The ice cream is homemade here, and they have a ton of flavors. They have a large selection on toppings here too. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Today, I purchased a large ice cream and the flavors I chose were cookie butter, chocolate cookie dough, and brownie bomb. I topped it with peanut butter. The ice cream is very good here! It's rich and creamy. The prices here are quite high more so than any shop in the area. I came when Yelp said it was closed, but it was open until 9 pm on a Tuesday in July. I got the Manasquan munchie and it was fun vanilla with tons of mix ins (potato chips, Reese pieces, pretzels, m&ms, ritz crackers and possibly more I can't remember) in a waffle cone. The ice cream was good, but the waffle cone wasn't as fresh as I would have liked. (But others in my group enjoyed their's). Great stop for a cold treat after bike ride along the beach and through town. I got the salted caramel ice cream - can't go wrong with this one :-). Husband got the brownie chocolate - so rich and creamy! We sat outside and enjoyed live music played by a local musician. Was a great time. Nice local, clean spot for ice cream. read more

So I was challenged to try their Ice cream. $5.28 for a scoop. I assume most people shell out 6 bills and put the change in the tip jar. Instead of the creamery charging $4.67 which ,with tax,would be exactly $5 and hence no tip jar change. Anyway, I got the cherry vanilla. Decent portion for one scoop. Maybe you get more in a cup? No toppings. I wanted to see if the ice cream stands on it's own. It doesn't. It just didn't taste fresh and I've had much better tasting cherry vanilla. Maybe because it's the off season or only being open 4 days a week has slowed turn over of their product? Is the Ice Cream covered at night so it doesn't get stale? Don't know. Sorry, a high price and claiming your ice cream is premium doesn't fool my taste buds. There's nothing special here. Just keep a $3.50 pint of Haagen Dazs in your freezer. Hudsonville Triple Peanut Butter Cup, Ice Cream, 48 oz $4.99 is our favorite. Avoid their cheesecake flavor, however. Sorry Ben & Jerry, you're too woke. The best ice cream novelty treat? It's the snickers ice cream bar. I'm not a fan of snickers candy, but their Ice cream bar is amazing. If you do go out to treat yourself, Hoffman's Ice cream in the Beach is the best around. Not only is the inside incredibly clean and spacious but the splashes of bright colors is just enough to b fun w/o feeling like I r in a fun house. This is the second time we have come to this ice cream shop (we live in manasquan) and they have closed down 30 minutes earlier than what their store hours display on google and Yelp. They turned away about 10 people as we were all discussing to the girls working at the counter that their hours on the google and yelp are completely different than what they display. I had 2 scoops of "dark side of the moon" which was chocolate cake pieces with chocolate crunchies in a heavenly chocolate ice cream sandwiched between layers of hot fudge and brownie bites. YES I was having a bit of a chocolate craving! And my hubby had creamy strawberry ice cream atop a wafer cone. This is probably the worst ice cream shop I've ever been to. It's so expensive that, as a teen with a minimum wage job, I can barely afford ice cream for both me and my two little sisters. One waffle cone of ice cream is $8.50! While digging for change at the register because I barely had enough money to afford it (I was going out for ice cream, not a 5 star dinner, so I didn't bring a ton of cash), a worker there told me that their ice cream is 'premium quality' and that the price is fair. To top it all off, when I got my dish of ice cream, it wasn't even full! My little sister commented on it, and the worker told her that they charge by the scoop, not by the dish. The workers looked like they were faking their smiles, and they didn't seem genuinely happy working there, although they were awesome people who I could tell were extremely hard working. In conclusion, it seems to me that, although the owner of this shop does know how to make ice cream (admittedly, it was pretty good), they don't have much experience running a business, and it shows. This is an ice cream shop. It should be a laid back, fun time to go there, but going to Norton's Main Scoop is an uptight, overall disappointing experience. read more

What's not to like. Everytime we bring out of towners, it's the first place they want to go when we go back. Great ice cream cakes, too. The young ladies behind the counter are hit or miss. Main Scoop used to be my favorite place in Mansquan. I was always there with my friends enjoying their amazing, one of a kind, homemade ice cream. When it reopened this week for the summer, I rushed there ready to eat my favorite treat of the summer. I soon discovered that there were new owners. I was eager to see if it was as good as the original Main Scoop; the place I know and love. I got a small cup with toppings. Usually, Main Scoop is very generous with their scoops and toppings. This time, I was given a very little portion compared to what I am used to receiving. I was immediately disappointed, but figured I would wait until I tried the ice cream to come up with a honest opinion. So, I had spoonful of my ice cream and was very upset. I could tell that it was not homemade and was just very cheap tasting in general. Despite the unfortunately terrible ice cream, the prices were the same. Spending $4.25 on a small ice cream with toppings used to be worth every penny for the old main scoops amazing ice cream, but now i feel as if i am wasting my money. 0/10 would not recommend. For anyone looking for delicious, home made ice cream well worth your money, i would go to Sundaes in Wall NJ or Hoffman's ice cream in Spring Lake NJ. read more

There are many ice cream shops in the shore area. I've been to many of them. And on a warm summer night you normally have a wait. Not at The Main Scoop. That should tell you something. It's a Tuesday night, 8:45PM. still 80+degrees at the end of a high 90 degree day. As I ride my bike 5 blocks to The Main Scoop I can't help but notice the many dozens of bikers-mostly teens but some adults out on this beautiful summer night. I arrive at The main Scoop and I am the only customer. The ice cream selection is nice, I go for the vanilla caramel crunch. My experience at the many other ice cream shops has taught me to go for the small. It's normally more than enough. Not so at The Main Scoop. My small was the equivalent of most others' kiddie size, but the price was right up there with competitors for a small-$3.50. It would have taken an enormous, stupendous, outrageous taste to overcome the price shock. And, It didn't. So I guess the crowds at Hoffman's, or Sundaes have already tried this place. You'll probably find me at Hoffman's or Sundaes, or Strollos or Maccanico's or The Beach Plum, or Dairy Queen or anywhere that serves a bigger small size. I can get a pint of Ben and Jerry's at almost any supermarket for $3.50 and I won't have to eat it alone. read more
