I did both the rafting trip here, and then stayed overnight in one of the cottages. The rating is a combo of those two pieces.
Rafting - 5 Stars. I did the 4 hour rafting trip, and it was guided by Kim and Erin. Kim was SUPER knowledgeable and more than easily answered all of our questions, and was fantastic. The trip was so much fun, and all of us in the raft were laughing the entire time. It definitely got way too cold by the end, so we didn't make it the full four hours, but it was a great time. I would absolutely do this again. The only downer was that it was so cold, and we were promised hot showers and hot chocolate afterwards. The outdoor showers were luke warm at best, and there was no hot chocolate in sight. Tip for the adventure - bring dark clothes and you won't have to worry about wrecking them, and bring a towel. If you can't, you can rent one for $5.
Cottage - 3 Stars. My plane landed early at the airport, and I was exhausted, so decided to drive to the location and see if I could just check in early. The place is out in the middle of nowhere, (make sure to stop for groceries on your way in because there is no food on site) so it takes awhile to get there. Upon arrival, I went into the office and no one was there. I found a sign saying to call a phone number with any questions, but when I did, no one answered. I decided to sit outside for a bit thinking someone would have to show up soon (surely no one would leave a whole building unattended). Finally one of the cleaning ladies showed up and I asked her about checking in, and she said I could just go to one of the cabins, because they were open. So, I did, and went in to take a nap. The cabin was really nice, and there's a full kitchen, and bbq on site to use.
When it was getting close to check in time for the rafting, I took a chance going to the office. Finally someone was there, and he took the remainder of my payment. I got back to my cabin and noticed I was charged $15 for an early check in! I mean, I understand I was there a couple of hours early, but this was never explained to me, and since I essentially checked myself in, not cool.
After rafting, and the luke warm shower, I was super excited to get back to the cabin to shower, and there was no hot water. And of course there was no one in the front office to answer the phone. As such, I couldn't shower, and was freezing the whole night. The next day when checking out, the guy was really nice, but told me I should have checked the breaker (never in a million years would I have thought to do that) or called the after hours number. I explained that there was only an emergency number, and no hot water wasn't really an emergency.
As such, while I would definitely raft here again, I highly doubt I'll stay here again. read more
