Some years ago I struggled to get my car there as it had neither first or second gear... Getting thru the lights at the top of the hill on a green was major luck. Had a friend pick me up, and before I was home John called to tell me my car was ready for pick up... I was imagining major transmission repair... "There was a loose nut." Requested an oil change and tire rotation nothin more nothing less. When I read the bill they charged me for washer fluid. I checked the fluid and it was a third empty. When I called the owner and accused him of a money grab he stated he looked at window washer fluid and it looked full. He was lying. I told him he lost my business. Have a nice day. read more

Took car in to get a slow puncture fixed. $25 later I asked how long does it last - answer "forever". Next day noticed tire had lost 2 psi. After several days it had lost 7 psi so I took it back. This 7 year old car had never had a puncture of any sort - very low mileage. They said they found "another" puncture - $15. Odds of getting 2 punctures in 4 days - maybe 100 million to 1? Best of all - it still had a slow puncture. So in the end I took it to a well known tire shop. They removed the tire and examined it - conclusion it isn't repairable because the original fix was done incorrectly and it cannot be replugged. So a new tire needed. I will not be going back - ever!! read more

John is an honest mechanic that is fair priced and good at what he does. In this day Main St service is one in a dying breed. John didn't charge me for a misdiagnosed issue that he ordered a part for because it's "just not good business and I can't take money for a job I didn't complete." I've been coming here since 2011. I trust John. When the dealer said my whole car needs replacing John tells me the issue their reporting is common and the vehicle has lots of life left. When we had to make a big fix or trade-in decision with our cars he looked them over and gave us a professional opinion about their fitness, which again helped us save money. I sort of laugh when I see bad reviews complaining the place is expensive. The way I look at it, having a mechanic I can trust is priceless. read more

I don't understand the negative reviews here. Nor those about customer service. I've worked with John several times on multiple cars and always found him courteous, more than happy to discuss the options to fix my car (or not fix it). I've brought him two different Mercedes which cost a fortune to repair at the dealer. He got the AC working properly on one car and did front axles on the other. read more

The work is done well by the people fixing your car, but the guy who runs it, is ready to rip you off for a random price if you're a new customer. I went in to get my Honda's headlight bulb replaced and tire pressure checked, and the guy charged me $20. When I asked him the bulb's price, he said, "Ummm... I think it costs about $12". Well mister, if you aren't sure how much the bulb costs, how did you come up with a magic figure of $20? Oh, by the way, the bulb usually costs around 7 to 8 bucks. So, I am guessing he might have charged me the remaining amount for labor charges and tire pressure checking. I would still like to give an unrated "4 stars" for the work done, but not for the random charges. read more

Came in at lunch to make an appointment for noon (my work lunch hour) for a tire rotation. Answer?: "We dont work noon-1pm we take lunch then." If a customer of mine comes in, I move heaven and earth to service them. No so at Main Street Service Center. I wouldnt use them if my car broke down in front of their building. Went in for a simple inspection and owner and or manager came out raving like a lunatic saying "I am not going to let you use my bay to fix your car!". This happened after I asked the person if I could check the break switch and getting his approval. Beyond rude, just plain unacceptable behavior from another human being... let alone a service provider. Beware. read more

I am specifically writing this review of Main street auto repair in Hopkinton. The one on main street as you enter into the center of town. 2 key takeaways: Absolutely the worst customer service and completely inflated pricing. I brought my car in recently for a simple fix and then got a call a couple of hours later that it was done. I showed up expecting to get my car and the male in the front room debated with me that he had not called me. He is seriously the most rude individual in the world. How is this place still in business. When checking with his mechanic he confirmed that the car actually was done after telling me that he never would have called me. They charged me an extra 100 bucks beyond what other shops in the area have charged (front wheel bearing). Please- stay far away from this place. Do not support a business like this. read more

I was online to get the phone number for Main Street Service and saw the other reviews listed. I cannot disagree more strongly with my experiences at this shop. The HIGHEST integrity, honesty, and quality of service is what I've received for about the last 15 years...through several cars...once my car is out of dealer warrantee, I go right here...Esp. if you have an older more expensive European car, John and his staff are EXCELLENT and far more reasonable than doing work at the dealer. read more

The shop has been maintaining our fleet of vehicles for 15 years. Prices are much more reasonable than dealers and we've never had any significant problems. The work needed is always communicated in advance and finished on time. Customer service is extremely consistent. Any issues we have had, such as a leak in a mounted tire, have been addressed no charge, as well as not charging if a diagnostic doesn't reveal a specific root cause condition (one time failure to start). Vehicles serviced include volvo wagon, 3 nissans, vw jetta, jeep GC. They are also competitive with tires and got us some hard to get tires like Nokian. read more

My husband and I have been bringing our cars to Joe and John for over 10 years. They have taken excellent care of us and their prices are fair. They have gone as far as driving to my house to jump a dead battery and have come pick up my daughters car while I was at work etc. They are a local business that we will continue to use! My husband and I have used Main Street Service for over 10 years now and have never had a bad experience...in fact every one has been excellent. The mechanics are knowledgeable and quick to repair your vehicles. There have been a few occasions where something was pointed out to me as an urgent "issue" at the dealership only to have John look at the car and tell me there wasn't anything unsafe or needing an urgent repair with my car. He has always been honest, very fair, and pleasant to us. I've never had a bad experience...and my 20 year old BMW is still running beautifully because of John and his staff. read more

I think the previous negative reviews are confusing the other "Garage on Main Street". I have been going to this Main Street Garage for 4+ years, John and his crew have always been very nice and trust worthy. Don't make the mistake of going somewhere else. Save yourself the trouble! I only say this because I needed an inspection this past Saturday and this shop is closed. I didn't wait and regret doing so, got a huge run around from the "other shop" on Main Street to say the least. John and Joey were sympathetic today when I explained to them my issue and offered to find the problem free of charge, but the wife and I are going to donate the car of 14 years and be done with it. Someone told me yesterday, "mechanics are like your doctors, you find one you like, then you stick with them." So 5 stars for Main Street Garage for there kindness and good work they do. Thank you! My experience has been very good with Main Street Auto. John has always been fair with me. I brought my old beater in for what I thought was a bad power steering pump. I was expecting to spend at least $300, and John knew that. It ended up being just the belt. I paid for a half hour labor, and a belt. He could have replaced the pump and billed me for it, but he did the honest thing. As to the previous review about the headlight bulb, $20 isn't a bad price to replace it. The bulbs can be anywhere from $5 to $25 each depending on whether they're the standard halogens or the more expensive "brighter" halogens. So let's say the bulb costs $10. Adding $10 to put it in isn't bad... Some cars it takes 30 seconds. Some are much more difficult. I have had several things done at Main Street, ranging from little things to major things (cracked cylinder head). I feel that I got a fair deal, and they did a good job sourcing the parts for the best deal. Main Street Auto is head and shoulders above another large shop in town... Maybe I'll go post a review there, too... read more

I went there for an inspection sticker on the 2nd last day of the month. I had to replace one of the windshield wipers to pass the inspection but it was installed correctly and I was charged a fair price. Overall no lineups and the service was quick. Thumbs up. read more

I'm a resident of Hopkinton and I've told myself many times that I will not go back here. They over charge for shoddy work and you will find yourself taking your "fixed" vehicle somewhere else to get the work done. There was a time were I went to them to get a quote, then went down the street to another place to get theirs. Main street auto said it would cost me over $1400 and would take around 2 or 3 days to finish. When I went to the place down the street they said it would cost me $70 and it would take 6 hours. So I went with them obviously and they did a great job, haven't had to pay attention to that part of my car since. Recently I went to Main street auto for something else (Big mistake) and I had a head lamp that was glued in. This glue was astonishingly strong by the way. Regardless, I wasn't planning on getting that bit fixed while I was there, but they decided to cut through the glue, ripped my head lamp out, then tried to tell me that it fell out when they pulled it in... I don't think so guys. Based on that I'll let you be the judge, but you will never catch me going there again. read more

Awful awful awful. I was hesitant to use them because of their poor reputation but had my car towed there out of convenience. They replaced my alternator and when I drove out of the parking lot my engine light was on-which I had never seen before. Shortly after that I had my yearly inspection at the dealer. They told me whoever replaced the alternator badly damaged a wire during the install. I called the owner and he was very confrontational and unprofessional. I dropped the car off again and when I picked it up the second time around he just gave me the keys without any explanation. When I asked him what they did he basically threw the paperwork at me and said "It's all right there" Surly argumentative and downright rude-STAY AWAY!!! read more

This might have been the worst experience I have had with a repair shop. The staff is rude and we're late on returning my car leading to me having to get a rental for two weeks. After taking my car in it had more problems than it did beforehand. Would not recommend, they are trying to swindle people out of their money. read more

Biggest ripoffs!!!!!!! Never ever go to this place. I went to get an inspection done 2 days back and I see my brakes are not working. I've seen similar reviews on Google where while doing inspection they damage the car and then charge you to fix it. The owner John is very mean and nasty. Stay away!!!!!! These guys saved me just before my trip to NH! I got a flat tire and was back on the road in 20 minutes even with very short notice.

This could quite possibly be the worst service station in the USA. I stopped in for an inspection the other day. It was clear from the time that I pulled the car in they were slow and it was about getting work. They screwed up with the brakes while pretending to lift the car up! In the past I have had work done there to find out it was something else wrong with the car. I knew when I was getting the inspection I shouldn't do it here. I was proven right about 30 seconds into the inspection. I will never spend a dime and although passionate about small local businesses, I hope these scumbags go out of business. I will tell everyone on Facebook/Twitter, in the area to stay away from the Main Street Service Station. I wouldn't even use there restroom for free. read more

Awful. Went in to have a front halogen bulb replaced. After 6 hours working on it, I went to pick it up and I saw 3 guys under the hood. They claimed there was something wrong. I said don't bother and brought it to the dealer. $1000 later, I was asked , "who was working on this?" Who ever it was, shorted your lighting system computer." Both headlights needed to be replaced because they blew the system. In addition to the bulbs, the computer network needed to be replaced. Total incompetence and rude to boot. Stay away! read more
