been properly cleaned or updated since the hotel was built, with significant buildup around the rim. The floors and the overall state of the bathroom were similarly revolting. I have taken photos of these conditions and would be happy to provide them as evidence of the state of the room. It is ridiculous to expect a guest to pay full price for a room in this condition. Regardless of the location, guests deserve a sanitary environment, and this stay fell far below any reasonable standard. I can honestly say that I never intend to stay at this hotel again. You need to do better for your guests. I promise you the CEO or the FCO or the COO. Would never live in this type of condition. Never so why should we pay a monthly fee or weekly fee or daily fee to live in this type of condition? While there are making millions off the guess. I'm living in the fancy homes in mansions. They want us to live like this. Give the hotels a great 5 or fours and walk away. I don't say nothing with this. We need to do better this is ridiculous. This should not be. A condition of a hotel, will you have to leave your head? I use the bathroom or the ironing board or the iron. I would not recommend this hotel in this condition. Do better test, do better.

No beds were made, no trash was removed; they just took the towels. When I tried to get more, I was told, "We don't have any, we don't know where they are, and we don't know when we will have more." Two days later, still no towels, and the trash remains uncollected despite being advised to leave it outside the door. The parking lot is filthy, with drug paraphernalia and dirty diapers left in parking spots. Even the pancake machine was out of order. Under the entertainment center was filthy, and we found a pair of someone else's underwear behind the dresser. To top it all off, the toilet seat in our room was broken. The fire alarm went off during our first day at 6 AM, presumably from the smell of marijuana in the halls--note this hotel is "smoke-free," but I guess drugs are excluded. You could easily find the source if desired by following the smell. Staff is also impossible to find; I had to hunt in the back for someone to assist--luckily, they eventually added a bell. One bright spot - the staff seems friendly - just don't ask for anything. I strongly suggest any other local hotel--they have to be better.

Probably 4 stars.... That's what I would say with no outside agitators, but I got locked out of my room because the key would not open my door TWICE in 18 hours. I find that extraordinarily frustrating. You drop one star for that. The first time was when I checked in. I dropped off my luggage in my room, and went to park my car. Got back to enter to get ready for dinner... Nothing. The second time was at 6:15 in the morning after I was walking on the treadmill and all sweaty. Both times I had to go back down and get new keys. Ugh. This has never happened anywhere I have stayed before. For credits sake... The place was once a really nice hotel. Time has taken its toll for sure. It needs a renovation badly. Quick search yields this info: The Alluvian Hotel in Greenwood, Mississippi, originally opened in 2003 following an extensive gut renovation and remodeling of the historic 1917 Hotel Irving. The property underwent updates to its lobby to refresh the space, but no full-scale structural remodeling or renovation project has occurred since its initial creation. Nothing done in 23 years.... That checks. Lobby looks pretty good and the event space did us just fine for the outing we had there. Room was cleanish. I imagine the best it could be. I am a bit hotel snobbish so take all this as you will. The oldness of it shows on stuff like the shower door hinges being rusty and the glass on the door hazy and unable to see through in most spots. The thermostat was retro baby! The carpets were dirty and worn. Overall, just dated. I get it. It's in Greenwood, MS and it's most definitely the nicest place in town for sure. It's located right across the street from the Viking Cooking School and what appears to be the corporate headquarters for Viking Appliances. Bed was comfortable at least. Old ass thermostat and AC worked like a champ! It was about 61 when I woke up and my wrist temp overnight was a full half degree below average. Take that utility bill! Food was not that good. I had breakfast and lunch there. I didn't eat much of it. I am also a food snob it seems. Everyone else seemed to enjoy it, so that probably is all on me. Will I ever return? Who knows? It may be in the stars. Guess who won't be paying for it if I do?? '26 - 71
