There are picnic tables, a covered pavillion, disc golf course, public restrooms, with developed parking and its dog friendly. As well, river access for kayaking, fishing and water activities. We took an afternoon drive out to the park and it is definitely worth the effort and time. Legend has it, that Daniel Boone as a boy and his family first used the cave in one manner or another around 1751. There are numerous developed trails with a trailhead at the top. The walk down to the cave is pretty serious, its built wooden steps but its a serious climb down and even more so up. This is the only drawback to visiting the cave. If you are not prepared to climb back up, I didn't count them but its a couple hundred steps easily. Its an impressive build, but it is a serious climb coming back up. 4 Stars a cool historical park and worth a visit 01166

Everything is spread out enough that even on a busy day, it probably doesn't feel crowded and the restrooms are easy to find and well placed for families bouncing between fields and picnic areas. Driving through, you'll hit a series of speed bumps that definitely keep you moving slow, but honestly that's a good thing with all the kids and teams running around. It's the kind of park where you could spend an entire afternoon without running out of things to do, whether you're here for a game, a cookout, or just a long walk under the trees. Camping hours locks you in after closing with private access should you need to exit. Ranger is a friendly bloke that was so helpful. Peaceful, full hookups and onsite black tank disposal. Note, it's a public park - so you're not going to have control over whom your neighbours are, but we got lucky and the possible problem guests were leaving as we arrived (yay!).

There's also a carousel, a barnyard to pet farm animals, an aquarium/exhibit with live animals inside of it in the nature center, a splash pad, mini golf, trails for walking, and some wildlife habitats outside that have wild animals as well. We didn't get to do the train, as it was closed; but there was still so much to enjoy at the park. Me and my bestie brought our kids and they had a blast! We spent a solid 2-3 hrs there and had a great time. It's also very inexpensive!! Some things that I will say is that the bathrooms are not very clean and don't even work but it's an old place, so that's to be expected and we're not there to use the restroom, we're there to play! Bring cash for extra things, like carousel, barnyard, animal exhibits, etc...sometimes their card reader doesn't work and they can only accept cash. There's even a cute place to shop where you purchase tickets for everything with toys and snacks inside! All in all, we had a great time! Keep in mind this place is old, but it definitely still has charm, and stands out against the other parks around. The animal exhibits, including the barnyard petting activity is a hit or miss, because this place is not a zoo. The animals have plenty of room to hide and/or roam to get space, which is a great thing!!! But some people might be upset after paying and not really being able to see the animals. Found this hidden gem very close to Winston-Salem downtown and loved every but of it!…read more We headed there on a chilly Sunday morning (would have been nicer ifnit was a bit warmer though) and were very impressed with what this place had to offer. They had ample amount of parking space, from there it was a short walk to the kids play area, the giant man made cliff at the edge of the quarry and what seemed to be vast hiking trails. The kids park was supposed to be closed for renovations, but people were enjoying it nonetheless with the sign thrown to the side. The cliff was really nice too, you get a glimpse of the downtown skyline, the clean water filled in the quarry alongwith the giant flower (curious to know the purpose of that)! We walked around a bit and it was great place to fly a drone as well if you have it. Its a great place spend your weekend morning or evening and hangout.

This is a nice park to take kids to for something to do. They had signs saying you shouldn't enter the water in certain places, but people seemed to ignore those. Lots of laughs and splashing heard as we walked around. :) They have several restrooms which were pretty clean for the most part also, which was a good thing. Parking is plentiful, but how close you can park depends on how crowded it is. We were initially directed to an overflow lot but just as we got out of the car, some spaces opened up in the main lot so we were able to move. I believe you can also get on a chartered boat here to go on Lake Norman. Nice place, we will return.
