It's super small with zero things to do in the area. The seasonal people look at you like you have 10 heads are camping in their camp.

This past weekend, our church group booked 9 campsites to stay in Glenholme's "Hidden Hilltop"…read moreFamily Campground. At first sight, you can see it's equipt for family entertainment. Nice buildings, open space, and lots of activities for kids (such as mini golf, an outdoor pool, a slip-and-slide, badminton, volleyball, tractor ride, playground, and a barn yard with a few sheeps, a rabbit, and a donkey). Campsites with and without service were between $25-35, Firewood was $6, Ice was $2.25, and there were various treats and about a dozen flavours of ice cream to choose from ($2-3 scoops). All in all it looked good, but it was the personality of one of the owners (Jim Yorke) which really spoiled our stay. For instance, when we asked for ice we were told they were "sold out" yet 10 minutes later, as I was walking back, I saw the owner delivering bags of ice to one of their "seasonal" campers (in other words, there wasn't any ice for us "non-seasonal" campers). Then, we asked 2 good friends from Debert to come and join us for an hour by our campfire, and they were met by the owner who said they had to pay to visit. Since they came with no money on hand, and were only staying an hour, they tried to explain, but the own snarled back with a demeaning tone and said "that'd your problem, have a nice day." What a way to treat the locals, eh? Gee, and with that...you get the picture. they were not accomodating, or even polite. Aside from the personalities....I had 2 more recommendations to improve upon their camping experience for others in the cuture: - They need to clean their bathrooms, and maintain them! All weekend the first stall in the womens bathroom had a broken lock, and the second stall (of 3) never held toilet paper. The showers and the toilets were located in 2 seperate buildings....terribly inconvenient, and 2 out of my 3 showers (taken at night) were with ice cold water. - An "ADULT SWIM" needs to take place for an hour in the late afternoon or evening. The pool never emptied, and there was a continuous steam of 3 or 4 doxen kids at all times. I don't mind swimming with children, but when they continuously jump and splash, it takes all the relaxation out of the swim. Biggest complaint: BE KIND TO YOUR OCCASSIONAL CAMPERS. As occassionals (and not one of their regular "seasonal" campers) we were made to feel second rate, and we are not eagre to come back anytime soon. Back to Scotia Pine we'll go!

They have tons of activities planned for the kids and adults with themed weekends like Christmas Easter and Halloween. The fireworks on July 1st are always spectacular for a campground. The canteen has everything you need and if you forget something you can always head 5 mins down the road to the mast own market. The only reason I have given this a 4 instead of the 5 is because the wifi is non existent even thought they advertise that there is free wifi. Get what you pay for right?! In any event who needs internet because there is so much to do outside and in the rec hall.

We have camped at Porter's Lake several times, both in the RV sites and in the unserviced sites. The campground is located on a peninsula and an island, which is accessed by a bridge. This is a family campground, meaning there has never been any rowdy behaviour during our stays. There is a playground as well as a small beach. The park also has day-use picnic areas and a boat launch. There are water taps throughout the campground, and a comfort station with free showers, sinks, and flush toilets. The campground does not have wifi, but you can use the park's wifi at the ranger station. Each site has a picnic table and a campfire box. The 10 RV sites are set in two rows in an open area next to the lake. They are angled so each one has a view of the lake. Each site is about 50x50', grassy with level gravel pads, and has 2-way hook ups. There are some shrubs and small trees here and there, but not close enough to the pads or roads in the RV area to hit your vehicle. There is a dump station at the campground entry point. The unserviced sites are in two areas. One on a small hill on the peninsula, and the other on the island. A lot of the sites on the peninsula are good for RVs as well as tents. There are 38 sites here. Most are large. The sites are pretty open, so some have nice views, but there are a lot of small trees surrounding the sites, and, since many are staggered up the hillside, you still have a sense of privacy. There are also a few walk-in sites. The comfort station is at the top of the hill. The island's 32 sites are smaller, so more suited to tents. There are also some walk-in sites that are very private and border directly on the lake. Pretty nice to wake up to the sound of waves lapping on the water's edge. The online reservation system has pictures of each site, to help you pick one best suited to you.

The park is a great size, with lots of places to set up camp, not to mention loads of areas to slip off of the shore and into the water. You can bring canoes and kayaks and enjoy some paddling, or else participate in land fun with bikes and balls, nets and rackets. The park changed quite a bit during hurricane Juan and now boasts more spacious sites, with new areas for RV access. There are no electrical hookups around the regular pitch areas, but if you have an RV you can get on the grid. There are toilets and showers available, as well as outhouses and taps sprinkled throughout the park. This is a great location for a city getaway. It only takes about 20/25 minutes to drive to the park from Halifax, but once you're there you'll feel miles away from town with the natural world warmly surrounding you. Make a reservation and head there in the summer - this is a lovely park that all should take advantage of!

It was an easy back in and we leveled up quick and this is a very private site only because it's at the end of the row and you're looking out over the water. It's very quiet here which we really liked and our side is also not far from the laundry And bathrooms, but not too close that's annoying. We found the Wi-Fi was excellent and we really didn't have any problems with it at all. The staff in the office were great and told us exactly where our site was and gave us a map. From our site you can be walking straight out onto The view of Fundy and it is stunning. There are paths that take you to Hopewell that take an hour to walk or you can just do the quick jaunt around the local ponds on a walk. Hopewell is less than 10 minutes by car. I highly recommend this place. It's not expensive. It's a simple campground with a small pool, but it's very quiet and close to local towns.

The campground roads are gravel, packed dirt and campsites are either gravel or grass. Some sites are shaded while most are open. Campground has their own small lake for fishing or boating for kayaking or canoeing. RV sites are full hook up (W/S/E), tent sites are dry camping. We arrived during "low season" and we given a site overlooking the marsh and Chocolate River. We asked if it was a back in or pull in, woman at desk admitted she was new and didn't know. We were not offered an escort to our site. When we got there, the site was a pull-in and not to our liking. There were 9 or 10 other RVers in the immediate area, several with dogs off leash (we are dog people, but when they say, dogs on lead, we obey). We went back towards the office and saw the pull-thru sites were empty so we pulled in to one and walked to the office to see if we could take that site instead. Same price so no problem swapping. So glad we did because when we went for a walk that evening, there was all sorts of noise from the other section of the campground they wanted to put us in first (noise = loud talking + radios + barking dogs + kids playing). We only stayed 1 night as this was a halfway point on our planned travels. We wanted to see Hopewell Rocks at high & low tides and accomplished that. Restrooms are clean, 4 showers are accessed by individual doors at other end of building so anyone can use it. Laundry room in in central portion of the restroom building. They offer rustic bathrooms in the tenting area (out-houses). We stayed here in a fifth wheel and would return again if our travels brought us this way.

The people here are very nice, I really wish I could give it more stars!!…read more The lots are grass, with bits of gravel, no trees to speak of, each site does appear to have a picnic table. We use 30 amp - that connection was positioned at 45 degrees, so hubby had to try up ours because we use a "Progressive" brand system management box and it's weight was to heavy to hold at that angle ( not all were set up with that power station, but many were). My biggest issue was with their WiFi, if you went to their library (a small building in the middle of the park), you could use free WiFi. If you wanted to use it on site, there was a $2 fee - per device. When I checked in I asked about the WiFi- the very sweet gal at the sign in desk said not to worry, she was putting us so near the library that we could use the free connection ( maybe she meant we were close enough that going to the little building wouldn't be too far, I took it for we would have WiFi in our RV). Well the WiFi signal from the library, which we were very close too, stunk!! We couldn't open a single webpage! So, since we both like to be "connected" my hubby went and paid an extra $4 so that we both had Internet access. The signal strength was very impressive - too bad that it was no better than the weak library signal we had tried unsuccessfully before!! Ugh!! Just say you don't offer WiFi!! I would not be so frustrated!! And, if you are going to charge for something that must campgrounds give away - you better make sure it works!! (No, we didn't ask for our money back - as Americans traveling in a foreign Country, we didn't want to caused bad feelings. Maybe we should have, but we were very frustrated and decided to let it go.) As for the good, great, clean showers and laundry facilities- very well thought out!! And, the little library, has lots of "take one, leave one" books. Comfy chairs and a desk. As I said, I wish I could give them a better review!! But if you don't need or want to be as connected as we like to be, and you don't mind treeless lots - go for it!! The people are great!!

The park is alongside a small river, where we even viewed a bald eagle during our stay. Perfect to sit back and enjoy a cup of coffee, or skip rocks while enjoying the view.
