I want so bad to give these guys a 5-star review. It's a perfect old-style barbershop with only two chairs and legacy decor, AND when I stopped in without an appointment, they were gracious enough to squeeze me in since I was leaving town. So what's the downside? I felt like I was sitting in a political party headquarters with all the campaign memorabilia everywhere, and not in an "Ike Wins!" kind of way. My brother got the best haircut there. They have good prices and are very friendly.

My hair is seasonal, which means I get it cut every 3 months or so, and to correspond to Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. I pretty much wake up one morning and decide that "it's time". Since I'm thin on top, it's a matter of taming the sides and back. Sometimes I get a stray thought that I'll just do a Jean Luc Picard and get it over with. My Son on the other hand, has a heckova head of hair. S when his grows and it's time, there's a lot to cut. The Kid and I came here this morning for Father and Son haircuts. Our time had both come and since we were both staying in Genoa for the weekend, we decided to give Main Street Barbers a try. It's just a short drive to Gardnerville, and you'll find it in the same white historical building as the JT Basque restaurant. Main Street Barbers is drop-in and cash only, but the wait was short and $16 each for our "trims" was an excellent value and a great example of a really good barber. Best of all, when we got home, Gayle and her Mom enthusiastically approved. :) This is a small town barbershop, with 2 chairs, a lot of cool decor, and a Conservative point-of-view. That specifically means second amendment friendly, a high distrust of the Feds (some of which I share), and Fox News on the flat screen. We stayed clear of any heavy political discussion and thoroughly enjoyed our stays in the chair. Our barber (who I think owns the place) was fun and engaging to chat with, and so much so that my Son's conversation (he was first up) continued into my turn. David and I particularly enjoyed the stuffed moose head on the wall, the barbed wire art shaped in the State of Nevada, and a few cool rifles that were for sale. Plus I learned something about Stormy Kromer hats that I did know. I have one, but Gayle won't let me wear it. :) And just so you know.....of course I'll be back. read more

I normally go to East 50 in Carson, however, they were too booked up and one of my co-workers recommended Main Street. This place has character - I think my living room is bigger than the whole shop, however, it's in JT's Basque Bar / Restaurant, so you can wander in there if you need room. The guys in there have been cutting hair for years - and their experience shows. read more

I have been coming to this Barber shop since I had hair. I realize that living in Gardnerville, there will be a lot of discussions on right wing politics. I just wish I could voice my opinions more openly (it is a barbershop after all) Its hard to voice an opposing opinion when you have a Republican Barber holding sheers. If your a liberal, be warned; this is a right wing barbershop and they want you to know it. I will say they give Great haircuts though. And despite having an agenda, really nice people. read more

I came to this barber when visiting the area. I will say the owner, Dan is a great, friendly man. He is a classic barber. The kind of barber I went to as a child. Being a middle aged man, and wanting a Skin Fade, that is what I would get at my barber at home. What I received from him isn't what I would receive at home barber. I received was a stubble cut on the back and sides, leaving the top alone. He did a good job on what he did, but it wasn't want I wanted or expected. I went back to my hotel and shaved the stubble to smooth skin. It wasn't faded, it was all I could do with his cut. I also paid $16.00. That is more than I pay for a true Skin Fade at home. So it is every hard to rate the shop. What he did was a 5. Since it wasn't what I asked for, I would give a 1. So if I averaged the two scores, it would be a 3. read more

Well... honestly I was butchered by the guy who works by the door (Dan). But I thought I'd give the woman who works there a chance. Camille fixed by haircut and did a really nice job. I'd give Dan 0 stars and Camille 5 stars. She's the only person I'll let cut by hair. My wife says its the best haircut I've ever received. read more
