They knew a lot about the items in the store and anything they were unsure of they found more information for me. The building itself is beautifully designed and a staple of Freeport history. My only concern was that my older mother had a difficult time getting up the large concrete stairs because there's no handicap-friendly entrance. However, our experience inside Abacus was wonderful. We will be back closer to Christmas time to stock up for Christmas!

I've bought many unique trinkets over the years, and I always find something special to bring home. Many items are very high-quality, therefore very expensive. I feel like every time I visit, I find something new. The employees I've encountered seem so calm and welcoming: I haven't felt any pressure to hurry up (and ooooh do I like to linger!), or move on, or even buy anything. I've overheard them being helpful and kind to people with questions. It seems the store is stocked with products from small, local artisans; what's not to love about that?! I bought two pieces - one a mug from Mary K Spencer's garden series. I have a lot of pottery from all over the US and I've never seen a design like this. I also loved the whimsy of Becky Wright's soap sponge holder. The colors are so much fun. But those were just two of the lovely pieces in this shop. They also are reasonable. There are a lot of touristy shops here. It's nice to find work from Maine artists.
