From the owner: Great News! The Rock Hill Fire Department Museum can now be open by “Reservations Only”…read moreMonday-Friday 8am thru 4pm. If you want to visit, call or email to check for availability of the facility. What This Means: When you reserve a time (1 hr min - 8hrs max a day) up to 30 people can come and you will have the facility to yourself. When you leave, to assist in keeping everyone safe, everything will be cleaned and sanitized for the next reservation. With this having to be done with COVID-19 approved cleaning solutions there will be $10 an hr for the reservation. The Museum is a nonprofit service and ran with donations. After hour parties will continue to be the same cost as usual. If you have any questions or want to place a reservation, you can call or email us. You are able to book parties for 2 ($140), 3 ($210), and 4 ($280) hr blocks at the museum. Please call for more information and view agreements in photo section.

My kids really enjoy the kids room too- kitchen area, puppets, blocks galore. A safe and fun space for kids of all ages (probably best for those under 6). Most employees very nice - one lady was getting on kids in kids area to clean up behind themselves in a strict manner. Cute gift shop for local gifts. I would love to see an upgrade to the outside of the building to be more welcoming and maybe something's done outside -- garden, bird houses, etc. For it to represent all of York County a few upgrades would be great!!

We went through the exhibit and got to see some really incredible displays. We marveled at the displays, wondering how long they took to complete, how many people worked on the display etc. It's just so amazing to see that all the displays were made out of Lego pieces. There were some interactive displays which was nice for the kids since they were unable to touch most of the displays in the exhibit. There's a section where the kids can be master builders and time themselves on how quickly they can complete a miniature display, they ranged from easy, medium and difficult. At the end of the experience there was an entire city made of Legos, with loose lego pieces for the kids to be creative and make their own lego creations. It was a great finish to the experience. This exhibit is every lego master builders dream. It brought me back to my childhood!

A small museum with a lot of history through interpretive displays. Its cool to see a place devoted to the indigenous people of the area rather than the usual Spanish and Anglo people who came later. I myself am not of indigenous decent but I appreciate learning about other cultures. History in this region doesn't begin 250 years ago but much further back. Perhaps we can learn something from those who were here for longer. The Catawba Cultural Center is a place that can help with that. Plus they have a good gift shop. I bought a few trinkets to take back to some friends. Also a basket kit for me. I can't just go home empty handed, can I?

The Carolinas are full of history, so the choices are endless. When I found out that the Catawba Indian Reservation and Cultural Center was so close and included a museum and trails I was intrigued. We piled in the car and made the 30-minute journey from Charlotte. It was a twisty and turning drive, but we made it without any challenges. However, my phone lost signal before making it, so this is one of the few times I wish I had printed a map. It was tough getting in and even more challenging getting out. The Museum and Cultural Center are nice. They have several artifacts and reproductions on display. You get a basic understanding of the tribe just by mozying through. They don't have a brochure so you only get the basics. I wish there was someone on hand to explain more since I had lots of questions, but the only staff member was manning the gift shop. The gift shop was packed full of items from a variety of native American cultures. Lots of great items to peruse. They have books and jewelry and other items for visitors of all ages. The real treat here is the trails. They criss-cross the reservation and include informational displays, plaques telling the story of the tribe, their culture, the land, and their beliefs. It was a fun trek and there was a lot to see along the way. I also learned about the Yehasuri. They are mischievous spirits who live in the trees. They play pranks on kids and animals and kill adults with darts. You don't die immediately, but within 24-hours. I wrote this review as soon as I left just in case something happens to me. I want the Yelp world to know it was the Yehasuri who did it.

Tickets can be easily purchased online for approx $15 depending on the car you choose. The bathrooms were clean and the customer service was good. Once you check in they give you a ticket, just wait outside until your party is called for seating. They did a good job at social distancing and have things in place to keep everyone 6ft apart. They do have some free train books inside, I grabbed one for my memories. The Blue Granite Express train ride was only 10 miles round trip, but it was just enough to see a few sites via train. The staff are all volunteers except the office staff. Once you get on the staff gives you all the history about the train and the sites along the way. I actually learned quite abit about Winnsboro on this adventure. Education is a valuable tool for all, especially your children! Check the website out and support them, they have themed train rides and host parties thru out the yr. Enjoy!

If you pay for an annual membership then you get to play an hour before it opens to the public. They do daily science shows as well as other events that rotate. My kids are ages 2 and 5 and we've been going for years now. Our favorite things are the water play area, train tables, fire truck, and the weather station. They also do birthday parties! Hundreds of people touching the things one right after another, visible heavy fingerprints, some of the stations had paint chipping and visible caked on dirt that looked as it had never been wiped down. There was not enough hand sanitizer stations and no sanitizing wipes. I feel they should have staff walking around sanitizing down the things that get touched over and over. I dont think I'd ever go back; unless maybe they changed out some of the illusions. Most look as if they have been there the entire time the place has been open.
