What is unique about Cookman that I haven't seen at many places is that the base of the vegan ice cream is different based on the flavor. This is key to a good vegan ice cream because it improves the texture of each flavor, and lets that flavor shine through. My first visit I ordered a black raspberry single scoop, and everything that our group got was so good we decided to go back the next day! My second visit I didn't hold anything back and got a PB Crunch milkshake with oat milk and vegan whipped cream. While the whipped cream probably wasn't necessary, the flavor and texture of the milkshake was amazing, and something that I don't experience too often as someone who is allergic to milk. read more

I LOVE this place. I love how they have a special case just for vegan flavors and I hear some people like the vegan ones and they aren't even vegan! There are so many choices that whether you are vegan, not vegan or gluten free, you don't feel left out. They even have vegan/gluten free ice cream cones, plus, they label ice cream as gluten free (always double check when it contains cookie pieces or graham crackers). The ice cream is the best I have tried. I have tried many places and always end up saying "It's good but Cookman Creamery is better". They rotate their flavors and add new ones that are seasonal so there is always a new choice to select. You can also get your ice cream in pints and bring home to enjoy but I have never done that. I always eat my ice cream there in the store or take it out and eat while walking around Asbury Park. If you go on a summer weekend, be prepared to wait in a long line. There is always a line. But, it does move pretty fast. If you are watching your fat or calories, they have excellent sherbet. I have asked the owner in the past about the lemon and orange flavors and he says it's only fruit and sugar. They taste light and refreshing and you don't miss the cream, non-dairy or not. Here's the scoop, the chillest spot in Asbury Park is also one of its hottest. On an odd Monday evening there was a line stretching out the door. If that doesn't speak to a shops popularity then I don't know what does. The wait was not long and even if it had been, totally worth it. The servers were more than happy to let us sample as many flavors as we wanted. FYI, the flavors on the menu may not be available. More importantly, there are MORE flavors in the display case than on the board! The variety of traditional and vegan flavors are insane! Inspired choices like turmeric, ginger, Belgian cookies and more. My highest praise goes to the way they made their vegan ice cream. They somehow found the secret to making vegan ice cream as creamy as regular. I swear I couldn't tell the difference. Of the flavors I tried and would recommend, "Golden Milk" for my real foodie adventurers, "Belgian Cookie" for people looking to branch out but not dive in, and "Lions Mane Coffee" for my traditionalists. The PB crunch was more creamy because it was a peanut butter base, the blue berry biscoff was slightly more icey (still creamy) because it was coconut base. If youre a stickler for texture i would recommend a peanut butter or cashew based ice cream! You can try any flavor you want before deciding which was amazing for my indecisive self! This was one of the best specialty ice cream spots I've been to. The fruity pebbles flavor was actually very good, and not too sweet. The crunch fruity pebbles was integrated into the ice cream perfectly. The other graham cracker flavor was also made really well. Both of these two flavors together made the ice cream some of the best combo flavors I've ever had. I definitely would want to come back jus to eat these two flavors again. read more

I was torn between two ice cream flavors -- the vegan cookie butter or the vegan cosmos (chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips and fudge). I only wanted one scoop. The person working behind the counter said I could get both. I assumed the scoops would be small, half-sized scoops. But they were quite generous sizes in my opinion! Now, I am not the closest thing to being vegan, but I am always eager to try vegan alternatives. I've never had vegan ice cream in my life, but boy was this delicious! I really thought both flavors were delightfully creamy. The cookie butter flavor was incredible. There was a decent amount of cookie butter within the vanilla ice cream. It was as if I dipped my spoon into a cookie butter jar with a small side of vanilla. So good. The cosmos flavor was probably my favorite, because I'm a big chocoholic. Super fudgey and left me with wanting more. The prices here are quite a lot for ice cream. One scoop was $4.60. I understand that it is a trendy place and most vegan products can be pricey. The price alone is the one reason I wouldn't come here too often. I'll stick to classic Jersey Shore ice cream stands because they're equally as delicious with a more reasonable cost.
