I scheduled a deep clean and 2 hours organizing session earlier in May. They initially canceled the night before, but then sent a text day of that they could still make the cleaning. I was told there would but be enough time for the organizing portion, but was still charged despite not receiving the service. I have called back several times to reschedule the organizing session. Once I was told they would call me back, the second time I was told they would send someone out, but they never showed up. I now keep getting sent to an automated system when I try to call. I sent an email on Friday that bounced back. I am very disappointed and at this point want a refund for the service I did not receive but can't even get ahold of someone to process it. read more

But they instead were accusing me of lying and cursing at me and telling me how they cant imagine I live in such a filthy place. Why do I have to have this abuse hurled at me from the people whose services I paid for? On your website you show that you guys are professional and care about the customer and want my full satisfaction. I've used Maids in Black three times now and have never been thrilled by quality of the service. What kept me coming back is the convience of scheduling. MIB has an online platform that makes it easy to schedule and pay for your cleaning service. It takes no more than 5 minutes to schedule a cleaning. Unfortuately the quality of the cleaning is hit or miss. MIB always leaves the place clean but it is not nearly thorough enough for a professional cleaning service. Many areas go untouched. Often the cleaning crew won't vacuum or will leave items on the floor. At least once our trash cans were dumped but the trash bags weren't replaced. Dishes sometimes go ignored. A different cleaning crew shows up each time so the quality is never the same. The last crew we had seemed rushed and were done in about an hour whereas other crews take closer to two hours and do a much more thorough job. It all depends on who shows up. On a positive note, the crews are always friendly, professional, and arrive within the designated time frame. It is hard to find a good cleaning service and if you're in a pinch this will do but you will most likely be disappointed by the overall job and your home will feel like it needs another cleaning after a week. read more

Used their service once before and the team did a great job. Only complaint was that they arrived too early and it was a little inconvenient because I was still working. However, recently tried to use them today for a deep-cleaning ahead of having company tomorrow and just received a call that the team is unable to make it (no explanation why). I made arrangements with my work to be home and let them in, then they call me after the start of the arrival window... not before, which would have been helpful. They offered me a new time tomorrow but it really doesn't work with our work schedules and when my guests will arrive. Really not convenient and reliable with their arrivals. So, if you are looking for consistency, look elsewhere. If you're more flexible, then it's worth it. read more

Its unfortunate...I set up service twice in the past month, two weeks apart and they were both cancelled last minute. The first time I just had a feeling they were going to cancel for some reason and I was right. I was hopeful that rescheduling would work out but after calling the phone number the morning of the next scheduled service for hours and getting a busy signal, I started to get a bad feeling. Low and behold, I received a text during their anticipated arrival window at the last minute saying they would need to cancel. The company seems unreliable and I wont try again. read more

I had used this company for years and they have really gone downhill. Initially the issues were teams just not showing up on time, or at all, or significantly late with no communication. Then the quality of work declined significantly, things just weren't cleaned. The floor wasn't being mopped, there was still dust on stuff. My things were being moved and rearranged beyond what I would say was necessary. Anytime I complained my concerns were not really taken seriously. I had one team break something and try to hide it. Another team broke something and after that incident (it was something expensive) the admin told me they didn't have a team available who "wouldn't break things." I never got a true apology or any indication that breaking something and lying about it was not a great business practice. There are many other cleaning services in the area that will do a better job and charge less. read more

I hired Maids in Black to do a deep clean of my apartment as we moved out, and they did a fantastic job. Not only did they work on a Sunday, but they arrived on time, communicated well, worked quickly and thoroughly, and left no stone unturned. I appreciated that I was able to book and pay online, and not have to worry about paying the cleaners as I left. I did want a way to tip them some more, as we didn't have as much cash as I would have preferred to give them. Terrible, terrible, terrible! Even after they came back for a second time, it was terrible. I just moved in and they were doing a move in clean for a 4 story townhome. They didn't even bring a vacuum with an attachment for stairs. I paid extra for cabinet cleaning and I had to show them how to clean the cabinet. Used the same rag from the bathroom in my kitchen and refrigerator. They did not arrive on time. Customer service offered for the team to come back out and reclean. It was worse the second time. I don't know what they touched or ruined so I have to take all the dishes out to clean them. So I paid 160 dollars plus tipping each cleaner 40 dollars to have to do all the dishes in my apartment because they contaminated them. Best way I could ever spend a Friday night. read more

I have tried making things work with this company for years - at both my place and my mother's place - because the basic cleaning work is generally okay. Nothing special, but okay. Things were going well when we were able to work with a team led by Cecilia, but since she left MIB, everything has gone downhill, including some really serious security incidents at both my place and my mother's. For example, a couple months ago, the crew left my downtown DC condo building and left the door to my place unlocked. Anyone could have walked into my place and stolen my stuff, waited for me to come home with a violent intent, etc. Before I left, I specifically asked the crew if they had the key from my front desk to lock up when they left and they said yes. As it turns out, they did not pick up the key from my front desk. They got into the building by piggybacking and didn't sign-in as required by all the posted signage. I'm not sure why they told me they had the key when they didn't, and not having it is no excuse for leaving my door unlocked. They could have asked someone at my front desk for help to make sure my door was locked. They didn't (MIB said they tried but the front desk person was away - they should have waited). They could have called their MIB management to tell them they didn't have the key and have them call me to let me know there was a problem. They didn't. They just left the door unlocked and left the building without a word. I'm very lucky that I was not robbed or worse. After today's appointment, I found cleaning products missing from the cabinet under my kitchen sink. MIB advertises that its crews bring their own products. Apparently, in my case, they not only used my products to clean my place, but took them with them. At my mother's house, one of their crews took the key for the front door of her house out of the lock and left the house with it - while my mother was home and could have let them out! My parents nearly had heart attacks thinking someone they didn't know had stolen the key to their home. Turns out that the person who took the key left it under the front mat without saying anything to anyone, which we only found out because we contacted MIB very upset. Leaving the key under the mat (where it sat overnight because no one told us it was there) is a huge security risk. I mean, if you were a bad guy trying to get into a house to rob or hurt someone, where's the first place you would look to see if there was a key? I'm guessing under the front doormat. All they had to do was tell my mom they were leaving and she would have locked up behind them, or at the very least, they could of told someone that they had taken the key and left it under the mat (like their managers, who could have called us). But, they didn't. I've signed up for "extras" like cleaning the inside of the fridge or the oven, and that extra work is often not done. MIB has usually provided a refund when that's happened, which is good, but the repeated failures to do the work requested is further evidence of their unreliability. I've tried to stick it out with Maids in Black over the course of years because the other cleaning services that I've tried in DC are so awful in every way. MIB at least does an okay basic cleaning job. But, there are only so many excuses one can hear and so many errors in judgment that one can forgive. Even if they did a stellar cleaning job, at this point, I just do not trust them. I hate to say that and I truly wish it were not the case, but I cannot continue letting people into my home who I cannot trust and MIB seemingly cannot sufficiently supervise. read more

I've used this company on and off for years, even having them monthly at several points throughout that time. They used to be great, however, they have really gone downhill. Pretty much every time I've used them over the past year, there's been an issue of either missing things that need to be cleaned, breaking dishes, extreme lateness, and even a couple no-shows! However, I've let it go up until this time because they were often available last minute and the customer service after the fact really did try to do due diligence via discounts or free re-dos. But, this last time was just too much. I was initially told that the team was running late. Ok, at least they told me. Then the team was having trouble parking, so I directed them to use our building's driveway, which I had previously confirmed with building management was allowed. Then, they claimed they couldn't find the apartment, so I helped them. My boyfriend saw and spoke to one of the team members, who then stated she would be back (I assume after getting her materials and her coworker from the car)--ok, no problem. But then--she.just.never.came.back. Eventually, I receive a call from the office that the team left--what the heck?? I asked why, considering one of the team had already made it to our place. First, the office claimed the team couldn't find the apartment, which I told them was interesting considering we had seen and spoken to one of them. That excuse then changed to "they couldn't find parking." I then asked what was wrong with the parking I had provided them. That excuse turned into "well they were told they had to move." I asked who told them that, considering the management isn't there in the evenings, and, as I previously stated, they were permitted to be where they were. I also asked why they didn't call me about the parking situation or make any attempt to communicate with me about "having to move," since I knew for a fact they had my number (I had spoken and texted with the team earlier). The office finally was out of excuses, so they called the team to come back. I had tried to call the team as well, except they literally hung up on me and then stopped answering. The office then informed me that the team had "driven too far" to come back. Excuse me? The office added that, while these team members are employees, they "can't force them to come back" because they are "contractors." I explained that they had really screwed us, because at this point it was Friday evening and we were cleaning for out of town guests on the weekend. I was offered a midday service Saturday--no thanks! That's smack in the middle of when I would be visiting, and I obviously can't trust them to show up or do a good job. I was then told that they would "waive" my "cancellation fee." HILARIOUS that charging me $70 was even on the table when the team LITERALLY WALKED OFF THE JOB. I ended up having to pay extra to go with a different service, as well as get up quite early on a Saturday after a busy week. Frankly, this won't happen, but I feel like this company owes me the money for the last-minute service with Jiffy Maids! Shame I can't get my sleep back though. Supposedly, a manager is following up with me on Monday, since the office conveniently had no one around for me to speak with last night, but given their track record I won't hold my breath. Very disappointed with this service. Not only was the team late for the scheduled cleaning, but they clearly rushed the job so they could leave early. When I came home (less than 45 min after letting them in), I saw that the carpets were not vacuumed properly, there was visible dust all over some of the surfaces, and none of the mirrors or glass surfaces were cleaned. My apartment is pretty straight forward - one bed one bath with wooden floors. I mentioned that the bathroom needed extra work, and asked them to clean the shower rack. When I came in to check, there was still dirty things on the shower rack! Come on, you have 2 people just pay attention and do your job well! Is MIB new policy for their service providers is that they do the bare minimum cleaning services for high service charges? We had a great experience in 2016 with MIB but based on our service this year it is clear that their services have since declined. It is almost like the service providers are running a cleaning scheme; the first 3-member crew walked out after half an hour. While they were here, one of them stayed on the phone the whole time and the others stood around or just did light dusting, laid beds (did not ask to change sheets), mopped floors or lightly touched the bathroom. The result was a mediocre superficial type cleaning that ignored the time allotment and objectives I gave the dispatcher when I ordered the service. I complained and received a replacement crew two days later. The replaced crew was more of the same did not want to do any real cleaning either though this time out of frustration I called out their BS and told them I needed help and paid for organizing and that I could do my own light dusting and that they should get to it. One of the 2 crew members spent the whole time making ugly faces of which I responded to by letting them know this is my home and would not tolerate this behavior. I had to give them direction repeatedly and start moving boxes before they made effort to organize looking at their clock the whole way. If you are looking for deep and efficient cleaning services, look elsewhere not MIB. MIB has become a scheme cleaning services with quite a heavy tag. We are never using them again or recommend them. We used them back in 2017 and used another company quite a bit last year when we moved and wanted both the new and old home cleaned for the move. Changing my 4 star review to 5 stars. I am extremely happy with the team that comes to my home to clean. This past weekend they arrived a little earlier than expected and immediately started cleaning. They were early because of the impending snow storm we were expecting in the DC area. The two women worked very fast and efficient and even did a few things above and beyond what I expected. My sister lives 20 minutes from me and she uses a different cleaning service - she pays $100 MORE than I do and we have the same size home. Actually, I think my home might be bigger. So for all of you who are stating that MIB is more expensive - it really isn't. I have had 2 other cleaning companies in my home and I know that I am getting a lower rate with a great team of professionals. I had one company destroy my hardwood floors because they used a hard abrasive cleaner. MIBs are the best. I actually feel like hugging them when they are finished. read more

I had two cleaners from Maids in Black come over on very short (24 hours) notice to clean my 800 square foot condo. My usual cleaners couldn't fit me in their schedule so I booked with MIB. It took them an hour and I thought they did an alright job. My usual cleaners (which are more expensive) do an awesome job so I guess this is a classic "you get what you pay" for experience. My 3 biggest issues are that they didn't plug anything back into electrical outlets, they flat out misses certain areas (see picture) and some parts they did clean, but just didn't do as good of a job as I've come to expect from previous professional cleaners. Perhaps the last two issues are the biggest for me - specifically they didn't clean the floor behind a floor standing mirror, on window ledges, my microwave and the window frames. These are the areas I noticed after a day or two so I'm not sure what else was missed. I appreciate their flexibility in being able to schedule me in last minute and the maids were very nice, however I probably wouldn't use them again because of the multiple areas I found which weren't as clean as I had expected and the areas they missed. read more

I had some drywall and paint work done in my house and needed a last-minute cleaning to take care of all the dust and debris. I was surprised/relieved to get an appointment very quickly with Maids in Black (love the online booking option). They arrived right on time, listened to our cleaning requests, and were SO quick and thorough. Considering how dirty our house was, I was really not expecting them to leave it as clean as they did. I used them yesterday actually to clean up my furnished studio apartment that I was moving out of. I am so happy that I did! I cleaned the living/sleeping area myself but I can tell that they went back after me and I purposely left the kitchen and bathroom as is....it was as clean as clean could be! I'm a little bit OCD when it comes to my stuff...and when I say a little bit what I really mean is mess with my stuff and I'll jack you up. So, it should come as no surprise that I've never had professional cleaners come into my place, because honestly I'm automatically distrusting of virtually everyone I encounter. I do all my own cleaning quite religiously, because I know exactly how I want it done. If you ever come to my house and find it messy then it's likely someone else's fault. And yet, I finally caved. I let Maids In Black come and do a full cleaning job on my house, and damn was I ever impressed with the results. At first I wasn't sure I would really be able to tell the difference because I keep my place really clean to begin with, but after a total inspection I found so many little touches they did to really go the extra mile and provide a much more thorough job than even I was anticipating. My rowhouse is just about 2,000 square feet, and they managed to go through the entire thing, doing 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, the kitchen and all other rooms in about 2 hours. The timing is really wonderful if you're one of those people who would like to be home while your house is cleaned, and for only $150 for a place of my size I can totally see myself using their services again. Since my mom is coming to stay this weekend, and I'm looking for a new roommate to replace the one I have about to move out, it was perfect timing to have someone go through the real bones of the house and make sure it's spotless. Maids In Black did one of the few details I think most cleaners would overlook by cleaning down all the baseboards along the walls, as well as hand moving every bit of decoration I have (quite a lot) in order to dust each individual shelf and surface throughout the house. They cleaned out the inside and outside of all the appliances as well, and even dusted the tops of my ceiling fans, not an easy task with such high ceilings. Perhaps my favorite thing was the cleaning of the hardwood and tiled floors, which cover the entire house. There's something so wonderful about the shine from clean hard surfaces that carpet can never match. Best of all though was the professionalism of the staff that arrived. The two folks were very nice and asked me about any specific things I wanted or did not want done, and I could tell the care they took with all of my possessions. This went a long way in reassuring me that I could trust them to return for future cleanings, because nothing means more than reliability. I looked through the whole house after they left, sure I would find something that they had not done, and I found nothing...pretty impressive. Normally I would have a bit of anxiety in recommending a service to others, especially one so intrusive as being in your house, but I have no reservations about recommending Maids In Black and I'm just about as picky of a person as you'll ever encounter when it comes to what they do. read more

A tenant moved out after living in an one bedroom +den apt for 10 years. So you can imagine how dusty and dirty most of corners and area would be... Well.. this company just blew my mind. They are VERY reasonable (I called around many place that got yelp 4-5 stars) compared to other services. It was a last minute call but they tried very hard to find availability to clean the apt to meet my needs. No extra charge. Very punctual too. Cleaning job was well done. Like others said, they are very thorough and meticulous. About 2 hours of cleaning, the apt became so clean and looking new. Have you noticed most of these reviews are for one-off clients? We've been using MIB for a year and a half (because I've been too busy to find another service), but I'm now done with them. D.O.N.E. Don't get me wrong, their customer service is great. They have to be...they're constantly apologizing for their cleaning teams, who cancel appointments, show up late, break things, make household items "disappear", forget to vacuum entire rooms, etc. All of the above happened to us. One time I got a call asking if the team could come early. "Sure," I said. Then they showed up 2 hours late. (This was after canceling an appointment on us.) Another team couldn't explain how 2 totally inconsequential items that I use daily were suddenly gone from my house (and not mistakenly thrown out because I checked the trash). Yet another team who had been here 3 times managed to break things on 2 of those visits. So let me tell you how your relationship with them will go: they'll do a fantastic job the first time. Gradually the service will deteriorate (although they'll still expect their tip). You can ask for another team and they'll be happy to send one, but then the same thing happens again, probably with the assorted nuisances I've already mentioned. Good luck. read more

So I am a two-time user of Maids in Black, and I think I may have to sign up for recurring service. I live in an old townhome, and between a really demanding job and life events plus a cross country move I never really finished, things were getting overwhelming. The first time I called MIB, I was impressed with their work and thoroughness - my house was full of clutter, boxes, moving gear, and they still made it presentable. But I admit I cringed a bit at the price. After trying out Handybook and a few of the cleaners on Groupon, I hired MIB again after being disappointed with the caliber of other cleaning services. Pricey? Yes. (For my 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom skinny rowhouse, it's normally $159 before extras.) Worth every penny? Yes. It's a two person crew, so 4 hours in your home is more than enough time to really get things clean. The women they send are polite and efficient - they don't ask many questions and it is possible to work while they are in the house. My husband was shocked to hear them moving around the radiator grates, going into the pantry, and what sounded like moving the couches to make sure everything was taken care of. And they do an amazing job of dealing with the ridiculous amount of dog hair that piles up in cracks and corners - I have a large lab mix, and no matter how often I sweep/vacuum (yes, I bought a vacuum with hardwood floors - it is THAT much shedding) there is still at least a tail worth of hair piling up each day. (And this is after we furminate/brush/clean him.) When MIB comes through, the hair is gone and my house smells like wood cleaner. After feeling the growing sense of relief looking around my house as it went from chaos to clean, I realize that $159 a month is a really cheap price to pay for my sanity - especially when weekends off are a rare and beautiful thing. read more

tl/dr: they used to be good, but cleaning is no longer consistent and often skips even basic aspects like vacuuming. Used their services off and on for a few years. Initially the cleaning was very thorough and the teams even went above and beyond for time to time, cleaning or rearrange areas that I wouldn't have thought to be included in a basic clean. Two great examples, once I had all my makeup in a pile in a tray on the bathroom counter, it would have been easy enough for them to pick up the tray and clean around, but instead they took the time to lay the brushes out neatly, wipe out the tray, and put everything nicely in place. However the last few cleaning have been very sub-standard. The last visit (and my last time using the service) none of the rugs were vacuumed, despite my leaving the vacuum sitting out, the bathroom floors weren't wiped down, and the shower wasn't cleaned. One positive note, they have very responsive customer service, who try to address any issues as best they can. But it's not worth the hassle to have to schedule multiple visits just for one 2 bedroom cleaning. read more

Thus far Maids in Black is my favorite - their pricing is not the cheapest but is competitive for the area, and they are super responsive and flexible, which is something I'm willing to pay extra for. The services are very easy to book (online), and easy to pay for (also online). I've been using Maids in Black for about 4 months now, and have them come once a month - I do light/surface cleaning about once a week, and rely on them to do a deeper scrub. I am so happy with the service. Our 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo is now spotless around the clock - so spotless that you can walk around in white socks and they stay white! The cleaners generally arrive on time, and I was notified via phone the one time they were running late due to another job taking longer than expected. They are friendly, thorough, and do everything exactly as requested. When they are done, they ask you to walk through and check whether everything was done to your liking - if they missed a spot, just point it out and they'll come back and take care of it. You can also add on optional services such as oven cleaning, windows, or laundry (so far I've only used the oven cleaning services once, and they did a great job.) Highly recommended. read more

Perhaps my apartment was not messy enough for me to notice a difference but I honestly didn't see a huge before and after. I ordered Maids in Black to come clean my junior 1 bedroom/studio apartment. They were a bit pricier than other places, especially when you could get livingsocial deals for most other companies in the area. I paid $119 to clean my place. Unlike other places, you don't pay per hour, you pay per bedroom. I kind of liked this because it made me think they would be more thorough, rather than just cleaning on a time limit. This was not true. They left in an hour and 20 minutes. Other places cost way less than $119 for 2 hours at minimum! When I filled out a short survey and said I was not that pleased with my experience, their customer service immediately offered for the people to come back and clean again, free of charge. I was really happy with this type of service. However, then they rescheduled the re-cleaning on me twice and eventually just refunded my full payment because they said they weren't sure when they could ever come. Bummer. First visit - 5 stars. Prompt, thorough, friendly. Second visit - 2 stars. They were late, so we had to cancel and re-schedule. They were on-time for the second attempt, but the cleaning was not as thorough as before. Third visit - 0 stars. Well over an hour late without any contact from the company, despite e-mail and phone attempts. The phone line goes straight to voice-mail on weekends. Hopefully will be able to get a refund, but that is a battle for another day. read more

I live with two dudes and two dogs, so keeping my home clean is a challenge/nightmare. For the most part, I can keep it a few notches above Man Clean, even into Actually Clean territory, but work gets crazy, I decide not to spend my free time cleaning and before I know it, things are barely meeting the criteria for Man Clean and I feel compelled to bleach everything. It's a cycle. It needed breaking. So, before work got out of hand, I scheduled reoccurring service from Maids in Black. Guys. They folded my Kleenex into a decorative fan. Like in hotels. From top to bottom, and under the ottoman, everything was clean and tidy and smelled nice. The ladies who came were good with my dogs, too. Scheduling and paying online was ridiculously easy. So, so glad I gave this a try. read more
