Nice alterations shop in a repurposed home off Madison Ave. I went in with a dress that needed to be hemmed, but was heavily beaded. I was disappointed to learn it was unalterable. Essentially, cutting the dress would cause all the beads to unravel. We talked through any options - we had only 1. Either create darts and "rouche" the dress on the sides (which would change the look entirely) or just leave it long and deal with it. The dress was lined, so I asked her to take up the liner. It was $30, which I suppose is good for her time, but in retrospect I probably could have done it myself for free at the library. The liner isn't visible, so it didn't need to be professionally done. This was my first experience getting jeans hemmed and I regret not doing it sooner. I can't believe how easy and affordable the experience was. I dropped off a pair of jeans and a jacket for work and she pinned them up quickly. She quoted me $10 for each item and let me know I could pick them up in a week. I took a shirt in to have a button sewn back on, and it was designed to be under the collar that had an elastic hook to keep the collar from bunching up. When she sewn it back on, it looked alright at first but when I took it home, I noticed after I hooked the buttons that the button was not aligned with the other, it was was farther down than the other button, which made the elastic hook rip off my shirt. She even seemed uninterested to help me and she wasn't busy. Not coming back here. read more

10/10!! I ordered my bridesmaid dress back in April for the October wedding. Well, since this is 2020 and we've been in quarantine, I put on some weight and wasn't able to zip the dress anymore. Oops. With no time to buy a new one I ventured out to Main Street Alterations in hopes for a miracle...and a miracle it was! She was able to take out the zipper and put in a corset back with a panel. Additionally she hemmed, adjusted straps, and let out the underlay part of the dress to give me more comfort. I was so comfortable all day through pictures, the ceremony, and dropping it low all night on the dance floor. Her alterations saved this dress. Considering that she had to rework this entire dress I was blow away by how reasonable the price was. I would definitely recommend Main Street Alterations. read more

I brought it in on Friday afternoon and needed it for Monday morning. The seamstress was very pleasant and made sure to have it ready for me the very next day! Decent place to get alterations done. I took a really nice pair of double lined dress pants there not too long ago. I can usually hem and do some minor repairs as well as some minor alterations on my own, but because the pants were double lined and looked like more trouble than I could handle, I decided to give this business a try. I took a Rent the Runway dress here last week to get pinned up for our formal event. I did not want it altered permanently, just pinned up for a temporary fix. The lady here was so nice and great to talk to as she pinned up the hem so I would not trip on my dress throughout the night! I highly recommend her. I think her name was Joon Hae (?) or something like that. I am definitely going back for future alterations. I have to say the lady at Main Street Alterations is not only a sweet heart, but my guardian angel. 2 years ago I received word that my grandfather passed away. Prior to that I had lost a lot of weight due to having a stroke and my favorite suit was too big for me now. I took a chance and tried out Main Street Alterations because I was pressed for time and had to be on the road in 2 days. The lady was VERY sweet, measured me to readjust my suit to fit me and told me to come back in 3 hours. When I returned the suit fit perfect and when I went to had her my money for the suit she said no you keep it and just keep coming back to her for alterations. In the last 2 years she has probably worked on 100 plus items and they have all turned out great. I will NEVER forget what she did for me for my grandfather's funeral. I took my 11 year-old daughter here to have a dress altered for a talent show, and the shop owner, Sue, told her she would be a lot prettier if she lost some weight. She then proceeded to tell her that she better not gain any more weight until her talent show, and that she wasn't allowed to eat any more desserts or have any soda. Unethical business! Owner does bad business!!! My girlfriend and I took a $400 dress she bought to get a couple alterations done to it. The owner quoted us $80 and when we came to pick it up she told us there was some "extra work" that needed done to it and now it was going to cost $120 to pick it up or else she wouldn't give it to us! That was outrageous. In my opinion the $80 was already expensive but $120, that's more than 25% of what the dress originally cost! All that we had done was tighten the dress a little around the waist and bring the length of the dress up by about two inches. I will definitely never return here to get alterations done and I would highly suggest anyone and everyone else to find a different place to do their business! Not to mention the owner was very rude to us which seemingly is something that a lot of people are saying. read more

I wanted an illusion halter put onto the strapless dress I found for my wedding. (Yes, we're talking my wedding dress.) When I went into the shop, she refused to do the work because "Someone your size should never wear something strapless." She told me to "go buy a sweater." (My wedding was in July.) I'm a size 18, FYI. And yes, she knew it was my wedding dress. I guess if you meet her idea of what you should look like she'll do good work for you. If you're imperfect, forget it. i went to main street alterations for my senior prom alterations. my dress was 500 dollars, and the entire staff destroyed it. they ruined the hook-in-eye, and sewed the under-layer of the dress on backwards. they didnt give me my money back and all she did was yell at me about how she'd "fix." it was horrible quality, and she did about 50 stitches and they looked like they were done in the dark. not to mention, it cost me 120 dollars before she even saw the dress on me. awful place...
